Entering the portal - 2026

With J County Hurley is getting a high character guard, 6'4 right now, solid with the ball, a combo with developing PG skills. He is program building in the backcourt with County likely to be here 4 years. Utah player of the year, 36th ranked recruit, Hurley will develop this player and have continuity in the backcourt. Think about it, this staff prioritized J County for a reason.

I think we ought to wait for the portal to entirely lay out before we grab someone for a critical position like PF. I would rather not put all my chips on an undersized 4 with the same size as Landrew.

Apparently Villanova feels really good about Royal. Which would make sense that Royal and Landrew would play the same position at the 3

Not disagreeing that we need competition at center. But your examples don't reflect the current situation. Clingan was an incoming freshman who signed up for a two-year plan before going pro, and Johnson had one more year left and knew his role--and yet he still started his last season despite us bringing in Reed. We will definitely bring someone in at the 5 spot---I do not agree with others that it will be a top of the line star center who's going to command huge money.
I'd be happy with a rim running shot blocker and rebounder. Would not mind if he was a top of the line star type 😊

i like him
Duke's annual purge of 5 star kids - they have a really wild system so far. I hope it crashes. I also hope the 5 stars start realizing going to Duke by no means is the best situation for them. I'm actually surprised they keep getting so many. Cal will start them all no matter what, Scheyer doesn't. It feels like the 5 stars should distribute more across teams rather than so many go to one team. No coach other than Cal is going to want to start 3 freshmen, because it won't win in most years.

We have this type of player coming in but in Colben Landrew. Landrew is 6'6" and 225 lbs.
Landrew has never played a second of college basketball. He looks like a great prospect. But we also thought we had our point guard of the future recruited last year and our dream euro big this year. Now we’re looking for potentially a starting five and had to find a PG.

BE players in conference fair game. Looks like Florida is going to land Milonovic from ISU

I understand that, but it's a risk. Go after a proven commodity or do you chase potential. Wilkins is both IMO, we've seen what he can do, and we see we he can become. No one has seen what Junior County can do at this level of ball. Does he evolve into a Steph Castle or does he end up like Ahmed Nowell? Personally, I'd rather not take that chance when trying to win titles every year.
Hurley saw 6-5 Tristen Newton at East Carolina who lit us up. He has now seen Wilkins. He already knows if he wants this young man. Patience is a virtue.

HW611 can't help but push his agenda because he wants to relive Kemba and Shabazz even though it's 15 years later. I'll give him consistency, that is for sure.

Well not none, sorry, too much. He really doesn't appear to be a natural PG - those guys are natural fascilitators, savvy. He's good enough for the college game, don't see a lot of NBA stuff. Silas plays the position without much of the art that you like to see, more a one gear guy, has very little on the footwork end in terms of the stop/go accelerate/decelerate. You don't really find him making the clever pass, mainly the status quo stuff. A lot of his big assist were at the sacrifice of providing any offense himself. Haven't really found him to provide much in terms of dribble penetration and dish or bucket. Our offense really became almost all off actions 3s or dumps into Tarris.
Hurley puts enormous priority on defense. He saw what Andre and Stephon meant to those teams. He credited Silas as the primary reason why we were where we were near the end of the season. He has worked well in our offense where we have had a lot of shooters that pop open from the myriads of screens and cuts. So I would see him getting an A from Dan Hurley for what he accomplished this year and very grateful he has another year with him in a leadership position. Silas is an out and out dog on this team.

Not sure it only means going into the draft. Some of these kids may just be looking for top dollar. You can't let anything surprise you with the portal. Didn't think Self, a HOF coach, would be seeing his entire starting roster in the portal. Anything can happen - I don't see a one year player like Silas as an impossibility to throw his name out there and let the bidding begin.
LOL. He must have looked like Raf did when Mullins hit the three. Ha ha ha.

Would love a one time transfer rule - the worst part of the portal is seeing players on 3+ teams. It feels like a basketball brothel. At least Michigan didn't have any of that.
How many schools did Yaxel play for over the years?

We always need 3 PGs regardless, but the highly recruited #37 player has been the backup-future-starting PG in training since forever. And they've been ranked anywhere from #15 (Kemba) to #65 or so (Napier). But we've seen a long string of them from Marcus Williams to AJ Price to Kemba Walker to Napier to Boatright. Things may have changed under Hurley but I will note that he has always recruited a PG to come in (but of course, they've been somewhat underwhelming and transferred twice after their first season, and once before they even got here). That's a scouting problem, but I sense it's still part of the philosophy.
Yeah I would like it if the train of thought was we need to recruit a 3rd Millender level insurance PG, who may actually be the Euro we already have.

Rather than it be we need to recruit over the 36th ranked guard in the country that could’ve went to half of the schools in the Sweet 16 this year. Quite literally had offers from 8 of those schools.

Really don’t want to go through another year of sitting a highly ranked guard on the bench man.
