Diamond is one of the best players in the country. Now that she is getting healthy. I think you will see it.

Mebbe so. I have seen only one LV game this season, but from that and reading the recaps and box scores it does seem that she may have a rather pronounced case of Simmons Syndrome.
 
I agree that Jefferson belongs on the 1st team. Honestly, you look at the other players on that list and and especially Wilson is undeserving. Also you can't just look at scoring. Dee averaged about 15 or 16 PPG her senior year and was the runaway NPOY. Look at what Moriah does for UCONN - not just in points scored, and it's easy to see why the best PG in America should be 1st team.

I do agree Tuck is not 1st team. Probably 3rd team. She doesn't do anything that's great - just a ton of stuff that's very good, and for that reason is very often overlooked. I think 3rd team is probably fair for her.

Also while Anigwe is possibly NFOY for Cal, I don't see how anyone votes her in on any of the AA teams this year. It's hard for a freshman to make that kind of impact. Having said that, 22 PPG and 9+ RPG is nothing to sneeze at for a top 20 team....

Outside of Stewart there isn't another player I'd pick on my team above Jefferson, and she has been very good this year and could definitely be flip flopped with Wilson or Smith, both of whom have had great starts to the year. A lot of players on this list have had more explosive starts to the seasons so I'm giving those players credit for their early individual and team success. As the season continues, I'd look for their production to deplete as their teams face better competition, and Jefferson to elevate her play and really standout as the nation's number two player.

Also, Alana Beard took home the majority of the POY trophies in 2004, not DT. DT had the last laugh but IIRC, Beard raked in every major award sans Naismith and the Honda award.

And I think Anigwe definitely makes a team if Cal finishes top 20 and she keeps up those numbers in a more competitive Pac-12. Kelsey Mitchell was 1st team last year with 25ppg, and Wilson made a team with far worse stats. 22/9 is definitely AA worthy if she keeps it up.

They've knocked off multiple top ten teams with a roster of freshmen and role players from last year's squad, so that's why I picked Muffett. And UCONN isn't getting 3/5 of the first team nods. I think she'll be a 1st team all American when it's all said and done after conference play takes its toll. Tuck has been great but again, UCONN isn't going to get 3/5 spots especially in a year where they've had a few teams play them close and there are many other players having exceptional seasons.

Good list! As an Irish partisan, I think you've got this absolutely right with Cable at 3rd team and Mabrey/Ogunbowale on the frosh team. It will be interesting to pick this up again even halfway through league play to see how some players like Bre Turner do, having come back from injury. I suspect Jefferson will move up to first team...I would've put her there now, thinks she's terrific.

Two players I've seen against the Irish that might bear keeping an eye on: Aaliyah Whiteside of Georgia Tech does a lot of everything for the Yellowjackets but does not force the issue. Really nice step-back jumper. Expect the Irish to have a tough time with them in the return game in Atlanta. And Jordin Canada of UCLA has really stepped up her game as a sophomore. Great acceleration. Playing more within team concept.
 
If I was picking for a pickup game and had Stewie already selected, I would pass on Aja and take MoJett without a thought.
In fact, I'd probably pass on her again to get Tuck next (wouldn't have to think about that one either).
Maybe it'd be a toss up between KLS and Wilson. But KLS will be better than Wilson soon anyway.
 
1 st team: Stewie, Moriah
2nd team: Tuck
3rd team: Kia, Gabby
Freshmen team: either Collier or KLS
 
One game does not make a season but MoJeff was 10-15 with 21 pts vs Kelsey Mitchell, who was 2-14 and 8 pts.......if the players voted I suspect Mo would be a unanimous pick first team AA

Agreed! To take it to the next step shouldn't the top 3 players in the country, Stewart, Jefferson, and Tuck (said by Kara Lawson, Rebecca Lobo, Doris Burke, etc) at least be 1st team. Let's not forget many are predicting that the "big 3" would make history and go 1-2-3 in 2016 WNBA draft, if Tuck were to declare.

I hate that this is my first comment on this subject but Morgan Tuck is NOT the 3rd best player in the country.

