.....We suck at it, we always have. It has never been a point of emphasis on Calhoun's teams. He coaches pro set screens and curl cuts.
It just isn't our playing style, we will never be confused with the big country reeves ok state team who fed the post every trip and sometimes 2-3 Times on one trip if it came back out.

We will not be a traditional post based team so AO and AD have to crash the glass and finish those lobs.

Feeding the post is a whole different mindset than what these kids are used to.

The other thing is that when we do get it in there no one but AD ( except against Cincinnati) finishes. That will make the guards think twice about getting it in there.

We are who we are. I still think this team will have something to say.

I agree but only to a point. Feeding the post isn't just an issue with UConn it's everywhere. The game has changed and very few kids are naturally gifted passers because scoring is the trend. Knowing where the defense is stronger behind your post player by a quick glance in order to get it to your teammates strongside is the key as we know and the fact is from HS, AAU and on they don't care or teach it all that much. Add to that it's an art, somewhat natural in relation to being a good, solid passer. Actually Deandre Daniels looks like he knows where to throw it and so does Boatright.

The key for UConn is they don't have a gifted post player. AD still sets up weakly, feet too close, not hammering back on his guy and demanding of the ball so the actual target is hardly ever clear. AO can't catch the ball no matter where it's thrown and always ends up going left for whatever reason. If you don't think JC and the staff aren't working hard to make them better you're wrong. It takes time. AD played for the last few years running up and down the court being the man, with little need to post up in order to command the game. AO missed 3 very good passes against Cincy the other night which would have resulted in easy looks................if I'm a guard why would I give up a jumper or a pass to another wing to throw away an opportunity to get a shot??

Bigs need to prove themselves and soon or else there will be no inside game and we will depend on the perimeter all year long!!

I agree the team struggles with it ... but they fed the post pretty well in the Okafor and Adrien years.

AJ Price was a really good at coordinating getting himself into position to make a pass at the right time to get the ball to the player in the right spot. Sometimes he did this by what seemed like a little "over-dribbling" as he waited for the play to develop. I think that Bazz is trying to do this, but often doesn't make a pass even when he could (then starts over again).

It's surprising how incredibly rare it is for a guard to pass the ball to the screener after a pick and roll. I imagine that it might be somewhat harder for our smaller guards, but it just can't be as hard as they act like it is. John Stockton certainly had no trouble despite being somewhat vertically challenged. Also, I wish that Jeremy could keep his head up more when he dribbles as he often does not see the man breaking open. But, these kids are sophomores and will not be finished products.

Third feeble or misguided attempts at feeding the post were a big part of our loss to Cincy: AD feeding to AO with a pass that is catchable but a little too low and AO fumbles it out of bounds, AD making a good feed to RS but in a bad position in between 3 Cincy players, so he loses the ball and JLamb making a cut somthat he is absolutely open from 8 feet but instead of shooting the floater he forces it in an attempted alley-oop to AD. Two other passes to the rim AD mishandled and missed dunks, the latest with under two minutes to go...killers to our chances.

Actually, TO and NG are pretty good at feeding the post when the post players get into good position

Bingo. Bazz doesnt even attempt to dump it down low. It doesnt have to be a major part of our offense ala when we had Okafor, Adrien etc but you have to at least attempt it once in a while to keep the d somewhat honest.

This team is too heavy on the 3 through 5 positions, way too light on the 1/2. This thread is on point - no Uconn team has been great about feeding the post ala NBA style offense and it's never been a steadfast piece of the offense. What moves this offense is guards that can penetrate and take their man off the dribble and create in the lane. This team only has Boatright that can do that - Shabazz is nifty, but he's just not quick enough or makes strong enough moves in the lane to do that.

The college game is a guards game - so as stacked as this team looks at the 3-5, it just looks like it's not enough to make up for the shortage at the first two spots. Look at the Cinci game, where the 4 guard roster dominated.
