On this board? A bunch are saying he's a bad coach and has to go.
I am not a fan of the 3 3 5. I think Brock is an okay defensive coach that unfortunately got 11 players with no arms. If you want to blame him for anything it is him and Mora did a bad job evaluating defensive players especially at DLine.

I am not but you are kidding yourself in a violent sport where your career can end in one play that you should not maximize your earnings. Particularly running backs who take so many hits and have a very shorten professional career even if they make the NFL,
Yeah well some will and some won't, Durell Robinson left and disappeared and Cam stayed and flourished. There are lessons in both scenarios.

And guess what both could have been the correct decision for each player.

Exactly. Not everyone is gonna bolt. Some will some won't. That's my point.
As somebody becomes a better player for you, you will have to increase his compensation. That is why I said you need to make wise decisions with your limited resources. My original point still holds. I think we spent most of our NIL on the offensive players. And it showed since we had a terrific offense. Unfortunately with limited funds left we could not get good defensive players particularly DLine from the portal.

I don't know. We got the AAC DPOY at LB he didn't pan out. We got safeties from Penn State and Wisconsin who never beat out McClean and Mollette. We got a DL from Nebraska. The starting OL is mostly home grown. Hoeh starts and Chan started some games.

Did we spend more on offense probably cause there were more players needing retention. Continuing to build out NIL and revenue sharing is going to be important.

.-.
The way I looked at it we spent a significant amount to retain our offensive players and it paid off having a great offense. The bad was I think there was little money left over to go after defensive players especially DLine who are expensive to obtain.
Likely paid Bell a hefty sum. Evers more than most. The rest of the offense stayed. So D got the short shrift maybe.

D line was small. LB’s didn’t pan out except Parham. Where was King? He killed us last year.

I think the people calling for Brock's head are misguided. Its been evident since the 4th Q of the Syracuse game, that the personel on the D took a step back from the previous year.

Even with that we are near the top in sacks. A lot of that has to do with Brock's creative blitzes. We also make way too much of the 3-3-5 scheme. We often bring in a LB to the line of scrimmage to make it more of a 4 man front defensively.

The fact that the team is 9-3, with this defense is a positive to me because they have been opportunistic in spots and closed out the Duke game with well timed blitz up the middle.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I threw this in here.

What they are going to have to do better this off season is identify players who FIT this system. Word is T. King isn't a great fit for this system, which I find shocking since he was AAC DPOY and absolutely shredded us last year.

I would expect that should a change at DC be made, we are likely going to move off the 3-3-5, but who knows.

I agree with you 100 per cent. We need better players on defense.

No one is expecting perfection. Is it too much to ask to keep a 3 win team under 600 totals yards of offense? That’s not a huge request. Mediocre would have been sufficient yesterday. Thank goodness our Offense got it done. With a mediocre D we might have a better record.
Reality is that the defense has been very inconsistent. They had some pretty solid games. Held Air Force to its lowest score of the season. I thought they played quite well against Duke. And except for one play we’re pretty dominant against BC. Awful at FAU and Delaware. Syracuse was the season performance in a single game. Good for 50 minutes awful for the last 10.

To some extent I think it is the system. I hated Brown’s defense too. These aggressive attacking defenses are a disaster if you don’t get to the quarterback. You always leave somebody free. But I also think you need the right players to make it work. We didn’t have the linemen to do the job this year.

I’m not sure we had the D linemen this year to make any system work.

Smiley was to be a big part of it and either he was hurt or played hurt. Losing Vincent Carroll-Jackson has hurt at NG. Trent Jones not playing most of the season also hurt. Our depth guys were a huge drop off.

It felt like there was an injury timeout every game for Smiley. He was banged up all year.

Also Smiley got too lean if there is such a thing. This was a kid that played at 300lbs at UVA and 245ish, now. Probably 265ish would have been ideal. He has been a consistent disruptor but has been banged around quite a bit. Also yes, Jones looks like he would have been the best DL had he played more.

The conclusion is the coaches whiffed at obtaining good DLine personnel. You can blame bad evaluating or not enough NIL or both for the issue. To be considered a good DLine at a P4 level you need 2 deep for DLine. G5 level one is considered good. Dline are a hot commodity and are becoming expensive in today’s college football. Supposedly QBs and elite DLine/DE that are disrupters are the most coveted players in the transfer portal.

Old Guy a bit confused....Joe F was criticized in the past for not being good enough. Now getting votes for Heisman. Online not that good according to some in the past, but 9..3 for 2 years. Special Teams pretty good. Field Goal kicker Good. That leaves secondary and Dline and coaches to take the blame for 3 losses, that were very close to wins. As a Huskie fan, I wonder if they will ever have a team that is excellent in all aspects of the game of football. In today's world that takes allot of $$$$$$$$ and some luck. Players like Bell and Edwards who put "team" ahead of "I" are not going to come along often in todays world. It is a violent game and injuries can end one's career on any one play. $$$$$ counts for most and their families. We love being MONDAY MORNING QB's. But if you look at the turnover of P4 coaches, Kelly being owed 50 million, and many more getting the $$$$$ and boot, I think overall, UConn had a great season in all aspects of the game. Yes, they could have gone 12 and 0, but it wasn't that long ago when back to back 9..3 season would have made most fans very happy and a bowl will over NC putting the frosting on the cake. Love all the comments and understand the negative thoughts. BUT, BUT for the Old Guy, I am VERY VERY happy with the team Mora has put together a long with the AD. Thanks for all your comments.....10 and 2 next season! Enjoy your feast....Old Guy!
