Passing the ball against a team you are shredding with runs is not the best thing to do i thought. I didn’t want him to pass at all once it was clear they couldn’t handle the run

Meanwhile. the reaction on this board to who should be QB is a hoot. Starting season nobody wanted Fagnano. Then everyone wanted him and Evers wasn’t the answer. Now …,….. Personally I want to see how Evers does when he has to pass more often, but his running threat hopefully will help that. He made a few nice throws yesterday. I couldn’t go in person last night but will be going vs. Buffalo. Bragging rights with my grandson who goes to Buffalo are at stake.

I wasn’t suggesting they take any risks that could let FAU back in the game. They were up by enough that they could have let him execute a few more pass plays, that’s all. Also, at the end of the first half there was a great opportunity to let him take some shots, but we decided to run it, then take a knee instead. I thought that was weird. You gotta show your qb some confidence imo.

Concerning whatever “qb issue” people might be talking about, Evers is the guy and that’s that. I’m rooting for him 100% and believe he can be a very good qb for us this year.

The problem with that idea is if you a) have a substantial lead and b) are running the ball basically at will against them, how does it make any sense to do anything other than continue to run the ball?

Nothing a few bucks can’t resolve (Populous Comprehensive Building Assessment from 2 years ago - pgs 55>59):

Sound - Noted Defects & Issues: The bowl loudspeakers are original to the venue according to the operator. Many seasons of freezing and heating are taking their toll on the internal components of the speakers, including possible crossover network failures, high frequency and low frequency driver failures to material and adhesive issues. For high frequency failures, this significantly compromises speech intelligibility, which is obviously desirable for entertainment events but critically important during emergency and inclement weather for providing direction to patrons seated in the bowl

Recommendations 1. Repair defective existing bowl loudspeakers until full replacement can be done. a. If the fidelity and performance of the current bowl loudspeakers (in good repair) are adequate to stakeholders and patrons, then new, updated versions of the loudspeaker product would be a cost effective solution.... 4. Replace the aging, partially defective Yamaha M7 bowl sound mixer with a more cost effective model; Yamaha CL series, A&H QU or SQ series

Getting into the weeds and a little OT but a lot of choices when you start looking into what's out there for soundboard capability. You would think there's not many layers to stadium sound but you might underestimate what it entails or the learning curve and customizations available.

We lost to Duke, got obliterated by Maryland and all decent bowl slots are committed to particular conferences. So, in a word, no.

That having been said, we’re obviously a significantly better team than we were last year. Let’s beat Buffalo and Temple at home and go on from there.
He's kidding. He has to be.

I wouldn’t even pretend you can judge a coach from his team playing a horrific game. Is Mora a better coach today than he was on the bus coming back from College Park 3 weeks ago? Almost certainly not.
it wasn’t just this game. He is 5-11 at FAU..and his team isn’t gettting better.

Cam Ross with 7 catches for 107 and a TD against the Heels. Not a big, physical #1, but the best receiver we’d had since Noel Thomas. But we had no idea how to get him the ball.
I like Cam Ross, but I think you have to look closer at his performance this year as stats can be deceiving. 9 out of his 12 catches were thrown 9 yards or less which is as expected as a slot receiver. His YAC are 4.9 yards which is probably below average and his drop rate is 25% with 1 fumble. PFF grades him as JMU's 5th WR.

He did have 44 receptions last year, so I think he was utilized at UConn. Statistically, he was not the same player after his freshman year and I think injuries slowed him down.

Impressive...UConn's running game tonight would have beaten Alabama. The OL were throwing (literally) players around and the RBs were elusive. We'll have our choice of Bowl games and an outside shot at the Playoffs if we run the table. Let's go!
Lets not get ahead of ourselves just yet. FAU did a lot to loose the game and make UConn look as good as they did.

Hide your playbook too, Evers was very much involved in the offense as he was running the ball to and faking out the defense himself so he wasn't just handing off the ball.

Jayden McDonald was a GREAT find in the portal as was Skyler Bell. What do both guys have in common? A track record of production. More guys like that please!!!
Skyler Bell is the best skill player talent we've had here in a while. He makes great blocks too. Really, really good pickup

Awful call. That is all that Brown did on that touchdown. Robinson did a little dance after his touchdowns but there was never a call. Get rid of the rule. Referees don't uniformly enforce the rule. Its way too subjective. It is unfair to punish a team for what a referee thinks is unsportmanlike celebration when we see it over and over again other games every weekend and NEVER called.
I agree that this penalty is not called consistently. During the Nebraska Illinois game on Friday night the refs missed a taunting call. I believe it was Nebraska that missed a FG and the Illinois player did a finger wag which was clearly a taunt. Tim Brando noticed it but no call.

My wife said the exact same thing last night - there should be a text on the scoreboard of what the ref is saying. Couldn't understand anything being said over the PA really. The sound system is great if your are in the upper bowl or in the parking lot, as the speakers are all attached at the top of the stadium, but you can't make out a thing in the lower bowl.
We had great seats at the 50 yard line in lower bowl. It was hard to understand anything and everyone in our row agreed. We couldn’t even hear them announce the MBB team which is a real shame. It definitely affects the game experience

What did you all think of that catch almost at the end of the game by Shamore Porter? Looked amazing. That play I will always remember along with Christian Vital's speech in March 2020. Go UConn

Interesting memories.

You gotta love the enthusiasm.

It is nice to see the defense improve so much from week one. Much better tackling by all 3 levels and getting pressure on pass rush. LBs are much better as a group this year. Sammis had us running plays at a faster pace and it put more pressure on FAUs defense. And we did not look disorganized with that pace even with the substituting. That adjustment in his route by Bell on the long first Q reception really got us going. The celebration penalties need to stop right now.
As for the sound system even in upper level it can be hard to figure out what is said. When they honor people on the field how about graphics on the board like their name and achievements. John Tuite droning on through a long list with a bad sound system makes no sense. This happened with a UConn alumni military member last night. Fans lose interest because they do not know what is going on.

Anybody got a link to highlights or a replay? UHGcom hasn't had new football games for the last couple seasons

not to pile on game audio/video folks but the scores on the ribbon boards were way behind real time. Kept showing BUF 3 NIU 14 (the halftime score) when the game was long over BUF 23 NIU 20 (OT)

Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but it wasn't great execution by Fagnano. He got it close but had the defender been angled a bit differently it was an easily pickable ball.
Should’ve been 2 other picks earlier in the game as well. FAU is by far the worst team I’ve ever seen play in person..

Do you even watch football outside of UConn. There is no way you do.

Did you see Evers make that awful throw into end zone in the 1st? Or completely miss his first throw. Or miss his basic slant throw. Come on. Get real.
It’s shocking isn’t it.. lol
