You beat me to it. It's a tough reality to face, but not all portal recruits work out or will thrive and excel like a Tristen Newton or Cam Spencer. Cade Tyson has been a flat out bust and I remember him being on the top of the portal recruiting rankings.

I have been a big supporter of Aidan Mahaney and I think the kid can play, and I really hate to say it, but I think the coaching staff botched it with him. Thinking they could convert him to a PG almost looks like hubris on their part. I remember seeing him in the handshake line after the Maui games and his facial expression looked like a kid that completely lost his confidence. Even with Hurley and his staff being the #1 coaching staff in the country, IMO, they are not going to get everything 100%. Thank the Basketball Lords Nick Timberlake chose Kansas, whew (wipe sweat from my forehead)-that was a big miss by Hurley and his staff.

Would have loved to been in the room when they were deciding on him. The one thing about the kid is that he feels kinda brittle mentally as he always seems to need reinforcement, looks down. Applaud him for the bravery in making the move, but man he just doesn’t feel like the kind of kid designed for this. Versus a Joey C who just had natural uninhibited shot hunter qualities. I wonder how much of DHs comments around having to coach this team differently has to do with the portal adds.

I stand by the assumption that last years portal cycle was distracted and a little rushed with all the B2B hoopla.

Hubert Davis has to be gone after this season, no?

They have a national championship game appearance and a 1 seed in two of his 4 years. That's probably still good enough to get a 5th year.

They had a weird roster issue at center this year. Couldn't get anyone in the portal. if that was Hubert's fault (like he was loyal to Jalen Washington at the expense of better options), then maybe you do let him go. If it was an NIL issue, then it would be difficult for the AD to let him go knowing they failed him.

Capel had more talent last year. Bub went 1st round, Hinson is in G League. None of these guys going pro next year in US.

But, if the point is Capel has decent talent and has his team playing well below its capability, agreed. As I said before, Danny would have these guys 2nd or 3rd in ACC with the same roster. Leggett and Lowe would probably be 2nd/3rd team all-ACC under Hurley. Under Capel, they are simply enigmas.
