it is so very exasperating to not have a clue why morgan tuck played only 4+ minutes last night. and hardly anyone else seems to care much. she played so very well in the triple overtime game, and when she entered last night went straight to the hoop for 2 and 1. i'd say especially with the foul problems last night it's perplexing, but , no, it's more perplexing given her improved play. what the hell is going on?? i'm one of those fans that feels that fans deserve to have some info about these things. doesn't seem like many others here feel the same way. this girl makes an impact everytime she steps on the floor. what the hell is going on??

Probably because most of us really do trust Geno and staff that there is a legitimate reason and not one that we need to know.

it's fine if you don't feel a need to know, but be careful of your use of "we".

Reread it. I said most of us and that was the referent for we, not all. I know you do, yes. there are some more than a few but far less than a majority who do not understand it is none of their business.

I doubt anyone on the board wasn't thinking of Morgan last night...check the game thread...that said, I trust Geno's judgement and that of his staff, and appreciate their long-term view...

DESERVE???? You honestly think you deserve to know? On what basis?
I don't think any of us is necessarily entitled to any info.

Absolutely agree. There is no "deserve."

No one is entitled to any info, but I think many people who are interested enough in the team to read a discussion board would like to know and maybe discuss it. Once again, I'm left scratching my head at the reason for attacking people who post legitimate, interesting questions.

My speculation is that it's just a numbers issue. Stewart and Kiah are playing (and probably practicing) well and got first crack at minutes in the post. If it was a performance issue or anything else concerning, I wouldn't see Geno putting her in for KML after the fourth foul at a key point of the game. I thought Morgan played well last night when she was in.

Pretty clear that the Morgan mystery HAS been noticed and voiced by several (I have no idea what number would constitute a majority.....maybe if enough people blew a little more smoke, we'd get a clue on that). EVen addressed within other threads if you check around, and with regard to not only MOrgan.

Re the sfuff about "deserve" and "trust" and such: in this corner, I agree that alot of what people feel is "deserved" in this country is far from deserved. But, in this case, my hunch is we're just getting a bit hung up on the use of the term "deserve", and quibbling, perhaps due to understandable post game frustrations.

On "trust," disagreement seems to emerge so often on here between those who have respect and admiration for the coaching staff and want them and the team to do "really, really well", but who feel very comfortable pointing out perceived shortcomings on a sports talk board (of all places), on the one hand; and, on the other hand, those who feel that any hint of "Hey, I really, really wonder about THAT move" (on a sports board of all places) is a sign of some sort of impurity or worse.

Maybe we could put a bit more energy into trusting each other and allowing a bit more graciously for individual differences of opinion in the world of sports, without resorting to labeling and name calling. Just a thought.

morgan played 34 minutes, obviously because of foul problems, in the 3ot game, and had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. that was a very difficult situation for a freshman to be thrown into, but she certainly responded well. since then she has played 11 minutes, 3 minutes, and 4 minutes. in those 11 minutes against depaul she had 9 points and a bunch of rebounds. i find those minutes strangely lacking, and the lack of interest here in why so few minutes even stranger. coaches routinely respond to inquiries regarding players , so apparently somebody thinks that interested people are entitled to know. the bookies would certainly like to know. what's the big deal? oh yeh, the big deal is geno's reaction to questions about such things. so uconn's beat reporters stay away from it.

the main response here has been trust the coaches and/or no one deserves info anyway. putting those aside for a moment: considering how effective morgan has been when she has had some minutes, especially against nd last week, aren't a few people surprised by her lack of minutes last night? a simple yes or no would be sufficient, and enlightening.

