Fairfield Little League World Series

I’m not sure how it falls, but hopefully Ffld avoids the big Italian kid on SC, kid throws cheese. He looks 16 years old - early bloomer.

As for Taipei, is this the same team that won 17/27 LLWS back in the 70-90s? More of a militant baseball academy than an actual town/district?
they are right in line to get him (i didn't realize SC came back and beat S Dakota)
he'll be at full rest vs Fairfield (if SC wins vs Nevada)

College basketball is worse quality basketball than NBA and I prefer it to NBA and I would much rather watch UConn men's basketball than any NBA game.

I have zero interest in watching any average town little league but I always enjoy watching the best little league teams in the world. I enjoy watching it even more when Connecticut has the best/one of the best little league teams in the world.
I'm not judging it. I think it's interesting.

I would also say college basketball is closer to pro basketball than little league baseball is to college baseball is to minor league and pro baseball. You're watching 11 year olds play a sport, even if they're the best of the 11 year olds.

Just wondering what real advantage does the CT team for being the only undefeated team left. All I can tell is they get one extra day rest since they do not play today. But the SC kid pitched yesterday. There has to be some pitching rotation advantage. Is it just that CT will have every pitcher available but SC or Nevada will not gave any pitcher that throws today.

It really only is not exhausting your best pitching. You do notice that there is a cliff in pitching quality after the first couple kids.

Let’s not forget CT had to play an extra game early in this one.

Right now it’s looking like a Vegas rematch. Clutch homer (although should have been punched out on pitch prior, which was a makeup call for the SE first baseman being gifted a walk).

Pitch limits and rest periods. So more/better pitchers can be available. See 14 and under rules in this link. Pitch limit per game is 85.

I gotta be honest, that’s my perception from out of state. Connecticut always seems very floofy and preppy and kinda how people picture Duke. That’s just the external view. I know it’s not accurate but it’s the first thing that pops in my mind.
Cuz it also has tons of sailing and the type of Mad Men characters who work in NYC but have a mansion in CT. My town is nothing but woods and farms though. Kind of a wild spectrum of places for such a small state.

I have to admit I haven’t watched Fairfield’s number 2 pitcher. How does he rate compared to the #1?

Got a scouting report from someone who knows a bit about baseball and is really tuned into the whole tournament(I think he said his name was Andy Baylock). Fairfield has 2 pitchers, both high quality. They play a pitch count game based on the rules for the tourney to maximize their availability.

Mandatory Rest Requirements (for players 14 and under)

  • 66 or more pitches = 4 days of rest
  • 51-65 pitches = 3 days of rest
  • 36-50 pitches = 2 days of rest
  • 21-35 pitches = 1 day of rest
  • 1-20 pitches = 0 days of rest
Andy told me how they were working it, but I didn't take notes, long story short, having 2 pitchers of the quality they have is giving them a very good shot. Go Nutmeggers!!

They used 2 pitchers not named Luca in 1 of their games. One was SJ Taxiltaridis, the other Tommy D (first base and also hit the HR). Both are big kids (5'8-9", 130-140#)). The other twin (the catcher) could probably also pitch if needed.

Luca more of a pitcher, SJ more of a thrower. Luca does a really nice job of spotting his fastball, and consistently gets it over the outside corner. Tommy D is a definitely step down from the other two.

Neither Nevada or SC could use their aces yesterday due to the rest rules. So CT would have to face the other team’s ace regardless of who won yesterday. Facing the SC pitcher would have been seemingly worse as he has been outstanding on the mound. I’m sure Nevada has a good one as well though.

As for the setup of the tourney, I don’t like that a team can be eliminated with only one loss. At least that was well known to the teams going in. LL apparently wants a winner take all game final. But what I really hate is that some teams get opening round byes. That is so unfair. Hawaii had a bye and CT faced them after facing Texas. Not only did Hawaii have a shorter path but it also meant that CT faced the ace of Texas AND the ace of HI. Ridiculous.

And HI who has been really strong in recent LLWS tourneys getting a bye? I have to think it was on the up and up but by having byes it puts some doubt into if it was truly random.

And lastly NY beat CT earlier but then CT beat NY in the winner to Williamsport game. That was NY’s only loss. With only four teams in the Metro bracket I don’t know why they couldn’t have played it as a true double elimination tourney.

#2 SJ is done pitching for tourny as he pitched on Wednesday and won't have the mandatory 4 days rest for a possible World title
they would need to pitch Tommy D a full game or also use Boden Dunlap (designated hitter right now)
not ideal but D'Amura has been pretty good

the kid who hit the 6th inning HR yesterday will pitch for Nevada. he throws hard but nothing like SC kid (don't think he has given up a hit this tourny)

Gallegos - he swatted that thing. Good kid, tried to console the other squad yesterday. He has gamer quality written all over him.

This Vegas team brings a similar level of moxy to the CT team - can't beat a coach that looks like Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds.
