Florida Post Game Thread

Not something Geno's teams have been particularly good at, either, though it rarely matters. You can go back to some of their lesser teams in the early 2000s, but 2 years ago, that was one of the things that did them in against Ohio State in the sweet 16,
I remember JC's conga line setups before the inbound and where you never knew which they would break. Don't see that by any team anymore. It seemed very effective and embarrassingly easy to the detriment of defenders.

The offset was the perimeter depth and of course the motion offensive sets. Lee was absolutely gassed chasing Ball all game..as evident by the jersey pulling. There weren’t many bad shots through the course of the game for UConn.
That doesn’t always show on tv, unless the announcers mention it.

Seems to be a pattern with Todd G. His team is 5-4.. Problem with the refs when he loses. Man in the mirror time?

Too early for that kind of stress. Need Mullins to stay on the floor.
He is a very big key to this team. Also, do not underestimate Reed's presence out there last night. Florida is huge at 6'11", 6'10", and 6"9" in the front court.

I watched the game without sound. It looked like a great game between two good teams with a lot of back and forth runs, but I was perplexed by a lot of the foul calls and non calls. I don’t think it was biased in any way I just thought there were a lot of offensive fouls that didn’t need to be called, and a lot of hacks on drives that were not called. There were many times when play stopped and I am like what happened? it was a physical game with lots of contact, but anytime Mullins or Boogie Flam made contact it was a foul. Seemed like Reed and Condon also played under a stricter set of rules than everyone else. I will give it another wah with sound, but seemed like very inconsistent refs.
I thought Condon got away with a lot of grabs, as did lee and there were always hands on our guys with few calls against Florida. The refs seemed to be indicating it's OK to grab the opponent's arm and impede his movements as he's moving with or without the ball.
The biggest joke was Fland with both arms around Demary as he was about to receive an inbounds pass and Fland pulls Demary away from the flight of the ball and he and that whining weasel coach were bit*hing about the foul call on Fland.
Friends in Florida have in the past politely called Dan Hurley a jerk but not in those words. That was from when UConn was getting no respect before the two titles so I plan to ask their excuse for their coach stomping around and F-bombing like a spoiled brat.

in the first half UF was defending reed with chinyelu straight up and reed was cooking. in the second half they started doubling reed w/ another big. condon came from behind and blocked reed's shot at least 2-3x. reed needs to learn to find the open shooter out of a double team like sanogo and clingan did so well. maybe the final step in his evolution as an unstoppable post presence.
Yes, he’s as much of a black hole as Freshman Sanogo. You’d think as a senior he’d be better at recognizing that and kicking it out. But I don’t think he’s been an offensive focal point before, so it’s something to work on.

It’s the right thing to do playing Alex 35+ minutes per game because we are a much better team with him out on the floor and he is showing no signs of fatigue. Sorry, but giving some of his minutes to Stewart/Ross or anyone else is ridiculous. We are 9-1 against high level competition and Alex is shooting .505/.435/.842 with a 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

Play him as much as possible and enjoy him this season because there will be a major void next year when he’s gone.
Stirtz at Iowa is still playing 40 minutes a game
even in garbage time
same as last year at Drake
some guys just don't want to come out

Yeah there were at least a few posters questioning how he'd translate to a top conference
No idea how you could watch him at all last year and not think he’d be a total stud at any level.

Florida had 16 offensive rebounds, to UConn's 7, but only 6 second chance points. I thought that was an interesting stat. So they really didn't take advantage of their huge rebounding edge. Florida had 24 defensive rebounds to UConn's 21.
We were defending our arses off!

Sanogo didn’t start doing this until late junior year. Let’s have some grace with Reed. Hes not anywhere near as bad as Sanogo was with this.

Reed isn't up to game speed yet, I'd be stunned if he was. I have no doubts he will be soon.

Sometimes I wonder if people here actually watch the game.

1. Huge game by Reid, especially if he'd not 100%. It was 3 vs. 1 on the backboard. We will need to improve rebounding though Florida is a beast on the offense glass. Not likely to see a better rebounding team this year. Reibe is a factor. He is just what we need to manage Reid's overuse and fouls.

2. Speaking of fouls, the refs swallowed the whistle in the 2nd half (good) but we need to stay out of early foul trouble. It forces Hurley’s hand on the rotations and matchups.

3. Speaking of Hurley, great job on containing Lee in the 2nd half. I can't remember seeing a faster guy with the ball. Without him we cruise. Also, good job allowing Mullins to get something positive from the game even after he forced his first couple shots. He was able to find his way at the end. Still needs time.

4. Speaking of Mullins, dude can't guard a chair. Gators were blowing by him like he wasn't even off the bus. That needs to improve a lot by March or other good teams are going to target him. Though 3 of 4 games coming at the Boston Garden, Allen Fieldhouse and MSG vs top 10 teams, the kid is fearless and isn't bothered by the big stage. Can't teach that.

5. Huge game by Smith, don't win without him in the 2nd half. Silas had an excellent game on defense, the fantasy players aren't giving him his due.

Foot on the gas for Texas. Win that one and roll the Big East, which this team should and lock up a 1 seed.

This team will get better which is exciting to think about.
So Kansas he didn't GUARD?

Its how we guard the BS, which is AWFUL. SETS EVERYONE FOR A FOUL.

Sanogo didn’t start doing this until late junior year. Let’s have some grace with Reed. Hes not anywhere near as bad as Sanogo was with this.

Sanogo figured it out once we put Jackson on the baseline. He hit Andre cutting from the opposite side a bunch of times. But he never really learned to find shooters kicking out from the post.

Thinking alot of Reeds progress/improvement was diminished by the length of time he has been unable to practice and play. I bet it will take a good 3-4 weeks to get his conditioning as well as game sharpness and rhythm back.
Watch out then!!

Stewart obviously has the better offensive skillset and with his improved D should play more. He also made a couple nice passes to feed Reed in the first half. Problem with Stew is that sometimes just sits at the 3 point line after setting screens and does not make cuts or go to the basket. We need more aggressiveness from him. Ross seems to handle the ball more and is more active when he is in. Problem is Ross is not a good offensive player but he tries. Though I will say Ross's outside 3 when wide open is better this year than last. Stew should have gotten more minutes as he played great D on Hough in the first half and played good on offense even though he needs to be more agressive.
I couldn’t agree more with Stewart just standing at 3. I point out to my son who is Stewart’s biggest fan.
