Karnowski 5pts 4 boards

Sabonis 12pts 9 boards

Brimah 5pts 6 boards

Miller 19pts 3 boards

Their 3 pt shooting (10-24) compared to our 1-12 as well as their guard play is what killed us. We out rebounded and shot more fts. We had more steals and blocks and less turnovers and fouls. All their damage was done in the first half. Our perimeter defense and guard defense has been bad. All this is correctable. We do need more assists, had only 7

They did destroy us when they went up 42-27 at halftime. Walter stepped out and made shots and Sabonis had his way inside until foul trouble became an issue. Kanowski takes up important space and they play off of him but he's easily guarded, he can't move at all but also can't be moved.

Not sure what you saw Swag. We did a better job late in the game and Miller proved he can play in the trees no doubt.

Brimah started out playing great and was pulled at about the 4 minute mark for no apparent reason. Anybody else notice this?

Just curious why you left out Wiltjer?
Same reason I left out Hamilton. I don't really consider him a big like Daniels I wouldn't consider a big. He had 17, was 7-16, 3-9 from three and no fts 4 boards. We got blitzed and couldn't recover the first half. Their guards out played ours except when we made the comeback. Both games three point shooting has killed us

I'm saying that they really didn't do too much damage with their bigs around the rim. They were mainly from just under the free throw line out to the three pt line. Either jump shots or drives to the basket. We adjusted our defense in the second half and their bigs struggled. We got blitzed badly the first half. We looked lethargic out of the gate

Mauconn you need to change your glasses every once in a while so that it doesn't cloud your judgement. TasteofUConn and Swag11 are both right on in their analysis. Stop defending the guards, and look at the cold hard truth. Karnowski was shut down by Brimah. As soon as Brimah was benched with 14 minutes to go in 1st half in comes Sabonis who starts destroying Nolan.

Our big men were effective for the most part, it is our guards who were the downfall as Gonzaga was lighting us up like a Christmas tree from 3. Our guards were also missing layups and turning the ball over, while chucking up late 3's on offense. It was only with Adams playing most of the second half with Brimah in the game that our team made a run. Adams is miles ahead of any of our guards as a perimeter defender. He also has natural point guard skills, and has a positive demeanor which is imperative for a point guard.

Not too many teams are going stop the Zag's bigs from scoring - especially Sabonis. I can live with the amount of points we gave up to them yesterday. I was mostly disappointed the rebounds and second chances we gave to Sabonis and Dranginis (from guard).

Because he missed 2 pick and rolls awfully. This is where many don't see the details of him not being up to speed. He went from losing the first rebound all alone OOB's because no hands to making 3 good plays and then his defense was dreadful again.

He played well late as stated but had his moments.

You are so clueless it's pitiful magic. Only a stiff like you would be live he's the 2nd best player on the team - you're lost and have zero basketball knowledge. Go away

Wiltjer is a big, he started at the 4 for them.
Yeah I know. I said those two bc everyone was saying mainly focusing on sabonis and karnowski here. But wiltjer had 17 and 4 compared to hamiltons 14 and 7. But still he did his damage with the timely threes and jumpshots. If we had hit two more threes out of our attemps we wouldn't be saying anything. I started this thread bc everyone uses brimah and our bigs as scapegoats all the time when this was more on our total defense specifically perimeter

Hey no one was very good at all on D in the first half of the Zags game and no one was any good in the Cuse game in the 2nd half run. Not just the bigs and not just the perimeter.

Mauconn stop embarrassing yourself with childish statements as if Gibbs is the 2nd best player on this team. The sheep always need a shepherd to keep them safe. Brimah according to NBA scouts and general managers is the second best player on this team. As you can see Brimah and Hamilton are the only UCONN players listed on mock drafts. There is a reason for that. However, the eye test and his defensive capabilities are all you need, but for clueless sycophants the games were lost due to Brimah not due to horrible display of defense, composure, and lack of offense displayed by Gibbs and Purvis. Karnowski and Sabonis didn't play well when Brimah was playing. Again there is a reason for that. The Maryland game will be the final wake up call if we continue to reward undisciplined experience over young talent and chemistry. Brimah is an unquestionable starter and anchor on this team. Of course for morons, it's better that Hamilton plays the 5 so he can get abused by the Tyler Lydon's of the world so we can play small ball with 4 players that don't defend. Even the 2011 team that you refer to had length with Giffey, Kromah,Daniels, and Brimah. That team was small at the guard position, but Napier and Boatright were offensive and defensive talents. They contained their opposition and were disruptive. Everyone on that team knew how to defend their man.

Yep, you don't get down 21, or whatever it was, by playing any kind of defense anywhere on the court.

 stupid is what stupid thinks he knows.

No doubt their guards beat our guards. That was the biggest surprise to me. A few things aided in that; unusually cold at 3, Purvis and Gibbs both missing layups, and our perimeter d shading towards the paint to help doubling the bigs.

Yep thank you someone was watching. There was a definite focus on doubling and even tripling fast and retreating back, that's not easy for the guards to do. Add the fact we don't have strong hedgers it's a tough job for our guards. But they all need to get better, even Rodney who gets lost and "lazy" at times. This team needs 110% on that side all game. Really had to like the defense when they felt the comeback they really buckled down on their own most of the time.

young talent and chemistry??
Wow that's a mouthful
If Brimah is an anchor - this ship is lost in the wind. DHam is a s close to an anchor this team has right now.
Nobody is the leader - nobody has shown the nads to be the leader on the court
You type a lot of words but I don't think you really watch the team play.

Gtcam after re-watching the game, D-Ham deserves a lot of blame himself on the defensive end in the first half. He needs to defend him man better. He can't be just a one-way player which is what he is now. We know how important he is, but he needs to take his defensive responsibilities seriously. Gibbs was not good, but Hamilton, Purvis, and Miller had a lot of bad possessions on defense as well on the perimeter.

It's really early man. With a lot of new pieces. There's also the dynamic where two of the most experienced guys are new this year, coming into a team where there was already a leadership dynamic in place. It's almost like no one wants to ruffle any feathers.

Boys, chill on the personal attacks.
I don't think Brimah was near the top of the blame list for this game. And I think there is consensus that Gibbs had the worst game if you want to blame someone.

That first play of the game is sort of a Rorshach test for what people think of Brimah. We got beat on the perimeter with dribble penetration, but the Gonzaga guy ended up taking a wild reverse as Brimah was there to protect the rim. When Brimah came back down after challenging the shot, he didn't pull in the board off a quick carom.

If you harp on Brimah's shortcomings, you notice he didn't finish the play with the rebound.
If you see Brimah's value as a rim protector, you notice the missed layup he caused.