I AGREE WITH ORIGINAL POSTER, AND TOTALLY CANT BELIEVE SOME OF THE RESPONSES.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY SHE PLAYED 4 MINUTES ONLY, WHY SHE EVEN PLAYED SPARSELY AGAINST DEPAUL AND SYRACUSE.
IF ITS INJURY RELATED DUH ID LIKE TO FREAKING KNOW.
SOME OF THE POSTS ON HERE IN OTHER THREADS ARE SO ABOVE AND BEYOND RIDICULOUS, BUT I READ THIS ONE AND PEOPLE ARE THROWING A FIT AT A QUESTION RE: A PLAYER IN WHICH A FAN CARES TO KNOW MORE ABOUT.

MORGAN HAS DEFINITELY TURNED INTO A FAVORITE OF MINE THIS YEAR AND SEEING HER PLAY SO WELL AND SO MANY MINUTES AT NOTRE DAME AND AGAINST BAYLOR, YES I WONDER WHY LAST NIGHT AND THE OTHER B.E.T. GAMES SHE PLAYED SO LITTLE.....

I agree on this issue as well - however I feel that the 'middle ground' of this board is shrinking and things are becoming more polarized, much as is happening elsewhere (and not for the better).

In a sense your points make the very point against you. If Morgan was as dominating as you suggest Geno would have to be silly, foolish, stupid not to use her. As such it should be clear that there is something specifically in play that is preventing that from happening otherwise Geno would be doing using her as you suggest. Why do I say that: because the last thing Geno is is silly, foolish or stupid.

IMHO, it wasn't even an option. You have Stewart making a difference. You have Dolson without a single foul. He's seen that three bigs will help rebounding, but not significantly. The 3 big line-up got somewhat exploited on the other end. Do you take Stewart or Dolson out of the game? If Stewart was having difficulty or Dolson in foul trouble Tuck plays. The Dolson/Stewart combo played 37 and 39 mins. I think Stokes justified her play time. It wasn't a case of being down on Tuck or forgetting about her.

Exactly my point in asking whose minutes would she have taken? It's a zero-sum game and someone else's minutes would have to have been reduced. I suppose, in hindsight, you could argue that you cut KML's but during the game? That seems a very unlikely choice to make.

Morgan could have given KML some more minutes off, especially when it was clear that KML was not going to get any 3-point shots against that defense. But perhaps Geno was concerned that by the second half, UConn's inside game was working well, in part because ND was so focused on taking KML's 3-pointer away. If Morgan had come in, they might have collapsed on Stef and Stewie, and what had been working would cease to work.

On the other hand, it's not beyond imagination that Morgan might have been given 3-point shots and might have actually made them, which could have turned the game around. But it's hard for a coach to bet on that when he has an offensive pattern in the second half that is working. Remember that UConn won the second half by 7 points.

Be very, very careful. A person who's obviously not a fan (because a fan isn't allowed an opinion) questioning a player's minutes might get kneecapped.

UMMMMM YOU PLAY HER WHEN KML HAD FOUL TROUBLE, YOU PLAY HER WHEN BRIA HAD FOUL TROUBLE. CLEARLY YOU CAN PLAY DOLSON, TUCK AND STEWART AT THE 5, 4 AND 3 RESPECTIVELY.

AINT LIKE ANYONE WAS PLAYING GREAT IN THE FIRST HALF AND DIDNT DESERVE TO BE SUBBED OUT, TUCK DIDNT GET IN TIL MID-LATE 2ND HALF.

GEEZ, IF YOU HATE HER JUST ADMIT IT

Nope, I like her quite a lot. I just wanted your opinion. An exchange of ideas.

Oh, please, please turn off your caps lock. Please.

It seems like you asked a few times, whose minutes she could have taken.
There was no need for KML nor Stewie to play virtually the entire game.
Even Skylar noticed that the team was winded at the end.
She could have given Dolson a breather as well.
What is irking some posters (including myself)
Is that she seemed to be playing...really, really well
If a player is playing well, you can always find ways to use them.
Geez, wasn't she starting a few games ago?
I'm going to go back and have a look.
And if you ask me to...just trust them.
I just roll my eyes.
Sorry, the way I was brought up, can't help it.
Doesn't make us bad folks or even bad posters.
The world needs some skeptics.
