Surprised that UConn is mentioned in this.

Falling dominoes: Firing of Brown, Kiffin would have ripple effect

Looking in their crystal ball, CBS predicts that Alabama will hire "one of the first head coaches fired in December" Paul Pasqualoni as its defensive line coach and UConn will hire Louisville offensive coordinator Shawn Watson as their new head coach.

(Watson) knows how to coach the position. He's been a head coach at Southern Illinois (1994-96), an offensive coordinator Colorado, Nebraska, and Louisville. The 54-year-old Watson is ready to be a head coach again.

So P goes to Alabama just like he was headed to the Giants? Fat chance... I don't see how he could possibly be held in that high a regard.

So Watson comes here from Louisville and we already have Weist from Louisville. Sounds a lot better than PP and GDL.

Were PP goes I could care less as long as he goes!

um, no. it's an entertaining read, but you have to start scratching your head when you read Pat Fitzgerald leaving NW for USC. Like others, I find the rumors interesting and would love to know who is on WMs short list

Bu but I was told by folks on here that we are fishing in different pools and that the openings at Texas and USC would have no impact on our search. Hmm.....

What was said is that we will not be competing with USC and Texas over particular head coaching candidates. If it turns out that USC and Texas might want the Louisville OC, maybe we are mistaken. I think the point is made - Kirby Smart keeps passing over jobs because Saban says "wait for something better" - meaning that he would never come to UCONN, but might go to Texas or USC.

Yes, USC and Texas would not be looking at the same coaches as UConn, but the schools they likely take coaches from are more likely to be playing in the same pond as the Huskies. The coaching list is like a ladder, and you want to be as high up on that ladder as possible. Every team that moves into the search that is "ahead" of UConn means that Huskies will get that much shittier of a coach.

Let's cut to the chase. P goes to Bama now, Tide pays the buyout, TJ/HH take over as interim -- and GDL goes somewhere and gets a gig for the 41st year in a row. There is a reason why he has been employed that long, you know.

Seriously, if Warde hires the dreaded "search firm" for to replace P, it should be taken out of his pay. Whatever work the media doesn't do, the interwebs can cover the rest

The article said defensive line coach. That's not running the defense.

I don't know what world you guys live in, but unless you're an OC or DC, seldom do you pass up a BCS head coaching job. The amount of runs that a defensive line, oline, running backs, wr, etc. coach makes in college is amazing. It's an itinerant lifestyle. And to go from head coach at UCONN to a defensive line coach at alabama is downgrade. Smart the DC only makes $1.15 million.

Now, if a hotshot young oline coach has an inroad to a BCS dream job, he may demur...for a bit. But ceteris paribus he jumps. Even though Bama pays the most in college football, their line coaches make 25% of what Pasqualoni makes.

Just do the math. About 75 "BCS" schools. Each BCS school has an OC and DC and OL and DL coach. Throw in MAC head coaches, NFL assistants., position coaches, chip kelly FCS types.

There is a reason that BCS head coaches make $2 million a year and every coach worth their salt wants to be one.

So P goes to Alabama just like he was headed to the Giants? Fat chance... I don't see how he could possibly be held in that high a regard.

Former NFL QB Doug Williams was just fired after 2 games this year at Grambling St (0-2). He went 1-10 last year. His kid is even a QB on the team.

My point here is there is hope if we get our doors blown off by MD and Mich for Warde to make a change.

I hope Doug is not on Warde's shortlist. :D

If Saban hires PP for anything it will be as a dead weight on the OL sled. Any other position is a total impossibility

There will be so many more firings. The Louisville guy may not even be an option for us by then. Another reason to not wait for December 8.

I love statements like this. Regardless of how this has worked out, PP has accomplished more in his career than most BYers can ever hope to in their own.

If he chooses to work again (which he won't need to since he has money), he will go get a job at a salary that most people here would kill for (even as an assistant or position coach). That's called laughing on the way to the bank.

I have no argument with your point about PP's accomplishments relative to most BY'ers or even most of the population of the US. My observation was just a reflection of what I think is his value is at the present moment and what Saban looks for in his assistants.

The college AND NFL ranks are littered with guys that couldn't cut it as head coaches that have great reputations as coordinators or position coaches. Just because you can't be the top guy doesn't mean you don't have value. And I'm sure a lot of people would say "--I couldn't win at UCONN either - can't blame it on him"...do the top guys in this game blame it on him? or UCONN? curious.
