February General CBB Discussion Thread

We simply need to get a lot better and more physical/athletic at the 3 and 4. Alex will be gone and Hurley can't focus on replacing him with another slow guy who is an awesome connector. AK is unique, we'll just end up having another slow guy who doesn't bring all of AK's great intangibles. Jaylin and Ross simply haven't shown nearly enough to be considered starters next season.

You don't have to be athletic everywhere but you have to be athletic and intimidate people in some places. '24 wasn't overly athletic but Clingan intimidated everyone, Castle was a freak and Samson was good for some highlight reel dunks and blocks. '23 Clingan intimidated everyone in his minutes and Jackson was a freak.

We aren't intimidating anyone this year, we aren't getting out and running and we aren't dunking on people. That gives us very little room for error. We have to win by outexecuting the other team in the half court and lately we have to do that at such a high level because our defense has fallen apart.

As it stands now with the players we think we have coming back and the two freshmen coming in we will again be unathletic and unintimidating unless we bring in a couple of elite physical athletes.
Couldn’t agree with you more here. Thats where the current movement is going, as shared.

You need to have vertical players at 2 places on the floor between the 2 and 5. It works better and it’s certainly a lot more fun.

I want to but I just can’t pull the trigger because it’s too easy to make him look like an idiot
A double edged sword for sure. Plus every thread is packed with people responding to ignored content. Annoying even when blocked

I think they know that, which is why Caden Pierce isn't on next year's roster.

I started a portal watch a month ago. I'm not one to watch a lot of lower end, or mid major hoops. I wonder what the PF lot looks like. A kid like Ajayi at Butler would be nice. I know he's not available, but someone like that.

Anybody see this kid? 6'9", 280. Looks the part.

Transfer Portal for the win! ... if Cronin behaves like that in public, imagine what he does in private

"Cronin joked that Jamerson "asked me for $10,000 more in NIL because of that."

He went on to speak glowingly of Jamerson, who played three seasons at the University of San Diego before transferring to UCLA last summer for his final year of eligibility. Jamerson has started once in 26 games, averaging 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 11.3 minutes. He was unsuccessful in walking on at Michigan State earlier in his career.

"Steve is everything that's good about college basketball," Cronin said. "He's everything that I believe in about college basketball. That being said, I'm trying to protect, like I take it really seriously. Our guys don't get techs. We're not taking guys out in the air."

Cronin said he's sometimes too candid in his comments. He has complained about travel and tipoff times since UCLA joined the Big Ten last season and been harshly critical of his players at times after games. After the Michigan State loss, he also had a testy reply to a reporter's question about Spartan fans.

"I have to do a better job of this, that in this climate, you've got to be careful with what you say. I'm a good fit here because I know I'm not bigger than the brand and the brand matters here, the school matters. The last thing I want to do is bring negative publicity to our school," Cronin said.

"I apologize to our people -- school, students, everybody in our community -- because it's important. These jobs, you gotta raise money, you gotta be friends with donors, I mean I believe in all that stuff."

That's basically one big ticket player. The difference between us getting a Yaxel, or not.

The question then becomes, what is better, one core stud out of the portal, or hanging onto guys like Stew/Ross/Solo? BYU went all in on three players and it hasn't worked well.

I know they're not all disclosed, but it would be interesting to see a chart that shows NIL ROI in college. Who is playing above their NIL and below.
Serious question: why do you post on this board?? You have a hard on for every team not named UConn. Your takes are quite literally the worst this board has ever seen.

Do you have a complex that just requires constant attention?? Like my 8 year old stepdaughter?? Are you a closet fan of another program??

I honestly don’t understand how one single poster can consistently be SO stupid and so wrong on just about everything they post.

Perhaps the University employs you to just antagonize people so much that they are forced to respond, thus increasing engagement??

I have no idea but I’d love if someone would put together a Boneyard meet up just so I could punch you in the face.

The funny thing is you two are basically on the same level of complete disaster.

I’m sure if you met me you’d do an about face fast. I’d be happy to meet up with you at a game for you to go for it. I’ll buy you a beer when you decide it’s not worth it.

I enjoy provocative non vanilla convo - you can choose to ignore. Not even sure why that posts bothers you, it’s raising a hypothetical.

Hell Zanetto these days raises similar points. Do they employ him?

Not exactly the best argument to make for yourself when the only reason Zanetto keeps getting podcasts is he gets engagement and views from being completely insufferable and dumb
Interestingly I have found his stuff a lot more interesting if late than the Dan Hurley cultlike stuff he was featuring before. I don’t listen that often but I’ve found his recent stuff to be more thought provoking.

Bizarre performance from KU today at home to Cincy, wonder if they got caught looking ahead at Houston or if all the Peterson noise is starting to fester. These past few days is really the first time it's gone mainstream and out of the cbb bubble.

It looks like they did get caught looking ahead. They are getting blown out by Cincy even with Patterson playing good minutes.

I really wish we got Baba Miller. He would be starting for us and would change the whole look of our team. He's a million times better than Jaylin and Ross.
