That is a good point. If that's the case, after a season like this, it makes me wonder how long Hurley is in this landscape. It's become pretty clear it was talent all along, not the system. Case in point Cam, Steph, Cling. You have three starting NBA players on one roster, they're going to look good in any system. Every year that goes by, the NIL/portal seem to solidify more and more in how top players move around.

You're just not going to overcome talent shortages when there are teams like UM rolling out NBA sized front courts.
It's going to be really hard to win if there is a major gap is funds. Even if that's 2-4mm.

This year has a weird smell to it. Hurley is fiery, but less so. Then you have a couple players who seem slightly apathetic.

Eight will prove to be too thin a crowd for college basketball's $10 million club. Based on a variety of sources, schools believed to be operating in the realm of this golden tier are:
  • Arkansas
  • BYU
  • Duke
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Louisville
  • Michigan
  • North Carolina
  • St. John's
  • Texas Tech
These programs either have $10 million committed already or are easily capable of reaching that total in roster-building efforts by the end of this year's transfer cycle. They are 2025's whales of the portal, loading up on most of the priciest players and drastically inflating the market in the process.

You call it drama, I call it conversation via tea leaves. Let's see over the next few years how much the top 10 mirror this list.

Maybe you should go into hibernation for another 10 years because you think UConn won't be good again. Lol

I'll let you in on a little secret, UConn was never playing as much as other schools and we won 6 championships in the past 25 seasons we were eleigible for the tournament. Twice as many championships as any other school.

Yeah, historically no one can match us. On the go forward, I'm simply wondering how the money factor impacts our chances.

I'd say Duke is firmly in the mix. All generally to 20 schools. $$ correlation is definitely there.

Money has always been a factor.
 


Sticky because they can't put a B10 or B12 team with another, so then we are left with Duke or UM. We'd obviously want Duke.

Also, the idea that the system doesn’t matter and those guys would be great anywhere has been proven wrong thousands of times throughout sports history.

If that’s true then I can assume you won’t be commenting on lineups, sets, defensive strategies, end of game strategies, inbounds plays, teams being motivated to play, etc, correct?

Well, 95% may be a bit high. Let's call it 75%. It's easily the core part of the job. Do we all think Scheyer is a great coach?

He was literally on perhaps the greatest AAU team of all time. It was 5 future NBA players and himself. Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Eric Gordon, Josh McRoberts, and Daequan Cook.

It's pretty funny that you're calling someone else ignorant when you didn't take 3 seconds to figure out if the guy actually knows anything about AAU or not.

Yeah but Nelson used to shoot baskets at his local Y in Connecticut and he's really into corporate HR departments.

Nah dude, the guy that’s famous for being a white kid benchwarmer on a famous AAU team and famous college team knows nothing about ball or AAU. Also the kid who grew up in Indiana cant comment on white kids in Indiana cuz … ya gotta pretend to be offended about something.

Also his mom is an Indiana HOFer from her time playing at Purdue. I guess he’s somewhat familiar with the topic.

It’s been 1 year and we were very close to that number, can’t see why we wouldn’t be able to join them. Even then, only 2 of those teams are definitively better than us across the season.

Dusty May & Michigan are what we call an outlier. In the past few years, the best teams, including this year, have typically been teams that combine talent, retention and the portal. The fact that a mercenary team happens to be the most successful is more than likely coincidental, I would not use his recruiting philosophy as the baseline for roster-building.

Besides, Silas didn’t come here for cheap

It will also be interesting to see if May continues to build his team through the portal or start bringing in HS talent.

It makes sense to utilize the portal as a new coach to bring in quick talent and your own guys.

He’s got McKinney first off the bench. Looks to be recruiting in the 20s, buying into PT and second year starting. Lloyd has Aristolde same thing. Scheyer had Ngongba, Evans.
These are all top kids, not 70 plus. So you get great frosh to be instant impact and then 20-30s off the bench as second year starters.

LJ Carson was a recruit who got minutes for them last year and he’s continuing to play a solid role for them this year.

He wasn’t even ranked. It’s not about rankings as much as it’s about having good evaluations.

They have a top 4 class this year with two top 50ish commits at both forward spots to complement those guards it seems. Will be interesting to see how they get inserted into the lineup.

He’ll stick them on the bench for a year, may/may not pull them into rotation and let them develop for a year and see what he has. That while he goes back to the portal to get the best starting talent he can.

You should really become a Golden Eagles fan.

The rumor is that we're in the next tier down (about $8 million total). Those numbers will only continue to ratchet up.
