Early Coaching Hotseat Edition

Baylor is not firing Nicki Collen
I want to be on the record, that I DO NOT WANT NICKI FIRED. Please, oh please Baylor give her a lifetime contract. She hasn’t burned the program to the ground completely yet.😜

I hear what you are saying but he is a legend and not on the hot seat.
YES I KNOW HE'S NOT BEING FIRED. As I said, I included them since there WILL be a coaching change, as he has already announced he's retiring.

Im gonna say no on BC and Pitt — I don’t think either care enough/don’t want to pay a buyout to get rid of someone before their contract is up
First, Baylor, no. I think Georgia could go either way, its too early in the season to call, I think.

Pitt I can't see making a move yet, for the reason's given, however, BC could make a change, they are very much the doormat of the ACC.

Rutgers yes, Penn State and Purdue would make sense, but Purdue may have a bit of "alum" cushion. A&M I think she might survive if she does passible, not great, in the SEC. Florida and UCF are probably due; I like the Florida coach, but success is lacking.

Normally contract status is the main factor in any move but with the SEC and Big Ten money, there is a new paradigm for them. For the ACC and other conferences, when the current contract expires and/or the contract buy out will still factor in the decision.

So from the top-
Rutgers with Coquese Washington who, at best did a poor job at PSU, signed a 6 year contract in April 2022 for $4.65 mil. She is making in excess of $750K per year until April 2028. Rutgers will give her one more year AFTER this year until April 2027.

Penn State-Carolyn Kieger has been an abject failure at PSU following Coquese Washington and her contract is set to expire in April 2026. She will be let go

Purdue-there are some on this forum who think that Purdue is actually getting better under Katie Gearlds but I am NOT one of them. I believe her contract is through April 2028 and the best I can muster in her support is she will not be one of the worst 3 programs in the Big 10, which is currently occupied by Rutgers, PSU and the next team on this list-Northwestern. Purdue will give her one more year at least.

Northwestern but a very bad "sentimental reason" decided to let Joe McKeown "Uncle Joe" have one more year to try and end on a positive note before he retired. That was a huge mistake....this team is terrible and they should have pulled the plug last year.

Texas A&M realizes how badly they overpaid Joni Taylor and what horrible job she has done, however her contract is through 2028 so while I do think they should cut their losses after this year, I can see them giving her one more year until 2027.

Florida-Kelly Rae Finley has a contract that expires in April 2027 and while she has not been great by any stretch, I don't see Florida getting rid of her.

UCF-Sytia Messer is making $700K per year with her contract until April 2027. As this is year 3 in the new conference affiliation, she is showing signs of minor improvement so I do not think they get rid of her.

BC-Joanna Bernabei-McNamee is in the last year of her contract and NOTHING is showing any improvement to warrant another year. Whether anyone thinks BC cares enough becomes moot as her contract expires and BC will bring in another coach.

Some of these contacts are insane… unfortunately some schools are stuck in dire situations until the clock runs out
