FAU Post Game Thread

Imagine asking if having 30 seconds left on the clock was leaving too much time for the other team's offense and being completely serious.
It's nuts, right? I'm sitting here with my brother insisting we shouldn't be calling timeout with 40 seconds left because we really need to take it down to 15 seconds before we score. I reacted with an "um, okay, I guess" when we scored our TD at 00:26, and hoped that the three seconds the ill-advised kickoff return took would make a difference. I guess it did, but still, it only took them about 18 seconds to get the ball from their own 25 to the fringe of UConn's red zone. This is the margin of error we had with this wet tissue paper defense today.

No need to pile on with the thread-my two cents…Randy y2k is not ancient history enough that if he were coaching today, UConn would have lost 45-3. Look at the positives, UConn offense especially with running game with Mel brown back matches up well with a lot of conference teams for upcoming bowl game. Secondly, moras affect walking off the field was all u needed to see. Brock is a bargain basement dc-need to expand the coffers to replace him with quality and keep Sammis.

Mora's "affect walking off the field was all u needed to see?" What does that mean?

Shout out to the sideline UConn section when that kick went up, too much noise!

You should be fired for giving up nearly 700 yards as a DC. There is no excuse under the sun that allows that to happen to 3 win G5 squad. If I was the HC his bags would be packed tomorrow.
That team can score. You actually look at their game scores? I guess every D coordinator that they faced should be canned. This board us unbearable in the face of victory.

That last defensive sequence where FAU gained like 60 yards in 25 seconds might be enough to fire Brock for cause.

Might be the PTSD, but I don't think a 3-3-5 defensive scheme can be successful if you don't have 5 stars across the board.
I remember the sentiment when they got Brock that because he coached in the SEC, he was operating on a higher plane. Us ignorant small time New Englanders could not possibly understand the SEC concepts he was about to unleash.

Looks like that wasn’t the case.

I was thinking UConn should go for 2 after their last score because I was certain FAU would fly down the field into field goal range and OT would have been another L. Make the 2 point conversion and we probably win IF we keep them out of the endzone. Miss the 2 point conversion and we probably lose. It was a crap shoot either way.

That was the most disappointing win I have watched in a long time. The defense was terrible in tackling and just doing the basics.

I am glad they won, but the defense needs to do stairs and work on tackling the next couple of weeks after today's display.

Hey Bill, Memorial Stadium is long gone. I've run those steps. Maybe they are sent over to the North Eagleville Rd cemetery.

Wild game which I witnessed in person. Terrible defense and far too many holding, facemask and personal foul penalties.

Mel Brown’s run was a thing of beauty. I was sitting in that part of the end zone so he ran toward me and I witnessed his exquisite cut. Congratulations to the team and special props to Jioe, Bell and Cam.

Special teams was very good as I recall. Conor had that great punt that was downed at the one but unfortunately FAU scored on that pass on fourth down going 90 yards.

Brock did a great job last year because they had some players. This year, not so much. In the end you can scheme and teach but ultimately it all depends on a few players winning their assignment.
This!

The 3-3-5 did well against Duke. He then changed to a 4-3-4 to hold Air Force to a season low.

I believe that he doesn't have enough Jim's and Joe's for his X's and O's. But after winning 9 games twice in a row, I think Jim and Joe are on their way...

First gotta give FAU some love. They put on a great fight and that QB - WR combo was on fire. Messer is a great receiver.

After all the losing years my bottom line is always take the W and be mostly happy. That said we got some work to do. Defense has been a weak spot throughout the season and I still think it starts upfront. But this many yards allowed can't be just personnel. The coaches have to do some reflecting on how to stop the bleeding. I was standing along side the end zone on that fourth down thinking it wouldn't surprise me if they turned it into a score. Maybe not in one play but it seemed like the odds were pretty good. You either put your guys in a position to succeed or you don't. I have no idea what the answer is but that wasn't it.

A lot of things "happened" in this game that negatively impact one's cardiac rehab. The Fagnano fumble was a turning point that gave FAU momentum. Not that they were ever going to quit but the hill didn't look so high after they turned our points into their points. And then that split formation which looked like it had FAU outmanned if they had quickly gone to the left side. Instead we hesitated, looked confused and ran a clock saving abomination for FAU. It was the worst of all worlds.

Saving grace. A lot of people including Bowl committees will not have critically watched this game. And those that did may have been mildly entertained. We have players that make plays and do so in crucial moments. This gutsy fiasco doesn't hurt nearly as much as an "L" would and probably helps our reputation more than a bunch of obsessed knucklehead fans think. We lost 3 OT road games this year and were never blown out by anyone. Realistically we are a few players away from being what we want to be and the coaching needs to advance commensurately.

Given all of that I feel pretty happy tonight headed for an evening swim in Florida and a spot of Champagne. Congrats on another good season. Not great yet but the future is still unwritten. Glad I came down and met some good UConn fans and Alum. Soak it up.
