FAU Post Game Thread

I remember the sentiment when they got Brock that because he coached in the SEC, he was operating on a higher plane. Us ignorant small time New Englanders could not possibly understand the SEC concepts he was about to unleash.

Looks like that wasn’t the case.
Nah ... I think someone nailed it. They had to spend a lot on Bell, Fagnano, Edwards, Brown and others. Not much left for the D which had the bulk of the openings. The pendulum will swing this next portal period. Brock stays.

.-.
I sort of agree. But outside Duke there will probably not be one FBS team that is above 500 for the season that UConn beat.
If there is any potentially bowl eligible team you’d want to beat on the schedule for credibility, it’d be Duke fwiw

Glad tour not the HC.
Been around since the beginning. Many seem to have an uncanny need to defend the indefensible. We lived through 13 years of that. There is no good reason we can’t have even a moderately capable defense.

Something I firmly believe to be true:
A win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win is a win.

That was tested today, I doubted it, but I rolled up my sleeves, did some research, and yes, it is still true.

And a pretty good win. No, FAU is not Ohio State but it's a decent team in the AC. FAU lost to Navy by 10 and Tulane by 11. Had FAU won today, they'd be playing ECU next week, both teams with 5 wins shooting for a bowl game. Offense found a way to win it today which was freaking awesome!!

Thank you, thank you, glad to see there are some on here who understand. As I said in the chat, Brock was a superstar last year, we were afraid we were going to lose him. He gets 10 new starters on D. Yes they clearly missed in the portal, the players are not the same caliber as last year. But now according to many on here, he is now a terrible coach and it has nothing to do with the personnel. I don't care if we got the best D coordinator in the NFL, he couldn't perform miracles with this D. I hope many on here are not alum, because I am shocked at the amount of haters and the personal attacks just because you don't agree. If you are UConn grads it is a disgrace that you act like that.
Calling Brock a superstar after last year is bit of a stretch. I mean, we gave up 42 points to UMass . We were just used to having putrid defenses that seeing an average one seemed like a miracle.

Yes, we lost a lot of talent from last year's defense and yes, we missed a bunch with the transfer class (which Brock should bear some of the blame as I doubt he didn't have any say in who we recruited), but there's an overall scheme issue here. To play the 3-3-5 and be successful, you need top of the line talent. Newsflash, we are never going to get 11 of those at UConn. It's much easier to hide the deficiencies on our defense when we play a more traditional scheme, instead we are asking them to do things they are not very good at.

Continuing to use the 3-3-5 severely limits the ceiling on our team, and if we want to continue the upwards trajectory of our program, that is a valid discussion to have, so spare me your puritan "true UConn fan" bs

Wonder if Mora would prefer a bowl later in the year to get more practice in or an earlier bowl so that he can hit the portal hard.

  • "Why can't we win better" is a much nicer place to be than "Why can't we win at all".
  • Messer getting behind everybody for that last td is mind boggling to me

What happened in the final 26 seconds to allow them to get to mid field that quickly (outrageously obvious face mask, weak pass rush, letting guys get behind them, etc) was even worse.

If not for Joey and the FAU kicker, I would be mumbling things to myself in bed right now.
But 9 wins is 9 wins and I feel good.

Actually Joe’s last drive, Cam’s run and all those clutch players… I think we’re forgetting how epic that was.

They could’ve folded up quite easily there.

Joe could have tried to squeeze the ball into Skyler instead of over throwing him on purpose… interception/game over…

That drive (like our D of not) was one for the ages!
Is there a replay available? My recording ended at the moment we started the winning drive!!!!

We had a long ago scheduled event to attend so I set the game to record, with the extra 30 minutes and then set the program shown following the game to record ........I didn't realize until I got to the end of 3 and 1/2 hours that the next event was Real Betis vs Girona at 10:05 AM tomorrow.
ESPN+ just showed it as the next program on 210-5 on DirecTV.

I looked on YouTube but only found several versions of highlights.

if you have espn plus this should work I hope ESPN United Kingdom - Serving Sports Fans. Anytime. Anywhere.

in general for games that were on espn if you do a search for 'watch' on the home page, click on it, go to 'schedule and replays' in the drop down menu, then the day the game was broadcast, then sport, etc. you should find it

the 'share' link in the vid doesn't work on the board. but if you navigate from watch, to schedule and replays, to Sat Nov 22 to college football it's there

When it went from 24-3 lead to 27-31 midway thru the 3rd I wasn't sure we'd be able to recover. Figured a monumental collapse from our defense would cost us another game. Fortunately, the greatest offensive trio UConn's ever seen, with help from Hansen (was awesome in the 2nd half) and Mel made huge necessary plays late in the game.
It really is an impressive feat for the offense to win 9 games with the defense we have.

Any scheme you run you need good DLine to have a legitimate defense. The better teams in college football are at least 2 deep on the DLine so they can rotate them into the game to keep the DLine fresh.

With offense. UConn won by putting more points on the board than FAU. I said for years that college football teams won with offense. The old "ground and pound" running game and keep the game low scoring with defense was a thing of the past. Easier to "level the playing field" by getting a hot gun slinging QB and a couple of good (very good), dependable receivers. A lot easier than trying to match up (position by position) against programs with more tradition and resources. Run the ball to complement a prolific passing attack. UConn needs to remember this going forward.
There used to be a meme floating around this board of a South Park character at a computer desk after watching some online smut. Part of me thinks you were in a similar situation when the game ended yesterday.
