ESPN- UConn matters

It's not his job to teach her the sport of football during broadcasts.

He just has to call the game and tune her out.
agree to disagree. a big part of that job is playing off your coworker.

Fauria is horrible in his own way, and I think her naivete actually makes her more likable than him.

If she was in the booth with someone like Tony Romo I actually think it would be the most entertaining booth in America. But since there isn't anyone to counter or correct what she says, it's just awful.
He tries not to hurt her feelings and when he corrects her he does so subtlety.

Yes, that's a given when both people understand the sport. It's not a professor student relationship.

We disagree.

My biggest issue with Fauria is there is no 4th down he wouldn't go for. His calls on penalties are usually pretty good.

.-.
(One of) the biggest problems with the play-by-play announcer is that her cluelessness/lack of awareness/<add your complaint here> makes re-watching the highlights just enraging. All I want is to share my excitement with the announcers, the fans, anyone within earshot when good things happen. Cant't I just have 60 seconds of joy? Is that too much to ask?

He talks to damn much. Let the play breathe brotha.
He's obviously trying to cover for her. I'm certain a memo to this effect exists. She shouldn't be calling FB games until she practices enough to learn how to call FB games without insulting the audience. There are literally dozens of HS/college radio announcers, some of them students who could do a better job. You are trying to tell me there isn't some out of work pbp guy who would be interested in national broadcast gig. There aren't female announcers who actually understand basic football concepts, gameplay, and terminology? I'm pretty sure you could find several assuming they are getting paid. What about a former UConn player who is free on Saturdays.

Meghan had a couple of good moments in the first half, basically calling the crowd instead of the game...

.-.
I think Meghan actually has a lot of potential. Decent voice, paying attention, quick to think on her feet.

She just apparently doesn't know anything about football. A minor inconvenience, I guess.

I'm fine with her if they just, you know, teach her about football so she can understand what's happening and call the play and understand the situations okay. Some of it is gonna take time but some of it is just like having a better sense of the game.

A lot of that "are they giving them the first?" is her not trusting her eyes. She's waiting for the officials when everyone else knows what they saw. She'll learn, I hope, to call what she sees and then be surprised when the refs see it different. Still seems like an odd assignment for someone unfamiliar with the game.

Ok ESPN but why when I check scores you don't list the UConn/Liberty score among your top 25 scores? I have to go to FBS Ind to get the score and boxscore.
I just was going to post this. It is like they can't give us our do. Same as the AAC site and other places that all said we should give up on football. Radio silence....

Watched part of TCU-Texas and caught Halftime show. I usually never watch it but was curious if we'd be on because we played a ranked team. We weren't until the end when they did their "Primetime Players". One of them picked UConn as a team and praised Mora. So we got a positive shout out on the national broadcast, even if it was on a halftime show.

So much great national press and all over NY media/social media...

UConn football completes unbelievable turnaround with stunning upset

Kinda like your cheap shots on Charlton, every chance you get
Cheap shots are gratuitous. Calling out things that are objectively problematic is not. But, to appreciate that requires moving beyond an uninformed pom pom waver.

Gotta be honest with you unless I’m blind I don’t think the Antichrist put the score on the bottom line…WTF

Methinks there are some very things skinned people in this thread.

UConn being roasted is a nice way of acknowledging how God awful this program has been and how they're a feel good story this season.

If he corrected what she said it would be horrible, he would be lecturing/teaching her the entire game. She doesn't understand the sport at all. He just has to listen to her say stupid stuff for 3+ hours and he's not allowed to laugh, I don't envy his position.
He does correct her, but he does it very subtlety. If you listen she will absolutely butcher her name and then he will say it correctly when he responds. I’ll give him credit for that
