Fame is relative, apparently

Neither in my opinion. The amount of people who don't have basic knowledge of popular sports in North America is a lot larger than one may believe.
A few years ago my wife and I invited a couple, relatively new friends of ours, over for dinner and to watch the Super Bowl. They readily agreed but did inform us that they weren’t big fans.

It turned out they knew virtually nothing about football - I mean not even the basic fundamentals such as number of downs to make a first down, or what a touchdown was.

The tv was off before halftime and we had a splendid evening playing cards and board games.

And maybe this is another good reason for Aarom Rodgers to not have been selected as the new host.

Has anyone on the Boneyard ever been on Jeopardy?

I have not, although one of my friends growing up was, many years ago. He did really well although he did not win. It was fun watching him. As a kid I never thought of him as especially knowledgeable and smart but he probably didn’t think I was the sharpest knife in the drawer either.

Nope - years ago when I was a bit younger, a few folks thought I should audition. I was always smart enough to say "no" - because I might do really well in some categories but alas, in others I am completely ignorant. A very well rounded deep knowledge is needed. "General" knowledge and a few areas of deeper knowledge are not going to do it.

Let us not forget, Jeopardy is not taped on the same day it is shown. Those shows could have been taped months in advance to allow the family and friends of the contestants to make plans to attend the taping. It might have been taped before Paige took the WNBA by storm.
You think they are going to know anything about the WNBA?

A couple brothers I knew in high school were on Jeopardy. The oldest, I don't think won. The middle one won a couple games. Not sure if their younger brother was ever on it. (Didn't really know him, he was a few years younger.) Really smart family, IIRC their parents were college professors/teachers. Nerdiness increased from oldest to youngest.

I have not, but when I was at UConn another guy in the dorm and I used to watch it at 3 o'clock after our last class. There was no one else in the lounge. Then at 7 PM they would re-broadcast the same episode which pretty much everyone would watch after dinner. We would take turns answering the questions. People were like "you guys should go on!" neither of us ever bothered to explain the basis of our apparent encyclopedic knowledge.

Those people know all kinds of stuff. Stuff I never even heard of so..YEAH...its very possible they might. One knew who Caitlin Clark was so he knew a little.

Sorry that was rhetorical. No, they are not going to know anything about the WNBA.

I was on over 30 years ago. Very different game now, much more money involved. I lost.

My brother was on Ranger Andy when he was a Cub Scout :p
I was on the show with my best friend. It took me decades to accept it was Ranger Andy and not Ranger Randy though. I kept thinking the other people were wrong about that. Jeopardy is on hold for now. You feel a little old when these smart people are rattling off answers but then none buzz in on the easy (for most of the Boneyarders I’m sure) 60’s and 70’s common knowledge questions like old TV shows, etc. Actually considering some of their ages they do pretty well even on some of that old stuff.

Oppenheimer was The Bomb
Oppenheimer was The Bo
If you ever watched the movie or read the book about J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the smartest individuals who ever lived, someone who was also, skinny, nerdy and odd looking with his corncob pipe and pork pie hat, he was both adored and pursued by 100’s of women throughout his adult life.

Now Oppenheimer did have a really big bomb………
Smoking a corncob pipe and wearing a pork pie hat attracted 100's of women? Why didn't I know this during my college days? I thought I was Mr. smooth in a pair of penny loafers and a blazer. Big dummy. But I guess Oppenheimer swept them off their feet with his genius level brilliance, if not his bomb both something that at the time I was somewhat lacking! :)
