Tarris grinded out a gritty performance. vs a tough/energetic/physical front court.. Even at 75% he's a load. Good to see him bangin' on the boards and D. Looks like he's trending towards 100% as we exit our OOC schedule.

Florida's front court is/was formidable-A great test for our Bigs. Elite Eight/FF level competition.
How tall is Chinyelu(sp?) My god he is a beast! Someone commented in the chat about Reibe, "he'll learn" There ain't no learning, those guys were all beastly and athletic upfront. Reibe is going to have to be a man to physically deal with that group. Often it was 1 on 3 with the Fla front line. He was tough, did a great job, but boy was that a tall(no pun) order.

End of game yes, but these press situations are starting with 3-4 minutes left and the clock doesn't stop until it's under 1 minute

Yes the 1 the FL team got a delay of game, it was right after 1 minute and AK was clearly trying to drain 4-5 seconds. Of course the ref stopped the clock to apply the delay of game.

He is a beast and had 11 rebounds. Fortunately, he was 0 for 4 from the FT line.

That was a really fun game. The paint was a war zone. When you get beat on the offensive boards by 10 and give up 27 FTs against a ranked team, most of the time you lose that game. But the defense held strong because everybody was playing tough. Florida shot 42% and 27% from three so we were able to overcome the rebounding problem. Big shoutout Tarris and Stewart. Everyone was battling, but they were fighting extra hard

That second half stretch was awesome. Florida goes up on the Haugh three. But then Braylon hits 3 shots, Malachi hits a tough jumper and finds Reibe for an open layup, Solo hits a three, AK blocks Lee (definitely a foul lol) and then hits a three

Then the best play of the game. Malachi hits the beautiful euro step. The first two guys that ran off the bench to mug him were Jacob Ross and Alec Millender, two guys who got 0 minutes. This team has CULTURE

From down 3 to up 8 in around 6 minutes during that stretch. That was so great to watch. Really good win, LETS GO HUSKIES
And UConn never trailed after AK hit that three.

Ross was unplayable in the first half. Definitely had some nice defensive possessions in the second half but was a total deer in the headlights on offense. I don’t even blame him for that last turnover. There is no world in which Ross should be catching that inbound pass.
Ross just doesn't add any offense to the team except when he is wide open for a shot!!

.-.
Lee carries the ball a ton. You could see Hurley complaining about it.

Went as good as it could have gone, they ground it out. Path to a 1 seed looks really solid as you’d think the other 3 will be winner of B10 and B12 and then Duke.

Right now to me that looks like Michigan, Arizona, Duke and UConn.
Add Gonzaga to this list. Their conference run is very soft so I can’t imagine two more losses on that schedule

AZ, MICH, ISU, Purdue all have tougher conference slates that Gon, Duke and us. We hope that it’s a slugfest

Malachi is that dude!!!!

Might as well just go ahead and start Mullins if he can’t stay on the floor for more than 2 minutes at a time.

This is the first time in a while I felt we were physically dominated. FL is huge and knows how to use their size. Could also tell Tarris’ legs weren’t fully there.

Our guards struggled to drive and kick, being lulled too deep into the paint in the first half.

Another masterclass half time adjustment by the staff on Lee & Haugh.

That was an all out war. What an amazing game to watch.
They're big, but they're skilled big men, other than Chinyelu. Not that he necessarily wasn't, but the rest of their bigs were active and skilled.

I agree…Lee was holding whomever he was guarding when trying to get through screens, consistently. They finally called one because he strangled Solo lol.
All teams do that to us. Does the coach talk to refs before the game about issues ?

There was one play where Mullins went to the hoop and could see his jersey being held clear as day that even an nfl ref would have called holding.

I don’t question the fouls that get called on us as much as I do those that don’t get called committed against us.

Anyone else have that "Oh no....great shot!" moment when Malachi was breaking with Ross a small step ahead of his man in position for a jam when instead Mal looks the other way to Alex who cans the sweet three?

.-.
Hurley has to start Mullin next game. It's time. The kid is ready.

Plus, Silas has been slacking offensively, and I think the kid can give our SL a spark.
Possible Mullins starts, but it won't be at Silas' expense.

As for inbounding, until Braylon earns 'lock it down' time we are not what you'd call a quick-twitch bunch (see: Florida) though better than last year. Our guys seem to make their move to get open but then stop moving hard. Inevitably, Alex will be looking for the 4th and worst option. They've got to extend their break to open territory for more than just the first move.

Lee was a killer in the first half. Glad he can't shoot for s....
Damn their bigs are strong and skilled. Thank God we have Tarris and Eric.
Don't dismiss ANY of our players. Guys were ready to give up on Ball and Stewie and they played great. Going 10 deep is what makes us better.
Smith is that junkyard dog that every team needs to win in close games. Stop taking him out at the end Danny!

Thank you, Malachi. Clearly our best PG right now and not all that close .

What a win and a what a battle. FLA has some legit dudes
At the end of the game after the handshakes he looked at someone (bench or fans) and made that gator chomp motion. Starting to pick up where Cam left off! He is really fast and it is especially effective having him come in during the latter part of the game. He is a blur out there with real NYC toughness. There all getting the kinks out and rust off. This performance in MSG was a delight. Having all these big non conference games early in the season is really exciting. Really proud of them for battling against some real beasts out there last night.

Demary with 2 assists. That won’t cut it. He has to be more decisive and others have to move and create passing lanes. Smith had 9 assists, showing how to do it. Our offense is built off of assists, not one on one play.

Reed looked good early then faded a bit. Florida’s 2-3 bigs took away a lot in the paint and I thought we wasted a lot of possessions challenging them. UConn wasn’t going to win this without knocking down jump shots. Don’t know if the game plan was bad or the decision making was bad, but we need to adjust better.
He's just not seeing anything - Hurley's said it, his eyes aren't in the right place. Right now he just doesn't look like a natural passer.

I can't see the Zags getting a 1 seed out of the WCC, not this year.

Officials should be ashamed. Great win. Go Huskies
Very inconsistent game for the officiating. Not sure why we've had so many games where the officiating is night and day from one half to the next.

I'd have to find the play, but it was Reed's third of fourth that somehow he managed to foul the guy behind him on a rebound.

It may be time to start Mullins. Roles are starting to be defined, but I don't think his role is clear yet. Is he a starter? instant offense off the bench? I kind of wish we had a couple more cupcake games to work him into the offensive flow.

Florida is really big. Like, insanely big. I understand why Hurley has mentioned playing Reibe and Reed together when you see a front court like Condon and Chinyelu. Then Handlogten and Haugh as well. They were grabbing 3 offensive boards at a time every possession at one point. I'm not sure we have the bodies to play big like that, but I get why he's thought about it.

Nice to see Solo shoot it well from 3. 3/8 is solid and if he gives us that every game for the rest of the season, plus what he's been doing in the mid range, I'll take it.

Mullins looked good in his limited action. Sorry but a couple of those fouls were really ticky tack for how physical the game was. Sucks he was neutralized a bit by those calls because when he was on the court you could tell he came to play. Kid is a stud, with such a sweet shot. Reibe had himself another solid performance as well. Those 2 are going to kill it this season.

Another great win for the resume. Still feels like we haven't seen this team at 100% yet with Reed working his way back and Mullins limited by fouls tonight.
Sorry but a couple of those fouls were really ticky tack for how physical the game was.

I agree with the general sentiment, but 4 of Mullins' fouls were dumb freshman fouls. The first one was a fluke, but fouls 2-5 were him reaching after getting beat by the ball handler. I love the kid, but let's not re-write history either.
