First NET ranking

In the words of former Boston all star catcher Jake Taylor...

.-.
0-2 in Quad 1 (Memphis, Dayton)
0-1 in Quad 2 (Colorado)
5-0 in Quad 4
That is not a top 40 resume. Demolishing the cupcakes by 30-40+ is doing a LOT of heavy lifting for us

Seton Hall is 200 due to their 2 quad 4 losses

Auburn has 4 Q1 wins, Marquette is tied for 2nd most with 3 (Pitt 3-1, Marquette/Kansas/Oregon 3-0)

looks like Big East as a whole is top-4 in the first NET. Followed by ACC, A10, MW

I've watched 3 Pitt games so far. Tourney team? 98% probability IMO. Too 5 team? Not a chance. There are some very good pieces in Lowe, Corhen, Austin, and now the emergence of Papa Kante, but still can go off the rails when Leggett plays hero ball or Diaz-Graham faces physical bigs who can also defend the perimeter. Dunn's injury hurts the frontcourt, he won't be back till January.

.-.
Think we really need to win 2 of those 3 or else we may be in deep doo-doo come Selection Sunday unless we rack up 16+ BE wins.
That would still worry me. Look at Seton Hall last year. The Big East was much stronger and 13 wins didn’t get them in. If we win 1 or 0 of our next 3 we may be looking at needing to win the tournament to get in.

That is a sobering thought.
Sure is. The Baylor game is as close to a must win as it gets this early as it will be the most winnable game of the three. If they can’t pull that one off, it starts feeling like a steep uphill unless we kill the BE.

Won’t have another Q1 home game until March.

Last year’s team was historic and still took 3 road losses and won 3 by two possessions or fewer. We will be on the wrong side of the bubble the entire season if we don’t beat Baylor.

quad records are an OUTPUT of NET, not an input.

Hurley knows that, so what he does Wednesday is likely a decent sign of what he’s looking to do directionally as it comes to the season. No tinkering in this one, it’s petal to the metal time.

Thank goodness we have DePaul out there as the class of the conference.

Don’t worry. The mighty Seton Hall Pirates will bail us out. They came within 12 of Monmouth who got their first win!

Which goes back to my complaint. We played UNH and Sacred Heart. Then added UMES #362, East Texas A&M #296 and LeMoyne #283.

That didn't prepare us adequately. Truly the worst of the worst cupcakes. Should be playing Northeastern, Maine, Bryant, Brown and CCSU. Might have made the different in losing an OT game to Memphis. I know you can't predict it fully in advance when schedules are set, but you can do better than we did.

We did play an exhibition game against URI.

Seton Hall is an example of how difficult it is for a small private to succeed in the de facto free agency created by NIL and unrestricted transfers. They lost players and struggled to replace them through the portal.

I actually like Holloway as a coach, but they are going to struggle to put up points this year. I fully expect their defense to be pretty solid by the end of the year. That's what Holloway does best.

Lol really Kobe? Maybe you guys should actually play a quad one opponent before you talk?

By the way, just in case you've forgotten how your season ended last year:

(The Boneyard always remembers.)

Hopefully, you guys can put together a nice little NIT run again this year! It would be good for Cincinnati fans to have something to cheer about.

The present NET rankings are not looking good for Big East NCAA bids.

I agree with this. At the very least you have a much better idea of what you can and can’t do. I don’t have a problem playing a couple of lower level New England opponents, UNH and Sacred Heart for example, but come on. East Texas? Maryland Eastern Shore? Really? We should be looking for at least a couple of games against teams in the 100-200 range and maybe 1 in the 75-100ish range. In addition to whatever we run into in whatever Tournament.

And I don’t think this was a “miss”. It was intentional. On know planet did anyone think UMES or Texas A&M Commerce or LeMoyne would be anything but what they were.

As best as I can tell, this is our lowest NET ranking since we were 42nd on Feb. 26, 2021.

FWIW, we got as high as 28 before finishing the season at 30.
