On Nowell, man is he fast! I’m sure Hurley didn’t like the lazy bounce pass which led to a turnover near the end of the game.
They tv went to Hurley after the pass and he was just shaking his head no.

Our defensive, while impressive at times, often showed us taking a head or shoulder fake and leaving our feet. The other team just couldn't finish but better teams will. Lots to improved upon by our young team. Love the rebounding effort by Reed, he really wants the ball and commands space well.

Ball and Ross are extremely jumpy. I'm afraid of what Haggerty and Hunter are gonna do to our defense.

The bad: Didn't cover, shot only 29% from three and most importantly had 19 turnovers.

The good: we won easily and got a lot of players some time and Samson didn't foul out.

We really won't know anything until Wednesday next week.
Have to think that was Hurley’s last go at mass “experimenting” and we’ll see something a lot closer to how he wants to build the team on the go forward. He’ll likely ratchet the rotation down a bit and the guys that he sees as the winning pieces against real teams become more prominent.

One thing I don’t get with the scheduling is not amping up the competition at least a little bit before you go right into heavy hitters. Perhaps two stinkers to start then two semi decent mid majors. Really not sure what you learn against teams you can just overpower for 40. I realize some of these are scheduled well in advance.

When’s the last time UConn had a negative assist to turnover ratio? Beyond sloppy. They got good looks when they didn’t turn it over, but jeeez, a negative assists/turnover is a buy game was rough. Need to clean that up, almost seemed like they were just going through the motions offensively at times.

Off the top of my head, the Donyell Marshall 360 dunk on the fast break was probably more memorable, but there aren’t many better contested ones than this one.
IIRC Tony Robertson dunked over Lonnie Baxter in the second half of the 2002 regional finals.

Totally agree on the scheduling. 4 teams that were -35 each is not great. At least put a couple of games against teams that are -17 to -25. They aren't that hard to find even with not knowing everything before the schedule is set.

But they have done this pretty much for two seasons previous, so I'll leave it to the staff to figure out what's best.

I understand that beating up on the worst teams by 30+ helps our metrics but if you pick up bad habits along the way it defeats the purpose. Why not beat some slightly better teams by 20+ and be better prepared for Maui? Losing to Memphis in the first game will have a much bigger impact on our metrics than these blowouts did.

I would like to quote the wise man who once said, "We ready. We ready. We ready, for y'all."

Coming into the season I thought that obviously we would be missing that extra inside dimension that Clingan brought - we are - , but maybe would have a hard time finding what Newton brought. He knew how to get into the lane and either score or create and was a mature player. With Castle also gone, I think that right now Diarra is the closest to being able to do that. Plus he is a great defender. Clearly he gets himself into trouble and winds up being turned over, but with Mahaney I think we become a bit static.

We are also a very young team. Our sophs didn’t play a lot last year. Hurley is getting a lot of guys in right now which probably produces some of the erratic play. His problem is that if he shortens the bench, a few pretty talented kids will be mostly sitting. But he will figure it out. Is Nowell more of a facilitator than Ball, who needs to be playing a lot? I would not be shocked by some early bumps but hope all that talent jells into a solid, consistent tough out.

FWIW, Marquette looks pretty good vs. a Purdue team that is worlds better than any of our opponents so far.

We didn't play great. They had more offensive rebounds than us, held their own if not outrebounded us in the 2nd half, and played us even the last ten minutes. Hurley was yanking kids every couple of minutes

Now I'm not one to push the panic button, so don't read me wrong. However, Dan is going to get their attention before Maui.

That was ugly

We're losing to Memphis if we play like that.
We also can play well and lose. You can say that about any game. These games are used to find some rotations that might work for situations. We’ll be fine and I expect another beat down on Monday. Because that’s just what we do to teams.
