No surprise Rodney Purvis is on the list.

Rodney Purvis, UConn: The Huskies will need to find another perimeter scorer after Shabazz Napier's departure and Purvis should be more than up to the challenge. The 6-4 pit bull averaged 8.3 points two years ago at NC State and should immediately start in the Huskies' back court next to Ryan Boatright. Former UConn coach Jim Calhoun said several times this year that Purvis regularly dominated some of the Huskies' practices and he'll need to display that type of form if Kevin Ollie is going to continue to have this program deep in the NCAA Tournament.

Regularly dominated against Samuel, boatright, and Napier. Not bad for a guy some NC state fans say is an overhyped disappointment who couldn't earn playing time.

Does he have an outside shot?

His highlights are all dunks. And while he looks athletic as heck, does anyone know if he is dependable behind the arc?

He does. I watched a 6 min. youtube highlight reel and it was about 60/40 dunks / layups to three point shots. Looked pretty reliable to me.

No mention of how he plays against a chair?

Not a consistent clip. It's something we will have to develop, along with a better ball handle. But his upside is crazy he has like a 37 inch vert, body is NBA ready, defensive intensity is crazy, finishes through contact as good or better than any other guard we've had.

Without any baggage attached to this statement, I'd say his game reminds me of Dyson.

He was 30-78 at NCSt for 38%. His problem was from the foul line where he was just 52%. I assume that will be worked on.

Speaking of long distance shooting, I've seen several videos now of Phil Nolan draining 3s and deep mid-range shots. Where was that all season?

If other teams saw Samuel/Boat/Purvis/Hamilton/Daniels on the court together they'd probably take their ball and go home.

Happily left on the practice court! Would not have been thrilled to see those going up.

But still he wasn't considered a shooter coming in and 38% was kind of over achieving a little that year. He is known for his Athleticism, intensity, slashing ability, finishing through contact, defensive prowess... We will need to work on his handle and his shot. Right now he's like a Ron Artest type player.

Hopefully these things are something he worked on all year while sitting……..can't be Ron Artest though as he's 6'8" and Rodney is 6'3 best……..38% from 3 is a great number considering his ability to slash. That will keep the defenses honest for sure!!

If we had another center Nolan would be a fine 4. Then you'd see his face up game more.

Yeah I think he's better from 12-15 feet facing up and it's fairly obvious he played that way until this year or last. He doesn't have any natural skills with his back to the basket but man the kid worked hard!!

Rodney hit a ton of threes early on and was actually maybe States best player two way player through the Duke game. Something happened and he fell off a cliff. There was speculation he and TJ Warren had issues and that he didn't like the way Gottfried used him.

Right, I just meant from a skill set perspective. TBH Purv is probably more athletic than ron artest ever was though.

Isn't the 30-78 enough to override the not being considered a shooter thing. I'd also like to think a year carrying the clipboard for Shabazz may have taught him something. I've got high hopes for this kid, even if JC gave him the dreaded best player in practice label.

One think you can always guarantee we'll develop players and his upside is sky high. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes out and shoots 42% from three and can be a primary ball handler but coming out of high school he wasn't necessarily known for these things and his year at NC State was very inconsistent so the 38% is very misleading...
