This is why Ollie had to go. Wright understands the math. Dunks and 3s. That’s it. Ollie was 180 degrees from that. He didn’t defend the 3 with enough emphasis and didn’t build a team to take them.
and when the 3's go dry and you can't hit those mid range shots?

anyway - 14 3's for Nova and no talk here about Kansas defending the 3
Opponents make 6 in a half vs UConn and it's the end of the world
Has Nova hit any 2pt jumpers?

Ollie still ran our program into the dumpster, just like the championship, you can’t take either of those things away from him. So yes, he’ll continue to be criticized all over this board.

You know that Kansas is going to make a run, but it feels like Nova is going to put this game out of reach.

I like mid range jumpers from elbow to elbow, and from the short corner. I don't think you design an offense around it, but those are good shots and keep the help defense honest.

No jumpers but some nasty dunks which we never got many of this season. Lot more fun watching this type of basketball then grind to a halt stuff one on one we had.

Just like watching blue blood Kansas blow it again. Self ain’t all that. The rock and the chalk is responsible for 85% of the recruiting I don’t hear the “ I really connected with bill” reason for committing too often.
I still don’t understand how Kansas recruits so well but Self arguably does less with more than any other coach. He has 1 ring but with all the talent he gets year in and year out he should have more.

I have no idea what any of this means.

Not everyone agrees with the reasons why UConn is where it is. A thread about Villanova vs. Kansas is not the place to re-litigate this issue.

Taking 2 point jumpers is a bad idea. Always. That’s what the metrics say. Nova has taken zero. Layups, dunks and 3s. Arizona State played exactly like that when they beat KU earlier this year.

KU is playing pretty well since the first five minutes. Villanova is just playing out of their minds. Nothing much they can do. Nova was the only team that impressed me all year long.

Never said it was, just letting you know it’s gonna happen.

Nova is single-handedly destroying the narrative that not just non-P5, but non-FBS schools can't be dominant programs in a world where football drives the bus.

Did Nova need the breakup of the big east for this to happen?

Interesting point. If Syracuse, Cinncinati and UConn were still there Nova would probably still be behind them.

They didn't blossom until the break up

Rip made his career on the mid range J. It’s still a tool you should use if it’s open.
Sure, intelligent 10 to 15 footers coming off good screens, on pull-ups etc should still be utilized. But our team specialized in poor, lower percentage twos these past four years, not the ones you referenced.

This isn’t the team to make that point about. This is the worst KU team, talent wise, in years. They have no business being a #1 seed or being in the final four. He did a very good job with this team. Other teams, maybe he could have done more. I’m pretty sure I pay more attention to them than most here.

I know it's a moot point, but I wonder how dook would have matched up against Nova.

I don't think they would be 20 points behind.

If Kansas looses by 20, the Jayhawk forum will melt down

Worse. KU torched them from outside. I even recal @nelsonmuntz talkimg about how awful their perimeter defense was.

Huh, you would think older guys would appreciate the shooting. I'm 46 and love the level of shot making that you see from the good teams.

Old guy checking in... There are teams that hoist quick threes and there are teams that have beautiful ball movement that result in made threes. Hate the former, love the latter.

Then again, I'm old enough to remember ABA guys like Louis Dampier and Brian Taylor.

In a vacuum, sure. But tell that to guys like Rip who rode 2 pt jumpers to the Hall (yes, I know it was a diff time). Point is, for certain players, it's a good shot.

Overall your point holds of course. Carry on.

I think Villanova had the talent before, but Wright had a couple of classes that were just not mentally tough. It happens.
Wright has never had anything close to this amount of talent in the past.

FT attempts 16- 0 KU's favor. A little suspicious, but tough to complain when you're up 17. Still, the hacking is not that one-sided to my eye.

All about coach. Jay Wright worked his way up over the years into a Top 5 coach. You canwin anywhere if you are that good.

I don't think that's true. Jay Wright has been on a normal (HOF) career trajectory. He won his first title at 54; JC was 57 for his.

Jay had some success a decade ago, but went through a lull after. He just started recruiting the wrong guys....thought he had to get the Top 20 guys from there on out (like Ollie). It didn't work. They weren't right for him and his system and vice versa. He started recruiting his guys, getting much lower ranked recruiting classes, and started winning again.
