It’s not my fault Hurley can’t develop a PG.Is this the same guy who posted over and over and over about how Solo is a true PG this time last year?

Newton was overrated and Solo should have been the PG continues to be one of my favorite hot takes on this board. It’s not my fault Hurley can’t develop a PG.
Wait, wait, wait. Solo not ever being a PG any ever is a referendum on Hurley's ability to develop PG's? I agree he's not the greatest at identifying HS PG's. Shaky resume. But RJ Cole, Tristen Newton and Hassan Diarra were pretty good, no? They got significantly better at UConn under Hurley. It’s not my fault Hurley can’t develop a PG.

All of those are transfer PGs who already have the ability. Even when it was time to make a combo guard into a PG (Mahaney) it failed terribly.Wait, wait, wait. Who says they're not going to make Mingo a PG?All of those are transfer PGs who already have a transfer ability. Even when it was time to make a combo guard into a PG (Mahaney) it failed terribly.
I’m not worried about my Solo PG take when we haven’t been able to make any PG HS recruit successful. If everyone fails the class it says less about the students.
We’re great at other things that help us win and being able to get guys in the transfer portal helps make up for it so it’s not necessary to do.
Even in this Mingo recruitment we aren’t talking about bringing him in to be a PG.
The projection is that if Demary and Ball stays he’ll play a Castle role. Which makes sense, but will be the case nonethelessWho says they're not going to make Mingo a PG?
So how does that help your argument that Hurley can't develop PGs? "MIngo would be too good to be a backup PG and he has the size so we're starting him on the wing in a role where he will facilitate offense and probably run the 2nd unit".The projection is that if Demary and Ball stays he’ll play a Castle role. So you aren't worried when you are wrong but lord it over the board when you think you are right. That's beyond annoying. All of those are transfer PGs who already have a transfer ability. Even when it was time to make a combo guard into a PG (Mahaney) it failed terribly.

We can remove him from the discussion and the point still standsSo how does that help your argument that Hurley can't develop PGs? That's funny, before I saw who wrote this comment I thought it was about 611, not by him.We can remove him from the discussion and the point still stands
RJ Cole came from Howard and Tristen from ECU. No one expected T New to be a Husky of Honor guy when he got here. He credits his development to Hurley. There was no guarantee Cole was going to play up to the level he transferred to, he also credits his development to Hurley. Every PG who becomes great "already had the ability". No coach turns trash into treasure. Also not counting Castle among his PG wins when he just won rookie of the year as a PG is disingenuous to say the least. All of those are transfer PGs who already have the ability. I’m not counting a guy who had to come out and say he wants to play PG and only wants to work out with teams who need a PG to prevent himself from being in the same situation he was in here during his draft process.RJ Cole came from Howard and Tristen from ECU. You tell me what’s the difference between his last year at ECU and senior year here. Was he doing all that ECU?
You very clearly have no idea how leverage and the NBA Draft process worksI’m not counting a guy who had to come out and say he wants to play PG and only wants to work out with teams who need a PG to prevent himself from being in the same situation he was in here during his draft process
For as great as T-New was for us, he really wasn't that efficient a scorer. But he was clutch!I’m not counting a guy who had to come out and say he wants to play PG and only wants to work out with teams who need a PG to prevent himself from being in the same situation he was in here during his draft process.

I was actually surprised to see he was a more efficient scorer there to be honest.
I know its annoying to make a post like this and add to it.Jim Calhoun comparison alert.
But the guy had a blueprint PG training academy for almost 20 years and they all had the same qualities.
Kevin Ollie
KEA
Taliek Brown
Marcus Williams
AJ Price
Kemba
Shabazz
(I’ll even throw in Boatright because he was Calhoun’s recruit coached by his former PG turned assistant coach KO who he taught how to play PG)
They all developed into elite level decision makers, leaders, and can all make plays in the clutch. Every single one. It’s the inverse of development we’ve seen with Hurley where it’s clear those guys were good because of who was coaching them because all the students were successful.
It’s hard to watch that consistently and excuse what we’ve seen out of all the PGs we bring in from HS and blame it on evaluation. Calhoun turned Craig frickin Austrie into a solid PG here for us from Day 1.
Outside of Ollie (I didn’t watch his time here) you can talk about a big time clutch shot each of those guys made (or was trying to be clutch in Marcus case but the other team hit more shots). It’s just crazy the consistency we saw at the position for almost 20 years.
I know it’s hard to defend our HS PG development recently after looking at a list like that. So yeah let’s lock the thread and end the convo lolIs it time to kill this thread?
So about that guy Dylan Mingo.........
I’ve never seen a guy pat himself on the back as much as this guy.Eh it’s not always crazy guesses against the grain.
It could be stuff like saying Cam was going to prove to be a better college player than Hawkins or saying Castle and Clingan were going to be top 5 picks (Clingan should’ve went top 5) before the season even started. And how 2024 was more talented and could be better than 23 (which was blasphemous coming off of the most dominating tournament run ever losing Jackson, Hawkins, and Sanogo).
Could also be things like saying the 2023 team led by Jackson was going to be similar to 2011 when Kemba got his chance to lead (and what do ya know a championship happened).
I’ve been doing this for awhile man and it’s not always some wonky take on how a player is going to breakout. (Even though I did beat that Hawkins and Solo drum as much as I do for Ross).
The obnoxiousness here is off the chartsI know it’s hard to defend our HS PG development recently after looking at a list like that. So yeah let’s lock the thread and end the convo lol
You love to derail threads and won't let go of even the most false beliefs. How many times do you have to post basically the same thing? So yes, I think almost everyone on here would enjoy the board more if we just ended this inane conversation.I know it’s hard to defend our HS PG development recently after looking at a list like that. So yeah let’s lock the thread and end the convo lol

Numbers earned against inferior competition in lower pressure situations aren't apple-to-apples, imo. Besides, he was a better player in his second year here than he was his first. I'm sure he was a better player in his first year here than his last at ECU as well. You tell me what’s the difference between his last year at ECU and senior year here.
