I agree with most of this and Vince Lombardi conditioned us all to believe everything he said was gospel. "Leaders aren't born they are made." You can train people to lead in a structured environment, like football and basketball and the military. But there are many stories coming out of the military of privates in combat taking over a unit an exhibiting exemplary leadership.

I agree with this. Any excellent unit/organization has both great formal and informal leaders. Rank/position doesn’t necessarily mean they’re great leaders.
