He’s essentially what we need. An athletic wing who can also take on some play making responsibilities.

That’s a guy that I would be ok moving Reibe to the bench for.

Not sure if anyone else has said this, but I like the potential for deja vu all over again.....a la Tristen Newton's performance against us at East Carolina his freshman year.
It was in the game where he scored 25 on us and Bouknight made the insane dunk of a terrible alley oop pass. We were at the game asking each other how could they have such a great freshman guard?
Similar size but not as physically developed as TN was but seemingly with the same moxie.
Who knows who else may join the mix, but this kid seemed to be the Furman's leader confidence combined with ability is a winner.
 
I feel like basically everyone is going to be told to enter the portal because these agents are looking to max their prospects. It’s gonna be a disaster for some.

The entire MAAC is going to be in the portal. I would say that the top 30-40 players in that conference are gone.

I really don’t see Solo Ball being a bench player next season just because fans have dreams of acquiring certain players in the portal. Hurley is loyal and very likely will stick with him as the starting 2, so it’s probably either going to be Silas, Ball and a transfer 3/Ross or Silas, Ball, and Mullins.

There will be a couple factors, not prioritizing one over the other:

How badly do we want him? Will we target him the way we did Tarris & Silas?

How large of a role does he want at his new school? Does he want to go to a place where he will be given the opportunity to play 30 minutes and score 20 points each game or is he looking for a situation where he'll be one of many pieces of reasonable importance?

I would love to land this kid but if things fall in a different direction so be it. We'll still be in very good shape.
 
Is the market moving in a direction where proven current college players are making so much in NIL money that high school recruits get prioritized higher because they’re less proven and less expensive?

He was easily the best guard on the court in our game, granted Silas did not play. He could back up Silas next year, and take over when Silas leaves. We could also play him with Silas at times.

Is is interesting that all of our good PG's recently have been portal guys. The high school PG recruits have been disappointing and transferred out.

@RuffRuff Every Big East team is terrible and the conference is a mid-major.

Also @RuffRuff Some rando guard who averaged 25 mpg game and I don't recall at all despite having watched about 8 SHU games this year is a big loss for the Pirates.


Clark and Hines are decent players that will also not have a lot of options unless they want to sit at the end of a bench at a bigger program, probably for less money. The VTech/Syracuse/Pitt caliber schools that may show interest are not upgrades and are unlikely to pay much more than SHU.

I know a kid in the portal. He's a starter, but more of a "glue guy" on a low major that had a good season. He's in the portal for the right reasons (not just cash), but he had a few agents pursuing him. My guess is he transfers to another low major or maybe a mid major. How much can these guys really make off a kid like this? They must just be looking for quantity and taking a couple thousand bucks per kid?

Look at the player rosters for some of those agents.

They’d move a kid for a few hundred extra dollars.

Also, where are the 6'8 220+ shooters? We need an AK replacement.

That's what I'd think, but something doesn't add up. I don't want to out this kid (or myself), but I have good reason to believe that this is a real agent that is actually spending a number of hours trying to get this kid to sign with him. It just doesn't seem like a few hundred dollars (or even a couple thousand dollars) is worth the time. There must be more benefits these guys are getting. Maybe they get extra finder's fees from certain schools?
 
Syracuse board says Tyler Betsey has entered the portal. #1 prospect in Connecticut in 2024. Hasn’t done much at Cincy or Cuse?
