How about Jerry Garcia? He died a very old, very burnt out man aged 53 in 1995. He's obviously known for the Grateful Dead, but here he is with the Jerry Garcia Band (singing a great Dylan tune)

Bit of trivia Jimi Hendrix opened for The Monkees in 1967

Also Mike Nesmith quit the group I think sometime in the 1970s - another unrelated music note is his mother invented a liquid which allowed errors in typewritten documents to be corrected without retyping the whole document - I knew it as Whiteout - made the Nesmith family very wealthy

Lead singer Marty Balin and guitarist Paul Kanter of the Airplane are gone.

Both are prominent on this superb song - Balin's voice interwoven with Grace Slick's is ethereal:

Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys has passed at age 82....he was their master song visionairy:
