First Night '24-'25

Just one last Morgan observation: she may not be Hannah Hidalgo fast, but she’s plenty fast enough for PG especially since she can see over the defense and generally sees the court really well. Madison Booker did really well running the point for Texas last season and she’s certainly no faster than Morgan. She was strong and decisive, regularly muscled past smaller defenders and was too much for opposing guards to handle most of the time.

I thought it was a joke when this began. But Morgan is absolutely quick enough and smart enough to play PG. Geno may want to use her elsewhere on the court. But Geno often distributes PG responsibilities across a few players at a time. The Gabby-Phee-Kia-KLS teams were like that, since their focus on transition meant any player could end up bringing the ball up the floor and initiating the offense.

Morgan may not be the full time designated PG right away. But she can break the press as well as anyone and I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up covering the point at least part time in a year or two. She’s in the Haley Jones mold but with considerably better foot speed. And I think the impact of having a 6’2” PG barreling down the floor at much smaller defenders is worth making room for in roster planning.
I fully expect to see some combination of Jana, Sarah, Morgan, Ice in high-low sets many times this year. That’s some set of players capable of hitting from some distance, moves down low, and passing.

One thing Sarah and Morgan share is experience playing at the tip of the full-court press in high school.

I don’t really see the Azzi similarities. Smaller Caroline? Absolutely. That’s exactly who she reminds me of.
Both make almost all their shots?????

Ionescu did virtually no scoring in the Liberty's victory, and she is great. Outside shooters can drop dozens of 3s in exhibitions and practices: it means little. The test is what they do in the pressure-cooker of a game.

I'm not sure how we're talking about Sabrina, but I think I disagree. She had a bad shooting night. Azzi has had a few of those. But teams still have to respect her shot, fear it even, and it distorts their defense on everyone else. That's what an elite shooter does. Expect to see a few games like this in the coming season -- Azzi or Paige will come out flat, but opponents will still have to cover them and others will get open.

She was reportedly exhausted. Stewie is already asking for more rest between games. She and Ionescue shot something like 5 for 34 in that game. I’d say the evidence is pretty good that both teams were exhausted.
Next year it will be best of seven!

No excuse for some of Sab’s shots. She bricked the thing from half court multiple while there were 20 seconds left on the shot clock. That’s her trying to play Hero Ball at the wrong time. Courtney Williams was guilty of that as well.

UConn has several players with pg skills. That's a lot of good passers, good hands, good ball handlers and a ton of court awareness.

After the Ohio state ncaa tournament game. I like real point guards. Not players with point guard skills that can pass, handle the ball, and have court awareness.

I do agree there’s a real difference between a true, natural point guard and a combo guard with great ball skills! Having said that though, you cannot have too many guards with point guard skills even if they are not true point guards! This team has lots of those!
Anyone know how to make the next 14 days go by a little faster?Head bang I’m having a hard time waiting for Nov 7!

Just for the record wht do you consider a "real point guard"?

Charlie might have been using sarcasm. Here's a lesson for everyone, sarcasm hardly ever works on the BY.
We on the BONEYARD, surely Zarathustra, can be let's say " sensitive " about "our" team. I
agree with "Skeets"... apologies to "CHARLIE". GO UCONN...GO BONEYARD! Z
