2026 Recruiting: Dylan Mingo breaks down visits; dives into upcoming officials & commitment timeline

I thought it was conclusive as in he stated it based on how you said it. Gotcha. Didn't know if I missed something.
It's a good question for those of us not following the recruitment of every single kid closely enough to parse out their many interviews. Assumed it was a long shot he'd come here but wasn't sure if the recent commitments had absolutely shut the door

O.K. I guess I wasn't clear. I just figured anyone opening this thread would have followed what has happened the last 2 weeks and read the posts in this thread. Mingo has not said UConn is out. But it's pretty clear from all the tea leaves that UConn pulled out of the race. As I said above, maybe if he's still available in the spring and UConn has a need they pick this back up. According to him he's not signing in the fall but wants to announce his choice shortly after the fall signing period is over.

It's ok HS, you don't have to be perfect all the time. I know you hold a high bar for yourself for detail orientation. To quote Billy Joel, I love you just the way you are, unconditionally.

In separate news, one-time UConn target Bryson Howard committed to Duke yesterday. He's currently the 12 ranked kid in the class per 247. They're also leading for #2 Jordan Smith. 7th ranked Anthony Thompson committed to Ohio St. So they are starting to come off the board.

Will be interesting to see how Scheyer plays it this year as this class doesn't have near the cache or instant impact, but will still likely want to get their 5 star minutes.

Prediction for this class is that a lot of these top kids are going to gravitate to where they are guaranteed minutes to position best for that watered down 2027 draft. I'm expecting a pretty even distribution, so much as going to second tier hoops schools (like OSU) if it guarantees time.

Does this article state he's out? Would be good to put this one to bed so we don't have to end up on his list during his announcement, which is always hysterical.

Will be funny if this kid ends up at Penn St.
Admittedly, you can’t predict what recruits will do, but it would be nuts if he chose Penn State, IMO.

His brother Kayden is just a freshman, who was ranked #34 by 247. If Kayden has a good season, he might be transferring to an ACC, Big East, or SEC school, so Dylan wouldn’t be playing alongside him. Plus, after his first 2 years at Penn State, the coach’s record is 32-32. Finally, the only current PSU player in the NBA who was a first round pick is a rookie, Yanic Konan Niederhausen (pick #30, Clippers).

So if Dylan Mingo wants to be NBA-ready, and he has some good advisors around him, it’s hard to imagine him thinking that Penn State is a good option.

In all seriousness I think Mingo is overrated. His writeup on 247 was kinda rough. Maybe just by size and physicality he can grow into an amazing combo guard, if his mechanics are not fluid and his turnover ratio is higher than others, it's weak class.

For those silly Yarders who still think UConn is recruiting Mingo this fall.

Five-Star PG Dylan Mingo: Baylor is the school coming up pretty frequently in conversations I have with sources. The Bears are definitely a team to watch. NC State is in there as well and Will Wade will host him for an official visit this weekend. He still plans to see Oklahoma and North Carolina, though both schools have some catching up to do to seriously enter the mix.

Here comes the overrated now that we won’t get him takes (although I agree)

Many have suggested that, in most years, he’s maybe a top 20 guy. Obviously he wants to be compensated like a top 5 though. Next.

Hearing talk that his brother who's a freshman at Penn State could be a one and done (or at most a two and done), and I thought he was the lesser talented of the two Mingos? Imagine the nickname potential, The Two A-Mingos, if they played together at Penn State?

Baylor, NC State or Penn State. Seems like a strange list for a top 10 ranked player. I get why Penn State because of his brother. Baylor for a NY kid is a little strange but I can buy the Edgecombe angle. NC State, not sure what the angle there is. And no Blue bloods heavily involved after UConn dropped out. So what is Mingo looking for? Assurances on playing time and leading the team? Top dollar?

5-star PG Dylan Mingo

Dylan Mingo has not announced his visits until the Wednesday before he takes them. So far, Washington, Miami, UConn, Alabama, Penn State, and Baylor have hosted him. He announced a visit to NC State for this weekend, and is currently looking to visit UNC next week(end). I am also told that the lines of communication are still open with him and Oklahoma. Speaking with sources around the recruitment, Baylor and Penn State both have draws for Mingo. Baylor is where former high school teammate VJ Edgecombe went, and Penn State is where his brother, Kayden Mingo, is currently a freshman. One source I spoke with recently told me they are watching this upcoming NC State visit closely. While a commitment date has not been announced, 2026’s top PG has said that he is not rushing it, but would like it to be done before his season starts.
Prediction: NC State / Baylor
Confidence Level: 35%
Biggest Threat: Penn State

Better programs aren't as desperate to open their wallets for this kid.
"This kid"? Are you saying there's something concerning with Mingo that we don't know about?

Biggest concerns are that he doesn’t care about winning in his one year, he cares primarily about a showcase stage & NIL. You could sniff this out with him for awhile now. I’m starting to think the only reason Hurley recruited him is because he was local and LIL. He feels like the anti Dan Hurley recruit.

Probably. But couldn't he have gotten a lot of money at better programs?

I honestly think that the top, top guys couldn't care less where they go nowadays. It's all about the immediate $$, because they will be lottery picks regardless. Be a big fish somewhere, put up #'s, go 21-11 and build a hype train, lose in the 2nd round, and then be a lottery pick. The whole system is broken. Castle was an anomaly—a guy who was willing to be a 4th option on a big team. I'm curious, in retrospect, if Castle would've committed here if he was being recruited with his final ranking and not his committed ranking. He verballed as the #27 recruit in the country. He entered school as #9.

This has nothing to do with Mingo, but I don't get this logic. If you're a guaranteed lottery pick why would you give a about the NIL money you make in your 8 months on campus? You're going to be signing a big ticket in a couple months. I would think NIL would be a much bigger draw for kids whose long-term earnings potential in the league is more uncertain.
