OT: FIFA World Cup Soccer Tickets ?

I'm not holding my breath.
I got my time slot. Bought a few games. Expensive (yes, I feel like a sucker), but we're fans and it'll be a fun family activity. Glad I didn't buy the NFTs with the right to buy. I think they are releasing tickets as they go. I can't imagine they're going to run out before giving people access outside the non-Visa prebuy.

How much were the tickets?

Average of $500 per ticket (after tax and fees) for the games I got. Don't judge me! I don't think they released the cheaper seats in the presale. Metlife, along with LA and San Francisco, are the most expensive venues for some reason. I don't know if that's because they are getting the more popular teams.

Wow

I piggy-backed onto a friend's lottery selection for a game in Boston. $300 each with fees in the category 2 seats.

.-.
A friend got us tickets for the Round of 32 match in Foxborough on June 29. Winner of Group E vs a 3rd place team from A, B, C, D or F. Winner of E looks likely to be Germany, so that's cool. The other team could be anybody. Japan would be interesting but I'd be surprised if they aren't 1st or 2nd.

I'm getting two of Brazil, Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti, will find out tomorrow which two. Hoping for Brazil obviously. Going to Scotland the month after, so that would be fun too. Morocco/Haiti is worst case scenario.

Brazil/Haiti seems like the most likely.

I look at some of these match ups and think there will affordable tickets closer to game time.
Definitely don't pay secondary prices right now, a lot more tickets to be released. But I doubt the tickets get below the lottery price ($300 or so for Foxborough and NYC depending on the section) for any reasonable matchup. Maybe like Jordan/Algeria or Curacao vs. Ivory Coast in Philly or whatever if you want to just check off the bucket list.

.-.
The post draw lottery opens on 12/11 at 11am for individual matches.

I was able to get tickets to 3 west coast matches via the Visa resale lottery before they sold out. Still looking to get tickets to the second US group match vs Australia in Seattle. Got skunked in the random early lottery. Hopefully can get through next week.

According to FIFA they've sold 2M tickets so far out of about 7M seats. So, plenty of tickets still exist but they are ripping people off worse than any scalpers would. Direct purchase is still best if you can get them. The official resale is closed until the 15th. Unverified tickets are going for $1000 each for the match I need. It's going to be a real game of chicken during the run up. I see some places getting real cheap or real expensive. Everyone's mileage is going to very, but if you're willing to see some tiny nations face off, you should be able to get them.

On another note, I just got the official parking pass quote for LA. $300. Now, that is about what they charge for the Rams, but I'm not paying that for parking. I'll do a personal shot by shot remake of "Falling Down" as the Mike Douglas character first or risk public transit.

That’s actually a sneaky good match up

Every Mc, Mac, and Mag, within 4000 miles is going to be at that game, plus every Moroccan that can get past DHS.

Morocco is good, like potential finalist good. Scotland is not, but they are extremely happy to be here.

If Turkiye wins it's playoff the US group is 3 rematches from the last 6 months. With a full squad the US should be expected to win the group, which is what I'm hoping for ticketwise.

I've got tix for France/Norway in Foxboro and France/Senegal, Germany/Ecuador, and Norway/Senegal all in New Jersey. Not bad for picking blindly in the FIFA online blackhole.

I got tix for me and friends. Some how all of us got at least one top team, which is nice. I got England/Panama. Friends got Germany, France or Brazil in each of their games.

.-.
This World Cup is going to be an unmitigated disaster.
I mean it’s going exactly how we all expected. I remember in 2018 when the USA won the bid there was a soccer journalist that said “save now” for 2026. He wasn’t kidding.

Worried about the lack of parking and attempt to ban tailgating? I suspect 2/3 of the parking at Arrowhead/Kauffman will be an "experience zone" behind a fence. But given the location I don't know how people are even getting there unless on buses. At Gillette 3/4 of the official parking will be unavailable.

I got offsite parking at Gillette, so will be able to tailgate. Somebody mentioned FIFA would even limit in stadium beers to its sponsor brands. If so, that will cause riots among Americans expecting local craft beers and not mass produced swill.

So yes, it could be a disaster. FIFA needs to accept that the USA has its own cultural norms and it can't treat our venues like others.

FIFA really is the worst. Here are the issues I'm having:
  • I bought 3 games for me and 5 games for friends. I wanted to transfer the games to the friends. It's impossible to do. The tickets are not where FIFA says they should be. I found a back-door way to find the tickets (which actually had seat assignments), but there's no way to transfer them from there.
  • I guess I should've sprung for Cat 1. I bought Cat 2 and they are towards the half-way line, but WAY up. Like 3rd to last row on one of the games.
  • No tailgating at Metlife? Ok, I guess. No parking at all? That's crazy, but I live on a train line. Now there's rumors it may be $100 to take the train!!! NJ Transit trains from Secaucus to Metlife are not typically transporting the whole stadium to events. Even with extra trains, it's going to be chaos.
  • I bought the games expecting to go to all. But part of me now just wants to just sell all the tickets. But I definitely have to bring the family to at least one of them. I have Round of 16 tix in Philly. Maybe I'll keep those even though it's less convenient. If I sold all three games at the current rate it could help pay for some of the kids' college expenses!

