I kinda miss those Pitt battles with Jamie Dixon as the coach.
I remember thinking that Jamie made a bad decision when he left Pitt for TCU. How wrong I was. He returned to TCU where he played and the Big12 is better league than Big East or ACC.

Jamie didn't want to play ACC-style hoops. He enjoyed BE play.

Back in the late 00s I thought Dixon would end up as one of the next big time coaches. He’s done a good job but doesn’t seem interested in aiming for a more prestigious opportunity.

I always liked Dixon, certainly more than Evans and Howland. Perhaps the death of his sister Maggie at a young age changed his perspective about high pressure opportunities. Aside from that tragedy he appears to have a good life. But I do miss playing Pitt in the Big East.

Yes, we should be ahead of ISU now.

The problem is that if Houston is a #1 seed, they can't be with a Big XII #2 seed anyway.

Whatever the S Curve says, we're looking at #2 in the South with Houston (true road game) or #2 in the East with Duke (top 3 team).

I wouldn't expect Houston to be a #1 with their remaining schedule.

If they win a bulk, they’re fine with a loss or two. Just as easy to make it work for them as against them.
Depends on exactly how their 3 games vs Iowa St, Arizona, and Kansas pan out - worst thing would be they all beat up each other a little while we have to beat Villanova and St. John's else be punished in the rankings.

If we win out like we should we’ll be fine. Control of destiny.

Pitt was finished when they left the Big East. They had a heavy NYC pipeline, which vanished when they were not playing New York area teams. They became just another program trying to recruit New York/New Jersey, and Pittsburgh was not exactly a premier destination. Pittsburgh high schools don't produce a lot of basketball talent, and west of Pittsburgh is Big 10 country and a lot of competition for even second and third tier players.

I thought that Pitt could make a bit of a comeback in the NIL/House era given that they are in a city with lots of corporate sponsors and wealthy individuals, and Pitt has a big endowment. Maybe the next coach will be more successful.

They can't even keep top kids in their backyard at this point (Meleek T), nevermind NYC. They feel like a program that has hit the abyss with no return.

That Solo guy for UConn should drive to the cup more.
Interesting stat - James is basically 4x what our top guy is. This is the exact stat that supports our lack of getting to the line, and the constant FT disparity.

Win out? Beat St. John’s twice and win the BE championship? Yeah, we’ll be better than fine. For confidence and team frame of mind the next with them is important. If they win out they will jump us in the seeding I believe no matter what we both did early season and that would cause stomach acid for me personally.

We need to win the home game vs StJ. The BEC would likely be after they firm up the seeding. I think it's hard to earn 1 in theory if we were swept by a team that had no strong OOC wins. That said, three of our biggest competitors for the last 1 lost last night in games they were favored. Right now it's all about Houston.

A not much talked about frosh - this guy is a man. Add another one to the stack. Drew seems to do less with more than any other coach out there. He's got two first round pick on that roster along with Carr, and they aren't even on the bubble.

pitt and cuse were the two programs I most wanted to see back in the Big East. both could be premiere programs in the conference rather than northern outliers in the duke-unc conference. now they can both continue to die on the vine

Pittsburgh is the link between BE East and BE West and recruiting would certainly be much better
Cuse has a big NY following of course and the same recruiting benefit of being in the BE

I don’t believe mocks when they say this kid isn’t at least a lottery pick. They’ve consistently had him in the late teens-20s.

Is Scott Drew a top coach anymore? It seems like every year he gets his one diaper dandy to build around, but never a complete roster and one that plays all that well.

Purdue about to put this game away. Nebraska may have peaked early. Tape is out.
Rob Wright screwed him over. I can’t see how he wasn’t tampered with given that he had signed a contract to come back.

I think he’s a really good, positive coach - kind of like Shaka in that respect - and, like Shaka, is having a hard time navigating the shifting coastline.
