Florida post game thread

After 13 straight ncaa wins and two national champions , went down like one putting fear of god in the best team.

i feel comfortable with loss because they struggled all year in finding that 1-on-1 scorer who can bail you out.

Inconsistent defense, inconsistent outside shooting , and lack of breakdown 1-on-1 scorer.

Hey. That happens.

I am going to watch Dook lose that will cheer me up!
Taken from Dallas when they did last year….

Yeah, the two missed FT rebounds are the toughest to swallow.
The one off Liams hand and then a 3. A number of missed bunny’s on both sides. This came down to Clayton just making shots and he did. Clayton was 5-8 from 3 and they were often contested. Gotta take your hat off to that.
Clayton and Richard were 7-12 from 3. We outfought them otherwise as a team.

went out on their swords

Respect

Samson and Diarra showed out especially, but effort all around. UConn toughness.
I thought it was the best game by each that I could remember. Sad to imagine even how much better Diarra could’ve been but for his knee.

...

Relax about what. All I said is he needs to stay? His numbers were horrible down the stretch. How can you watch him if you’re an NBA scout and this he’s an NBA player?
He's got a freakish body that is perfect for the NBA. That's literally what every NBA scout leads with lol

Our offense is built for open threes and slips. They gave us open threes but we proved for weeks we are not a good three point shooting team. Solo, Ak and McNeeley have not been good from three for a long time. If you want to knockoff a 1 seed need to hit open shots and play solid D. We only did one of those things.

A word for those limited to this millennium. This was a very 90's tournament loss. Played well, just not well enough to beat a good team with a great player.

Clayton was clearly the difference. Yes, we could have made a few more easy buckets but we also couldn't have predicted the championship class effort in defense. Best game Samson Johnson ever played. Hass showed up at both ends. Stewart, Mahaney and Reed played well for long stretches. Our scorers scored, even if you didn't like the percentages. Our staff was better than there staff.

As I said in another thread, we should regret losing the games that put us at 8 and having to face a tournament favorite so early. Today's effort would have beat most other teams in the field.

Literally can't win them all.

Gameplan was solid and we played tough. Shooting and a few poor decision in the final few minutes let us down.

Exactly. A game of inches and in the last five minutes UConn made several mistakes that doomed them. McNeeley in particular had a poor finish to the game and played liked a freshman with his decision making. They all added up to a loss.

This team was frustrating. They had the talent to make you believe they could do great things, but they never actually proved they could in the end.

AK's missed layup at 3 minutes left was easily the play of the game. Would have given UConn a little margin down the stretch. Instead, Florida erupted and we never recovered. It's one thing missing 3s. Its another when you cant make the easy ones when it really counts.

All of the 6 Title teams each had that clutch gene. It was clearly missing on this year's team.
Wrong.

This team lacked a passer who makes his teammates better, otherwise known as a "glue guy", we had that with Newton, Spencer, Castle and Andre Jackson. I think the Aussie kid has a chance to be that guy, need to find another one in the portal.

Almost certainly would have. That was our only WTF loss of the year. Without it, they're likely a 7, maybe better.
I really don't think the committee looked at that stuff based on the seeding this year. I think they had their head in their butts looking at these newfangled metrics. Just look at how they evaluated the bubble for more proof.

  • 1968 UCLA Bruins – They won the championship despite finishing the regular season with a record of 19-11.
  • 1985 Villanova Wildcats – Villanova won the national title with a 26-10 record.

End of list.

Overwhelming odds were this squad was going to have their season end prior to cutting down the nets.

I was hoping for win for ‘selfish ‘ personal reasons. I have a life threatening disease with no cure so I may be around next year at least I have a chance at the football UConn season. I apologize if It appears that I am looking for sympathy. I am not just want to say good buy to you Yarders in case I am correct. Been a fan of both UConn basketball and football since the early 1960.’s. Good luck UConn and good luck Yatders.

Nothing against the Gators, but anyone who thinks that team wouldn’t get blown out by last year’s Huskies is delusional. They’d just be another 13+ point victim.
Not one of these number 1s would could even close to last year's team. If they returned, they would run roughshod through this field

I went into this game thinking a win is possible, but would be satisfied with our guys playing with pride and toughness, and keeping it respectful score wise in a loss. They did much more than that. But I almost wish FL had maintained a 4 pt lead the entire 2nd half with us never getting over the hump, than us controlling the 2nd half and choking it away. This should have been a double digit win

According to my doctors this might be my last husky game-/ what a ride. Thank you to Jim Calhoun Kevin Ollie dan Hurley and especially all the great players. Thanks for managing the board here! Best of luck
