Fairfield Little League World Series

I'm now watching the South Dakota v. South Carolina game in extras. Little League World Series is always wildly entertaining.

Gaetanos’s blows both of those away. Sorrento’s is solid, but they are known for small sandwiches. A&S is overrated.
Agreed but Gaetanos is in Westport, and owned by Albanians not Italians. Fairfield National LL covers the east side of Fairfield where both those delis are located.

Pretty impressive run by these kids, so they are in the US Final correct? Have to be beaten twice by either NV or SC?

The US championship game is a 1 game playoff. No more double elimination at that point.

BTW: Fairfield's centerfielder's catch? Got #6 in this morning's top ten plays.

Question: the USA championship goes to Saturday winner between Fairfield and
South Carolina. Does the winner play the International champ on Sunday?
Probably without their best pitcher who will be going Saturday.

if they make it to Sunday, Fairfield would have to pitch their first baseman. #1 and #2 would not have enough rest days at that time. not sure who P #4 is but he'll probably have to get some innings on Sunday.
Taiwan probably has better pitching depth than Fairfield

South Carolina about to be eliminated by South Dakota

EDIT: what a jinx
yep - SC losing is huge for Fairfield
Giulietti would have been set up to pitch on Saturday
Fairfield now plays winner of Nevada/South Dakota
probably hoping for a SD win as their pitching has been more used up in losers bracket
Nevada would have ace (Garrett Gallegos) on mound on Saturday

I’m not sure how it falls, but hopefully Ffld avoids the big Italian kid on SC, kid throws cheese. He looks 16 years old - early bloomer.

As for Taipei, is this the same team that won 17/27 LLWS back in the 70-90s? More of a militant baseball academy than an actual town/district?

Tight defense - timely hitting-aggressive base running. Recipe for success. Fairfield is looking solid

I find it to be an interesting phenomenon when a sport like this takes over people's interest.

99% of us drive by little league games all summer long and never give it a second look. If my nephew or friend's kid had a game? I'd go to support them, but half pay attention to most of it.

All of a sudden, little league baseball is must see TV and CT can't stop talking about it. And I am not belittling it. The truth is, it's worse quality baseball than you can see at the Yard Goats and definitely on any MLB game on any channel any night that we all pass right on by. And this happens all the time. World Cup soccer. The USA/Canada hockey. Stupid olympic sports that suddenly have some story - luge, diving, bobsled, shotput, etc.

That is the way I think it's done.

BTW, the strength of the Fairfield team is their best players are down the middle of the field. Their center fielder, their pitcher and their catcher are top notch. An important core for a team. Throw in a steady SS/2B and "the rest", and you have a good team.
I seem to remember Thurman Munson, Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams and, for good measure, Mariano Rivera fit your formula pretty well!

Interesting stuff - did not know these tidbits. Fact check verified all spot on.

You can tack on 4th for Portugese, 2nd for Brazilian, 3rd for Polish and 5th for Haitian. Not too shabby on the diversity fronts.
How are we doing on Mali and Togo? Precipitous drop in last two years?

College basketball is worse quality basketball than NBA and I prefer it to NBA and I would much rather watch UConn men's basketball than any NBA game.

I have zero interest in watching any average town little league but I always enjoy watching the best little league teams in the world. I enjoy watching it even more when Connecticut has the best/one of the best little league teams in the world.
