No search firm. Dannen has a list and started making calls this morning.

Dannen: my focus will be on sitting college head coaches. There may be elite assistants as well.

Dannen thinks that recruitment of the next coach will benefit from coaches’ believing that Tulane is now committed to Athletics. Calls out Fritz’s bowl win as a surprising part of the pitch — can say that it can be done now.

Dannen won’t interview coaches until they are done in the tournament. Would like to have a deal done by the Final Four

Why? This dude has been cashing sizeable checks well past his prime.
Because the guy is a good coach, a basketball scholar and a nice guy
Who cares about his finances
Tulane didn't give him support and not the best situation in which to recruit
He'll end up in the studio or NBA in an office capacity

Good for the league. No reason you can’t get players there. HS basketball seems to be bigger in the south than ever before. SEC went from UK and occasionally Florida or Arkansas to being the second best league in the country.

He had a terrible impact on their program - they lost every game they played from mid-December through the end of the season.

Just a disastrous hire. He had no college experience, he had been out of basketball for a half a decade and he hired a staff that either came from the NBA ranks or came from backgrounds that had little experience recruiting that area. A lot of self-inflicted injuries.

Tulane is still a tough sell.

Biggest thing they have going for them is location and a $1.3B endowment. They can open up the purse a bit if they want a good coach.
