2026 Recruiting: Dylan Mingo Official Visit this weekend!

He was so good as a backup big he could’ve came out that year and got drafted as a first rounder.

He 100% impacted that 2023 championship. He was an 10-0 run waiting to happen anytime he checked in.
I remember this most distinctly away at Marquette that year. We were trading baskets with them, Cling came in down 17-15 and we went on a 16-3 run with him in there. Marquette didn't know what to do with the basketball anywhere near the rim. Adama came back in and Marquette immediately went on a 9-0 run. Cling finished with 20 in that one, and it was the first game when you knew they had something special in the big galoop.

I hate to derail this thread even more but Clingan was MVP of the Phil Knight tourney early in his freshman season. If people didn’t notice his impact until Big East play then they weren’t paying attention.

I saw this on googles AI so I don’t know if it’s actually a thing. But you have to be a Basketball HOF in order to get your jersey retired at UConn. Very very high standard if true as I think the only jerseys retired on both sides are Ray Allen, Richard Hamilton, Rebecca Lobo, and Swin Cash.

I can’t find an article that says this standard directly.
You can add Sue Bird and Maya Moore who retired are in the hall of fame.

We had a player to come to Storrs and Mingo was his name-oh!!

They’ll probably get their jerseys retired shortly because this was recent.
RIP is not in the HOF
Hes in the collegiate HOF
You're probably correct.

But that's not really what's being talked about. His impact in BY lore is growing by the day.

He was incredibly impactful, but he wasn't THE reason they won ... in '23 for sure.
Nobody was THE reason in ‘23. It was a collective effort that he also had a big part in.

As others have pointed out, there were plenty of times he looked like the best player on the team.

Mingo was expected to take a lot of visits this recruitment, per Trilly from before UConn's visit. He hasn't given an update post, despite being asked. There's a small update on Storrs Central. I think both Mingo and UConn keep things tight. (Another reason why he's a good fit with Hurley and will probably end up committing here).

The best take in that video is that we wouldn't think twice about benching senior Demary for Mingo.

I know Mingo is a borderline top 5 recruit, but I think he's underrating how good a senior Demary should be. Think they'd start together anyways.
Castle and Newton played alongside each other. Absolutely no reason we wouldn't play both.

It seems Mingo's similarity to Castle was a big part of the sales' job. "This is how I will get you to the league."

The only way Mingo wouldn't start is if Demary, Ball, and Mullins were all back -- and make for one heck of a back court with Mingo and Furphy off the bench.

Some of his decision making has to be around guaranteed playing time. There is a scenario were all 3 could come back, or 2/3 could, which would mean he's fighting with Furphy & Ross to start in that last opening. Or maybe Furphy moves on elsewhere for that guarantee, which he'll likely 100% want in year 2.

A tier 2 in a sunny place like Miami that is willing to offer up a big bag and guaranteed starting could be tempting. Lot of moving parts at this point. Without being on the inside, knowing the kid & his priorities, impossible to predict this stuff. With recruiting, I've learned to just trust the staff, they're really good at it.

After reading this thread I was wondering if people think Mingo would’ve been a difference maker on last 2 national championships? I mean if he replaced Castle would we still have won and in the other if he was back up center instead of Donovan would we still have won? Head bang

Are we speculating on transfers for next season for a player who has yet to play one official second? Midseason BY form.

Point is a lot to play out. Anything can happen these days, evidenced by Adams pulling out at the 11th last year. No need to get tender when it’s 1000% hypothetical.

One of the best hypothetical posts made in this forum. Decisions that are life altering are rarely simple.

This board treating Furphy like a 5* recruit has been funny to say the least.

Him wanting to have 100% guarantee playing time in year 2 is hilarious.

The kid was a 3* recruit 99 ranked on 247 and 148 composite and Illinois was his only other offer. Why in the world would he not be patient when it comes to getting playing time??

Look like Mingo is visiting Alabama this weekend.
Yes I saw that, that's how I would do it, take mine back to back so I have a clear vision of which one I liked best, too much time in between can cloud things. I also believe this leads to a quicker decision.

First this was a hypothetical. But to answer your question simply, it’s because it’s the portal era and he’ll have plenty of options to start as a sophomore in other programs. Take a look at Nowell and Alexander.

I don’t think I’m riding bench for 2 years as an international player if I know I’ll have options to start.

Sounds like you know a lot more than Sam V and didn’t tune into FIBA.
