Even funnier when you ignored the original comment because you knew it was nonsense before it was even typed. This is fun

And Doron Sheffer. You forgot about Tate.
I know it’s hard to defend our HS PG development recently after looking at a list like that. So yeah let’s lock the thread and end the convo lol
Like I said, Calhoun made Craig Austrie into a viable PG from Day 1. At some point it’s not about evaluations. If all of your students are failing it’s not the students fault.Development?
2024 - Nowell - top 35ish player in high school who transferred down to VCU after one year
2023 - Castle - top ten player who was drafted in the top 5 of the NBA draft.
2022 - none
2021 - Diggins - top 60ish player in high school who transferred down to UMass after one year, played well at UMass but never tried to transfer back to a high-major. UMass was his level
2020 - none
2019 - Gaffney - top 100ish player in high school who transferred down and didn't exactly develop a ton after, though he was a decent bench player
2018 - Adams - top 250ish player in high school who graduated and transferred down and played well at a lower level and I would argue played well compared to his ranking at UConn
He's had a chance to really develop two high school PGs in Gaffney and Adams. Both of them were lower ranked high school players who probably played to their rankings. Castle, Nowell and Diggins only played a year at UConn. My personal opinion is that Diggins was overrated in a flawed COVID recruiting year. Castle was Castle and probably good enough to be drafted out of high school. Nowell is the question mark but he was also purportedly injured last year. It's just not a large list.
I think the bigger thing is Hurley has missed on his first choice recruit at PG almost every year (Castle aside).

By the same token, if the whole Boneyard thinks you're full of it, you probably are full of it.If all of your students are failing it’s not the students fault.
Why are you calling a guy who lead his team in assists by a large amount a SG?Calhoun was a great coach, but his great point guards were already great point guards in high school, and he wasn't picky about height.
Hurley has tried to get tall, long guards, and when he couldn't recruit a tall natural point guard, he tried to convert shooting guards like Mahaney and Newton. Worked with Newton, didn't work with Mahaney.
I don't know of any coach who's had a high hit rate trying to convert non-point guards into high D1 point guards. It rarely works out, even for the best coaches. Some things just can't be taught.
Craig Austrie as a "viable" point guard - well, we're setting a low bar here. Hurley can develop Craig Austrie level point guards any time he wants.
Why are you so loud and wrong? Hassan Diarra virtually played his entire career here. Are you gonna say his 1 year at A&M is proof he came here developed? LmaoWhy are you calling a guy who lead his team in assists by a large amount a SG?
Craig Austrie is purposefully a low bar to show how not hard it was yet we haven’t been able to create even a Craig Austrie for 8 years.

1st team All American Tristen Newton from UConn?Tristen Newton led his team in assists. Austrie in his best year was fourth on the team in assists (2.3 apg in 2008-09).
Craig Austrie is a poor example. Yes, he didn’t have elite-level athleticism or physical skills, and wasn’t flashy at all, but you make it sound like JC turned Austrie from scrub into “viable PG”. In reality, the kid was a fairly polished PG from the moment he arrived in Storrs. He started the first two dozen games his freshman year and set the freshman single-game assist record (14) early that season. Anyone who watched this kid in the FCIAC at Trinity (Stamford) Catholic knew that he was a solid PG and a winner: 103-6 record his four years there, three FCIAC titles, two CIAC state titles and two-time CIAC runner-up. Gatorade CT POY. You make it sound like Calhoun turned a Rob Garrison-level player into a serviceable PG. Austrie deserves a lot more respect.Like I said, Calhoun made Craig Austrie into a viable PG from Day 1. At some point it’s not about evaluations. Hopefully you drank everything on the “Beer Expert” @Fishy recommendation list. Lots of solid hops wisdom from the puncher of throats in the beer thread. 🍻I was sober when i started reading this ridiculous thread. By page 7 I had forgotten the original theme of the thread (Mingo). By page 10 I kept wishing for a quick death. I kept thinking that this thing would return to Mingo. No luck. I am nice and drunk now so I am going to bed. Good night.
FIFY AYou love to derail threads and won't let go of even the most false beliefs. How many times do you have to post basically the same thing? So yes, I think almost everyone on here would enjoy the board more if HW611 would just go away.
B Adams was a point guard?Development?

B Adams was a point guard?
He played 2 seasons at A&M.Why are you so loud and wrong? Hassan Diarra virtually played his entire career here. Are you gonna say his 1 year at A&M is proof he came here developed? Lmao
I was a big fan of freshman year Gaffney so no push back from me.Not sure Austrie was much better than Gaffney off the bat.
I like Austrie a lot. Unfortunately he’s the lowest on the totem poll because Calhoun was so legendary when it came to making a great PG.Craig Austrie is a poor example. Some of us remember that 2005-06 season. We "trusted" Craig Austrie because our other two point guards were suspended.I was a big fan of freshman year Gaffney so no push back from me.

And it’s crazy he can trust him the way he did but we couldn’t trust Nowell, a top 30 recruit under any circumstance.

The only reason Austrie played was because Marcus and AJ were suspended. Let's not make it seem like Austrie was expected to be a major contributor from day one.
He was-The Ross takes were just as ridiculousWas hoping someone made this point.
I’m exhausted with his takes. I swear, he wasn’t this ridiculous last year. The new username has really emboldened him.
We were putting Liam at point at times last year when Diarra was hurt. Diarra had to play 30 minutes on a bum knee for the whole back half of the season because we refused to trust Nowell. Some of us remember that 2005-06 season. The bigger issue is that the staff thought Mahaney could provide valuable minutes at point guard. As we saw, he was more suited to playing 2 guard than the point. It was a roster construction issue. The staff learned from it and appeared to make significant efforts to shore up the point guard spot and ball handling going into this coming season. We were putting Liam at point at times last year when Diarra was hurt. If I remember right Austrie was the Gatorade Player of the year in CT his senior year of high school. The only reason Austrie played was because Marcus and AJ were suspended. Let's not make it seem like Austrie was expected to be a major contributor from day one.
Players earn trust. You don't just give it to them. So much happens in practice that we don't see. And despite your convictions, you don't know everything. We were putting Liam at point at times last year when Diarra was hurt. Which should tell you everything you need to know. You saw him in those few games, he was awfulWe were putting Liam at point at times last year when Diarra was hurt. Diarra had to play 30 minutes on a bum knee for the whole back half of the season because we refused to trust Nowell.