Just to juice this up I believe a Mo led team could beat a Stewie led team. Need a pg to give the ball to Stewie. Mo disrupts offenses. Very underlooked

I've got to disagree - Stewie is a surprisingly good ball-handler and passer. She's second on the team in assists with (47 for the season or 4.7 per game) and has a 2.4 assist:turnover ratio, something pg's would love to have. Is Stewie a pg? No, she's not but the point is that she doesn't depend on guards to get her the ball, she can handle the ball and create for herself.

Stewie's stats:
Points - 22.8
Reb - 8.0
Assists - 4.7
TO's - 2.0
Steals - 2.0
Blocks - 2.8
Fouls - 1.9

All this against the #1 SOS (I believe, haven't checked lately). Kid's a marvel, really.

If Morgan is not the third best player in the country then who is? Jones at GWU is the only player even close skills wise to Morgan IMO. There is NOTHING basketball related that Wilson does better than Morgan.
Morgan:
  • Best low post offensive player in the nation.
  • Unique in her ability to shot 3 point shot from Center, PF, SF position
  • Best passing forward in the nation
  • 3rd best transition post in the nation behind only Turner & Stewie
  • Has ability to defend in the post and on the perimeter
  • Has ability to switch on to smaller guards on the perimeter
  • Has ability to play defense without fouling
Reference "I believe a Mo led team could beat a Stewie led team" it depends on what the rest of the team looks like. By that slanted logic then a Nurse led team did beat a Mo & Stewie led team this summer so Nurse should clearly be 1st Team All-American or Canadian at least.

That is Geno's logic concerning Tuck. She is one of the top 5 players in the country and is getting penalized because two of the others are on the same team.

If you are a fan of a team other than the Huskies, these FACTS must be disputed. At least for recruitment purposes and hope for next season.
You are absolutely correct in your analysis. Just because Tuck is third on this team, does not diminish her contribution. If she was on any other team she'd be considered first team, probably unanimously.

Let's start with the reference. Me saying a Mo led team would beat a Stewie led team has nothing to do with All-American team. It was simply just finding a way to pin the two best players in America against each other :D. Nothing more nothing less.

Morgan has a very unique offensive game. She's the draymond green of women's college basketball. Her defense is the reason I can't put her number 3. Her low post defense is very good for a 4 man(Morgan Tuck is a FOUR)but her peremeinter defense is average at best. Now listen before everyone goes on attack. It's obvious Morgan Tuck weakness,if forced to pick one, is lateral quickness. Uconn tenacious help defense does a great job disgusing this. Credits to Geno practices. I think you have to give the edge of 3rd best player to Nina Davis followed by Morgan Tuck. The toughness and energy Nina Davis brings alongside being a double double machine gives her the edge in my eyes. Btw Tuck doesn't have much lift on her shot but is an excellent big man with shooting capabilities. I say this because you put Tuck at the 3 that's more energy she has to play on the defensive side which can affect her shot. Now does she have the capability of making 3s at the 3 position? Yes. Would she be very effective? No. I love Tuck as a 4 and 5 that can hit the 3 point shot especially trailing the offense. I think that's when her 3 point shot is deadliest. Oh and one last thing Nina Davis is like Kenneth Faried of women's basketball.
 
Hmmmm. After reading what I JUST wrote I think I would label Morgan Tuck 3 and Nina Davis somewhere around 5-6 :confused:. I'm all over the place this morning. I need a McDonald's caramel frapp and this Duke vs Cuse game to come on :);).

Glad to see you have had coffee or something to create a more cogent response. If you are going to argue that Nina Davis is 3th best player and Mogan is 4th I would not argue too strongly. Morgan perimeter defense is well above average for a WCBB post player. Granted her defense, lateral quickness, and lift are not what it was as a Freshmen & and after Micro-Fracture surgery but I was also told Cindy Crawford had a mole which I never ever noticed. I cannot think of another big in the NCAA (Stewie obviously!) that actually does a switch on the high ball screen-Morgan does it all the time and does it well. Draymond Green is an excellent comparison. You can give Geno's practices credit for for Morgan's technique but Morgan credits her father.
