Fagnano and Bell are out for the Wasabi Bowl

I think anyone (athlete or not) attending the military academies can leave after two years with no obligation for the future
This is correct. That’s why you’ll see that the vast majority of academy portal entrants are sophomores.

I understand your point but fans should go to support Uconn. You bailing is kind of mirroring what they are doing. Of course everyone is free to do what they want with their time and money but I think it’s important to do our part.
Yeah, but buying tickets is also supporting a broken system that literally nobody cares about.

Fix the system.

This whole situation, starting with Mora and the utter disintegration of a very lovable program with a group of great players bailing and others having no apparent desire to finish with a historic 10Ws as a matter of team pride is utterly tragic. Really breaks my heart to see what’s happened to the game and is fans are just wallets to be abused.
This isn’t exclusive to UConn.
It’s an issue CFB has to solve.
stop selling a crappy product that literally everyone now says is meaningless.

Obviously everyone wants both of them playing.

That said, it was a great season, the team played hard and those who are playing deserve the support. Last year, we tailgated at the Riverside T station along with tons of other Husky fans and that was a blast, along with the ride on in. That was a noon game (I believe) and this is a 2 pm start so that whole scene should be even better.

I'm not going to watch Skyler Bell. I'm going to send the team off in proper fashion after a fun year as a fan.
Meh! If the team doesn’t care enough to be sent off in proper fashion, why should I care

.-.
Curious if either play in Sr Bowl?
I'm sure they'll play/practice for any of the pre-draft all-star games they're invited too, the volume of scouts and representatives from all teams there watching throughout can be a difference maker in draft stock. Several former UConn players saw their draft stock skyrocket after excellent showings at the games. Christian Haynes being one of the more recent ones.

To be honest, I'm not sure how he would stop them.
It's also not apples to apples. It would be more akin to them opting out of the Women's NIT or Women's CBI. You don't see a lot of players opting out of the national title tournament for a sport.

True, but if a player who was going to turn pro wanted to opt out, I don't see how a coach could stop them.

You play to win the game.
So the potential to beat Army a few hours away with us less than 100% is not worth showing up?
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Goes for players as well as fans.

I think the NCAA could mandate that players play in bowl games as part of their NIL contracts. I don’t see how it would meet institutional resistance. It benefits everyone except the player that doesn’t want to play. Frankly, the players have plenty now. It’s time to start worrying about the actual paying fans again.

Without those guys playing, we have no chance to win the game and we will likely have a poor fan showing too. Why play the game? Oh, because the schools and everyone associated with the bowl get a paycheck and the fans can still be guilted into wasting their money on a garbage game. I’d go if I lived in Boston, that’s about it. No point showing up to watch our second and third string get run over by Army in the cold. It just isn’t fair to the fans.
you do know that the ncaa has no authority over nil contracts nor should they there is this thing called collusion restraint of trade and anti trust

Pretty amazing this gets broken by a fan. Where are the people who cover the team? Certainly Storrs Central must know. Are they keeping it On the down low so poor saps buy tickets to see our B team lose to army? Would hate to think that’s the case.

Its pretty outrageous we are playing this bowl considering the circumstances and for all the criticism certain schools are getting they are 100% correct to forgo these clearly meaningless games. The lasting image of this team should not be a loss to Army.

Also is the decision to not play due to it being the Fenway bowl (which the school pushed to play in)? Would they have played in other bowls?

Guess it doesn’t matter.

Highly unlikely to happen in a tournament setting but I get your point. The more acceptance there is of opting out of games the more possible it is to see it occur in the college football playoffs or even NCAA tournament. Don't think it can't happen in the NFL or other professional leagues as well.

The fans who are pro sitting out bowl games are part of the problem themselves. The problem is it doesn't just stop at star players sitting out non cfp bowls. It's going to have a trickle down effect on the nfl too it will have impact on guys getting drafted I'm obviously not talking about the Jamar Chases, and Christian Mccafrreys of the world here but the guys further down the list.

What do people think of the G5 playoff idea that was tossed around. Given our AP Top 25 votes, I'd assume we'd be ranked in the top 12 or whatever they decided for a G5 playoff and in it. Feel like players would be more motivated by that. I know it's then saying we're not necessarily up to par with the P4, but maybe this works better?

If only someone hosted a podcast with Joe and could ask him…

I can't imagine shelling out good money to go up and sit in the cold to watch a team that is a shell of what we were watching during the regular season. The system is just a mess in college now.
It's a shell, but after all it is still UConn. People on here are very harsh

It’s Army, not Georgia.
Most of the team will stay. The extra practice and a big game will make them better ballplayers. A payday and exposure the program needs. And a 10th win. If it is true, Evers has won games in our uni.
C’mon.

Do you think Bell + Fagnano have the same agent ? They carry a lot of influence over decisions these players make today.

How many football programs can truly win a football national championship? Maybe 15 schools? Now that the Bowl system is gutted, what is it that everyone is playing for all year? This system is so broke. What is the case for anyone giving UConn (and a bunch of other schools) NIL to players on a team that won't play in the season ending finale. I understand why the players don't want to pay. But I'd also ask what the value is of giving to a football player with so many people in need of support--especially when I'm not even sure what they are playing for. This model is not sustainable.

The goal has to be to get into the playoffs. Without that there is no point. Not being in a conference really hurts our chances. Colorado State has a much easier path to the playoff and don't discount that as part of the reason for Mora's departure.

Can we eventually get there? Of course. Look at Indiana this year, they are far from a traditional football power.

Until it's confirmed, it's just a rumor. The OP hasn't answered numerous questions about where the info came from, so take this with a grain of salt...it certainly has generated quite a bit of interest...and angst.

Arrogance. We wouldn’t have won 4 games this season without Joe and Bell.

Heard this rumor before I heard the news of Cam playing the bowl game so hopefully it influences guys to play at least. You can give Evers a package of plays too btw.

An injured player would be a pretty tough sell I Imagine. Drafted or not, Joe F has an opportunity to make some good money. He may not have the arm of Tim Boyle but was a better college player imo

It is not arrogance, it’s called being a fan, not a bedwetter.
Your take on the team staying home is a lousy. I choose to root for the name on the front of the uni.