@ZooCougar reports are KC is doing a great job job. Free trips from KCI to downtown on buses. Then cheap ($10?) trips to Arrowhead. Smart. There’s no transit system and getting people to downtown/plaza/union station area will pay dividends. Just need to get them to the venue.

Providence is wisely trying to lure visitors away from Boston. No official fan events but they are planning to subsidize travel and to keep bars open like two hours later than normal.

This has been a bucket list item of mine for a long time. When the US was announced as host, I was committed to being there. Though I have at times through this process tried to force myself to question the value of it all given how poorly FIFA has run this, I regret nothing.

I have tickets to 4 matches, and have worked my way through scheduling, contingencies, lodging, parking, etc., and here are my personal judgements.

1. FIFA is as a corrupt organization as there is. The amount of grift, patronage and flat incompetence is stunning. They are literally acting as both sponsor and scalpers. Make Ticketmaster/Live Nation look like the Boy Scouts.

2. Tickets: They never planned on making this accessible or to prioritize actual soccer fans (especially supporter groups). From the numerous scam lotteries, the ridiculous markup, resale fees, manufactured scarcity, performative tier ticket structure all lead to one thing, super expensive tickets.

Last night I received another insider invite from US Soccer (3rd one now), that FIFA is providing new tickets to one of the US group matches. (I guess Paraguay isn't selling well). I've been a pretty decent donor over the years and have yet to be able to acquire any tickets through that portal. Most of mine came from the first Visa lottery than was relatively unpublished.

I'm now convinced that FIFA is still holding back a ton of tickets (not just to sponsors and partners). I'm also convinced that FIFAs plan is to sell as many expensive tickets as it can before it dumps whatever is left to fill the stadiums. I'm glad I have my tickets and still regret nothing but it's about as unfan- friendly as it gets.

3. Parking and Transit: While I understand an expanded security zone would reduce parking and discourage tailgating, they took this way too far as to imply what they really want is to sell more pregame hospitality and concession packages. Talk about low class. If security were really the top issue. They would be more proactive about getting people to and from for as little as possible. NJ transit is telling the truth. All of these east coast football stadiums have game day transit options. They are special services that cost extra to run. More when you are pushing a bunch of away fans to use them. If it's going to cost NJ transit $48M to run the trains for all the games at Met Life then FIFA should be paying for it.

Fortunately for me Seatte and San Jose are directly on an existing commuter rail. As for LA, I found an off site lot that isn't charging $500 to park. For true fans the WC is it, but I'm not sure how many fans of other teams are going to fly here for these games. Again, points to a ton of last minute ticket dumping or a ton of empty seats.

4. The government: without making this political the organizing committee has been MIA from the start. Anyone know who is running this? One is Matt Cocker, the US Soccer Sporting Director who just quit to join Saudi Arabia. I don't think he's quitting if he thinks WC is going to be spectacular. The other guy, Andrew Giuliani, the famously annoying, empty headed son of Rudy Guliani. Perhaps explains why no one is standing up to FIFA on these matters.

I feel that I've done all I can to mitigate these things so, I'm going to enjoy the 3 weeks planned and hope the USMNT is able to keep up with my schedule but they did not make these easy and it did cost a ton to make it all happen.

Good job dealing with all that . Especially since USMNT can't seem to punch their way out of a wet paper bag.

Not worth the hassle to see a mediocre team against the world.

On the train things there's an interesting new message from FIFA that said free travel was expected or required to be provided to all ticket holders. But here's the thing, the Feds don't run those transit systems in the U.S. I think the FIFA expectation that the "host country" considers that additional cost and covers it doesn't work when you run into state run transit agencies in the USA. They haven't been reimbursed for any of this. They didn't sign any contracts with FIFA. Mass is in the same boat, having put $35M into upgrades for this and also the cost of the extra trains.

That's in line with what the NJ Gov said. It's going to cost NJ $48 million for all the extra trains, overtime, etc. If FIFA doesn't want that to fall on the attendees they can share some of the $11 billion plus that they are making. As someone that lives in NJ I'm good with that. As someone that has tickets to two games at Metlife, I'm less happy.

EDIT: Just read The Athletic article linked by HuskyHawk. Wow! Talk about arrogance! I'm all for Sherrill playing some hard ball.
