But who exactly do you put above UConn right now aside from Arizona? Everyone else has either worse losses or clearer flaws that put them lower. Hell, you could even argue Arizona is a Reed and Mullins away from being in that group.

Michigan: Too volatile; maybe higher ceiling but much lower floor (also lack high end wins)
Duke: Backcourt is lacking
Iowa State: Maybe but lost by 20+ @ a flawed Kansas
Houston: Loss to Tennessee; good but I don’t see them over us right now
Vanderbilt: lmao

I know back in the day the NCAA Tournament Committee had a rule where teams from the same conference could not play against each other until the Elite 8. I believe that rule is largely in place now and they try to stick to that with some exceptions if a conference has a large number of teams in the NCAAT as it would be tougher with these super-sized conferences. Examples would include UConn playing Cincinnati in the 2nd round of the 2011 NCAAT when both were in the Big East and the Big East had 11 teams in the NCAAT. Also, Kentucky playing Tennessee in the Sweet 16 last year was another example as the SEC had 14 teams in the NCAAT.

I agree with this take. Not because I'm a UConn fan.
Sometimes when im watching a non-uconn game, I'll pretend that the favored team is my team. I watch them as though I'm watching uconn. I let every missed shot feel like a Mullins or AK miss.

Every great team does the same kind of stuff we gripe about.

Also, what is the the game to game volatility scale based on(1.10 - 1.20)? Michigans loss was very bad but I don’t see that they are hugely volatile - like the scale shows. Unless it somehow penalizes them for large winning scores.

1. Those other teams are also great, we and Arizona have simply distanced ourselves as especially elite

2. In any given game Michigan looks either unstoppable or incredibly vulnerable. This team beat top 10 Gonzaga by 40 and went on a streak of demolition against solid teams but at the beginning of the season and right now, they’ve looked terrible against worse competition (Wake Forest, TCU, Wisconsin, Penn State).

They would 100% do that. You're not getting #1 and #2 seeds in the same region from the same conference. There may even be bracketing principles that forbid (or strongly discourage) it.

I also have a hard time seeing the Big 12 owning half of the top 8 seeds.
