Reibe missed the open practice resting his foot, so let's look back at his World Cup play. Free on Storrs Central.

I liked seeing him hedge and recover. It makes me feel that for all his freshman inexperience defensively, he'll be able to be effective in Hurley's system.

Moves well for a big man and like that he can finish with his right hand even as a lefty. Jumper reminds me of how the players shots looked in Double Dribble but I assume we won’t see much of that once he puts on the Husky blue and whites. I’m verklempt at his potential.

If Tarris Reed (senior)/Reibe (freshman) are a better rotation than Johnson/Reed last season then they'll be really good there. The 5 was not even close to an issue last season.
The 5 was an area we could look to upgrade. We all know Reed is awesome and prime for breakout with a guaranteed role. The hope is that Reibe gives us another absurd tandem.

I like this kid a lot. I think hes a two year kid who should be among the best bigs in the country by the time March rolls around in `27

In addition to his pick and roll game, I’m looking forward to watching this kid pass out of the post in Hurley’s system.

I do not understand people who dont see that because of this kid, we are much deeper at center this year as compared to last year. Not close.
I wouldn't say deeper. I'm not even sure I'd say guaranteed to be better. SJ knew Dan Hurley's system incredibly well and while he wasn't at the level of Clingan and doesn't have the ceiling Reed has he was far from last year's biggest problem.

Same backup wise - Reibe has a lot of potential but Reed last year had actual D1 experience under his belt.

In short - higher ceiling, potentially lower floor, too early to call based on whether Reed can make the expected jump and if Reibe can get up to D1 speed.

We're coming off a disappointing defensive year, and I'm not sure he helps solve that issue, unfortunately, especially as a freshman.
I don’t think he will be a defensive liability. It looks like he moves fairly quickly based on his pick and roll action. That might correlate positively to his ability to recover from setting the high hedge and getting back to the paint where he can alter shots. The offensive action in the highlights shows he plays with/welcomes some physicality which also should bode when he has to bang defensively. Pure speculation of course but I’m cautiously positive on this kid.

Yes but it was the guards and swing guys who were constantly burned last season.
Right but isn’t that sort of related as it seems like Hurley likes his guards and wings to play uber aggressive on the ball at the risk of getting beat off the dribble knowing that the 5 is protecting the rim? Big ask of a freshman 5 defensively

Again, I would tend to agree except for the 7 or so games I witnessed this past Summer, against good international competition. This kid is 7'1" and played 7 games or so in a week, at a high level, holding his own and at times showing flashes of brilliance. SJ was a one trick pony....for limited minutes at that, because the kid was always in foul trouble. Therefore, I agree on the higher ceiling, which is obvious, but strongly disagree on the lower floor based on the Summer games.
Having said that, I expect games where he will commit two fouls within five minutes, especially early. But I think his growth will be awesome to see and I think he will look like a different player in March of 2026. Thankfully, there aren't that many Bears in DI that have great skill and are burly and strong and have great footwork like our Bear.

Love this video! Thanks for sharing - Eric has a great opportunity at UConn to become a real special player.

I just don’t think the international competition he faced this summer is going to be anywhere close to the high D1 level he sees this year. It’s why I’m reluctantly pumping the brakes on my own Furphy hype train too. It’s a big learning curve, especially defensively, especially in a scheme like Hurley’s. SJ was a one trick pony on offense but was a very solid defender. Will be tough for a freshman not named Clingan to step right in and contribute that much on that side of the ball

I still think our biggest weak area is not having that 3rd center. Yes, Reed and Reibe are going to be an awesome 1 - 2 punch....but there will the wrong type of game team.....especially at the wrong time in the NCAA tourney.....where if they both get into foul trouble in the first half they might be heavily exposed offensively and defensively.

Are there any teams in college basketball that can go to third on their C depth chart and not have a big drop off?

maybe I’m in the minority, but I’m not too worried about Reibe. In my mind, his job is to challenge his matchup for 2-3 mins bursts, giving Tarris proper rest so that he can play all out for 28 mins a game bullying the bejesus out of the opposing center.

Plenty of teams have successful seasons having 1 strong option at center playing 34+ mins a game with minimal backup from a kid who is basically a step above a scrub. Reibe is a high quality backup and his goal should be to win his mins against the likes of a Ruben Prey and do his best to challenge a guy like Zubey for a few mins when needed while Tarris gets to rest and recharge. That is an achievable goal, and something he can build on heading into next season when we need him to take more of a center stage role.

Agree. That's what he needs to do. I think he'll be able to do more.

Agree with this. Think some posters are saying not just what you are - that Reibe will
be a great backup center option - with the idea that he’s going to play a huge, freshman Clingan-like role. If he can come in for 10-12 minutes a game or whatever and play solid defense and get a few buckets here or there that would be huge and all this team needs
