Entering the portal - 2026

Reaches. When I say success, I'm talking about something that looks like we made the wrong move letting them go. That UMass team was awful.
Neither is a reach. If you were arbitrarily defining what "success" is in your eyes you could have easily stated that in your original post.

Being a key rotational piece on a Final Four team is a success. Being the main offensive option on an A-10 team is a success. As noted above it was good enough to get him on a G league roster

Can we think of anyone that transferred out of here that amounted to anything?
Yes. Josh Carlton started for a Houston team that spent most of the year in the top 5. That is absolutely amounting to something. But we had Sanogo who beat him out and he had no intention of playing 12 minutes a game as a back up.

Two seasons of minimal production, might be time to drop down a level
I think so. He average about 5 pts/game on 20 minutes. Dropping down a level to get more playing time and against good level competition, but below high major competition is the way for him to go. Best of luck to him as long as he isn't playing against UConn.

Unless he goes to a school that tells him he’ll be the guy, it’ll be harder.

Georgetown has a top recruit coming in at his position which is probably why he’s leaving.

I've seen plenty of announcements about players entering the transfer portal.

First time I've seen an an announcement like this though.

BREAKING: UCLA guard Trent Perry has signed a new deal to return to the Bruins next season, he announced.

We need a 4 more than we need a 5 or a 3.

While we need a Reibe companion, we literally will have zero power forwards with AK and Dwayne gone.

With Landrew we are fine at 3 (Ross/Stewart).

Silas needs a backup and then a Braylon replacement…or hopefully not.

We need a 5 badly and a 4 no doubt. Reibe will be a good one (there are rumors his team wasn’t happy) but you saw why we need someone as good or better. And the 4 is huge as well. Maybe JR County becomes a Wagler?

On the road again - Cooley seeing the floodgates open. Our guy is taking the AJ Storr path it appears.

He absolutely stinks, welcome to the a10 or lower. Guy was given big minutes and delivered an empty box score every night

Plays with no juice - has a lifeless energy on the floor. Looks like the real deal but has no jene se quois for the game.

He was one of the best defenders on the team. That was his job and role.

He started off as a really good 3 and D player. Then the 3 fell all the way off later in the year. And he was the last offensive option on the floor.

He should’ve found somewhere that he could stay and continue to get better and earn more trust from the stuff to shoot more offensively as he got better. Transferring is only going to reset the trust he needs to earn in a staff and teammates.

Jalen Gaffney was a rotation player on a final four team. Not the greatest counting stats that year but still a rotation player

Rahsool eventually ended up averaging 17 points a game albeit on terrible efficiency for a terrible team. But did enough to get on a G League roster and get some minutes. So not a resounding success but not a complete flop

Brendan Adams and Josh Carlton had success at their new schools. But not sure if they count since they left before the madness of the portal began

But the rest that I can remember have had rough times. Not much happened for Alleyne, CFJ, Akok, Abraham, Nowell.

Neutral on Mahaney/Singare. Aidan got to a better situation but didn’t make the tournament. Singare made the second round but wasn’t really in the rotation
Out of all of those, only Carlton and Alleyne probably get real minutes in the rotation (and IMO Carlton was just not a good fit for Hurley’s system) . CFJ got much better but it took him a while of being very bad at PC in minutes that he wouldn’t have gotten here.

With the coaching job Danny and crew have done this year, combined with their proven ability to develop players- why wouldn’t a transfer want to consider UConn?

Money, playing time/role in the offense, and coaching style. UConn isn’t going to be for everyone but this staff has shown they’re great at finding the right guys.

Carlton had some good games for us and flourished in Houston but I always thought he was a bit soft. I can’t remember another player whose game I liked less than his at his size.

You know Stewart has been the backup 4 for us all season and is only 1 inch smaller than Karaban? I'm not sure he would be starting but we do have at least a backup 4 there. We need both a starting 4 and starting/backup 5 equally.

I don’t think we should expect to have Stew as a backup 4 as a senior if we think he believes in his basketball career at all.

I didn't expect him to be happy as backup 3 or 4 this year but he was. I think Stew loves playing for UConn. He must of known with Karaban starting and Mullins coming in as a 3 he would be backup at best this year to both of those positions.

When he decided to come back, Karaban didn’t make his decision yet.

Karaban decided to come back on the very last day of the draft. It’s not the same decision for him. We don’t have to be naive to how that decision process actually went for him.

He knew there was a chance Karaban would come back. Not totally obvious decision that he was leaning to leaving after Karaban had a very meh junior year and loved UConn and Hurley.

There’s a diff between a guy that wants to be coached up to improve his skills and chance at an NBA career and a guy that is trying to maximize his NIL because he knows deep down he isn’t going to play in the league

AK and Reed are showcasing what an elite PF and C duo are supposed to look like on this run, I hope the portal is taking notice:

Demary / Transfer
Ball / Ross
Mullins / Landrew
Transfer / Stew
Transfer / Reibe

B: County / Furphy
