Unless they do something spectacular in the Big 12 tourney, I'm not seeing why Houston belongs anywhere near the discussion for either the final #1 or top #2 seed. Becoming less and less worried about having to play a de facto road game against them in the South.

Fascinating stat this year - 8 out of the top 13 teams are also in the top 12 in rebounding margin this year. We're 50th in the country, so not too bad. The suggestion - top programs can physically dominate. Get big, get dominant, move away from the stretch stuff - things are swinging again. This is one of the least flukey stats out there - three point margins are filled with mid majors.

Agreed, they had their shot starting three games ago to claim it and they blew it completely. They were in the conversation then. Now it’s ISU or UConns to lose.

Illinois just lost to a dog poo ucla team almost giving up 100 points.

And one thing I’ll caution about Florida, yes they look strong now, once they got into league play. Personally I think the SEC sucks this year. Who is the 2nd best team in that league? Arkansas? Vanderbilt? Tennessee? Not exactly murderers row they are playing.

It’s why it’s so important to get that last 1 seed. Means we for sure avoid Duke Michigan Arizona who IMO are a cut above everyone else.

SEC is the highest rated conference. Arkansas and Tenn are talented.

Illinois has shown a ceiling as good as anyone - Purdue lost at UCLA as well. Traveling out west ain't easy. Was in OT in a game they should have won. They have defensive lapses, but can beat anyone. Roster is really good with Wagler, Boswell and 3 serbs.

I'm with you though - want to avoid those top three until it really matters. I usually look at rosters more than anything.

Florida and Illinois are good but i would be utterly shocked if either even made the final four.

Florida's guard play is so inconsistent and like it has many times already it will cost them. Illinois offense is the most efficient in the country but their defense is very inconsistent and they struggle in close games and unless your UCONN you will be in close games come tourney time,

That was also one of the main reasons we took those back to backs, it was kind of the elephant in the room that would get briefly mentioned now and then, then forgot about.
 
Houston may be playing themselves out of that 5th place too, which is where they need to be to get placed in the South bracket to give them home court advantage in the 2nd round.

they are def behind Iowa St now for sure.

I wouldn't be. Both have flaws, but also have upside runs. If you don't think theyre making it, then I guess you're imagining a Final 4 of 4 one seeds?

Someone up there made a good point on Underwood lacking the coaching chops, Golden has them. Florida has 6 losses, only 1 in last 13 games. 3 of them against top 5 teams.

Yup - starting our roster with Reibe next year really means we need to ensure whoever the 4 is, they can board.

Florida’s over-reliance on their front court and paint play is my main aversion to them being in the Final Four. The SEC, while a good conference, doesn’t present any similar challenge to their playstyle as far as I’m aware.

They have some head scratcher losses (WVU, Cinci, UCF) but a lot of big wins ISU, BYU, UA, Houston, TT, Tennessee.

Florida is good but their last 15 games the only teams they've beaten who are currently ranked are #17 Bama, #22 Tennessee, and #25 Vandy with losses to Missouri and Auburn. They also beat George Washington, St. Francis, Dartmouth, and Colgate during that stretch. The SEC has been really good at gaming the system. The BIg 12 and Big 10 are both clearly better than them if you use your eyeballs.

no, i could see Iowa St and Kansas making runs and i also think St Johns is extremely dangerous as well as Gonzaga being completely of the radar because they got the snot kicked out of them by Michigan and a bad loss at Portland

Almost feels like the Big 10 has a shot to finally get a title this year, but the Big 12 is really good too.

They have been pounding them though - and its a much better league schedule than we've played. So it's hard to call it both ways. Florida has a NC front court, and 4 man guard rotation where they'd need their two primary guards to play well. They had a chance to win at Cameron.

The SEC has a lack of strength at the top, good in the middle and bottom. So yes, it does kind of game for the very good teams.

I still like Illinois & Florida, and I'd stick StJ in there as a team outside of the top couple seeds that can make a run. That team has come a long way in establishing an identity since November.

Michigan/Ill and KU/Ariz could shake some things up this week in the polls. Fla at Texas and at home vs Arkansas will be interesting. UConn has to keep stackin' Ws

That's the most important thing, IMO. It's interesting reading the scenarios that people post about this team losing and that teaming winning, but in terms of UConn none of that matters if UConn doesn't address and fix their weaknesses and play consistently good defense.
