Saw an interview of Gary Blair on line (ESPN??) earlier today... essentially the conversation dealt with whether A&M should have been a 1 Seed instead of a 2 seed... then in their first round game they squeak out a win over the #15 seed in their region.

UGGHHH... in theory the game should not have been close.

Officiating has long been over due for a massive change in the way officials are developed. There are specific skills that officials must possess that can be developed to a degree but basically they are either there or they are not. That would be the excellent analytical vision and processing speed. You have to be able to see it and then process what you see quickly. You can have all the game experience you want but your abilitty will ultimately be llimited by your inate abilities. This ability should be there at the entry level. It would eliminate the type of incompetence we constantly see.

Officiating in games began by taking fans out of the stands to call games. It gradually evolved but not at eliminating certain people at the entry level.. With the technology available to day, test could be developed that would screen out those that did not have the talent to become an excellent official. Officiating should be given the same level of selections as players go though. An incompetent official can impact the game more than a single bad player. .

Three ridiculously bad calls in a row to save Texas A&M from ncaa tournament ignominy Did anyone watching BUT the refs believe that wasn’t over and back or an obvious charge? I’m guessing ref bet the money line on A &M.

Massive call goes A&M's way. Could've been an and-1 for Troy to take the lead (a call that surely would've gone Bungee's way), instead called a charge.

Terrible, terrible call which could have easily swung this game the other way. Not the way you want to go out.

Wow - just went back and watched all three calls.
1. That was absolutely a blocking foul and an +1 on the made basket. The defender was sliding sideways and never had any kind of position and you could not claim the offensive player used arms or shoulder to 'charge' into the defender. Just terrible!

2. The foul on the TA&M player, meh. Seen those plays left uncalled and it is hard to see anything more than the driver tripping over players with their feet set. But, I don't see it as bad - it gets called maybe 50% as a foul and 50% as a walk.

3. You as the in-bounding team are deemed to have possession. If you touch the ball in the front court whether your floor player has full possession before it goes into the back court, that is an over and back. If the ball is thrown into the back court before you touch it, then it is just normal possession. So yeah - that was an over and back because no defender touched the ball. That is why when there is an in bound play under your basket, and it is thrown over your head, your taught not to try and control it until it is in the back court. Not sure if that play is reviewable.

TA&M is extremely lucky and the women of Troy was robbed!

Problem with the women's refs is MONEY. The NBA pays to develop men's refs and college is a great training ground. The NFL pays to develop refs and college is a great training ground. The women get the left overs and there is no money engine that is backing their development.

the problem with the second one was they likely called it on the wrong player. I only saw one replay so maybe the help defender was at fault, but it looked like the primary defender tripped her if anyone. The help defender was Troy’s best player who had 26 and that call fouled her out.

Penny Davis, the head of Women's officiating claimed that the ref felt that the ball was not possessed until it reached backcourt. The replay shows otherwise, but Davis chalked it up as too close to call. I personally feel that the ref was clueless that a backcourt violation was an option.

After a replay of the backcourt play was posted, Twitter lit up with hundreds of complaints about that call. LOL...most of the critics probably didn't see the game and that horrendous charge call. Davis slyly avoided addressing anything except the backcourt play.

There is no way that Texas A&M deserved the #5 ranking ahead of Baylor & Maryland. They lost their tournament & lost to 9-13 LSU. They had a great year, but they belong behind the Terps & Bears.

This is not accurate. Tournament seeding is based on resume and body of work, and A&M's was clearly superior to both Maryland's and Baylor's. One loss is one loss, whether it happens in the conference tournament or in the regular season, and does not overshadow the remaining ~96% of the schedule.

This wasn't even a close call for the committee. The closer call was between SC, NC St, and TAMU for the overall #3, 4 and 5 spots. The overriding deficiency in Maryland's and Baylor's resumes in considering them for a potential #1 seed was a lack of top-tier wins.

It's always easy to apply retroactive sophistry to the seedings. But just because an upset or unexpectedly close game happens, doesn't mean that the teams were mis-seeded. That's why they play the games.
