How is this a top 5 team??

I know the easy answer is Duke hype, but come on. Even the most biased analyst cant possibly see that roster and think its the 5th best team.

Greyson Allen (of 3 good career games fame), Matt Jones (who?), Brandon Ingram (weighs 47 pounds), Amile Jefferson, and Marshall Plumlee is the starting lineup???!!!!!!

Their bench is three freshman: Thornton will probably be good, Luke Kennard who knows, and I'm not impressed by chubby slow Jeter.

Their only point guard is a freshman, and Allen and maybe Ingram are the only ones who can score. They're basically a bunch of typical Duke scrappy guys, but this time theyre not surrounded by any star players.

I know its one game against a good Ky team, but I dont see a whole lot of offensive talent on that roster.

I havent seen many games yet this year besides ours (there haven't been any), but looking at rosters on paper, I don't really see many that are better than ours. Certainly not Duke's

Allen and Ingram were completely ineffective tonight. jones is a typical catch and shoot 3 point specialist, and not much else. Jefferson is a solid garbage man who cleans up the glass and makes a living on put backs, and Plumlee is a plumlee. Really not impressed with them tonight although it was against a good UK team. They simply don't have a true PG, their defense is not particularly good, and their offense is not nearly good enough to bail them out like usual

They obviously shouldn't be, Ingram will be a stud but it's going to take a little time. They have talent but they are young and Allen is overrated from his big title game performance, I watched the whole game and still don't know who their point guard is. Kentucky is legit, that backcourt of Ulis, Murray and Briscoe is going to be a problem. Ulis is a great college point guard and Murray is a star.

Duke didn't impress. Was kind of split between our game and that one, but it seemed to me that Kentucky wants to run. Can they shoot the 3 at all?

Wish we played them in one of these early season tournaments, we would run them off the court.

I watched during timeouts and after our game was over. Greyson Allen looks clueless. He kept trying that driving for a dunk in the lane that seems to be his only offensive move and KY defense wasn't having any of that. Duke looks small and soft although it looked like Plumlee was abusing Skal in the paint quite a bit. Thornton looked ok. Chase Jeter looks like he has no idea what is going on and could use a haircut. Jefferson played pretty well. Kentucky looked better than I thought. Ulis and Murray were great and Briscoe looked pretty good.

Said it before. They have a talented bunch of freshmen but not a single one that collapses defenses like Okafor did last year. They may stay in the top ten, but I see them as more top 20ish right now.

Jefferson works his butt off, love his game. Allen is out of control, talented but overhyped and looks like K is giving him the keys for now. Young but talented, not sure it's the same maturity in this years youth to bring K back to the FF or even close, we'll see.

Kentucky? Murray and Ullis can. Don't think anyone else is that good from three. Briscoe is streaky (well from high school). Skal has a good shot but not from 3, that I have seen.

Allen is athletic and can shoot but he is only a straight line dribbler. He has zero moves and zero hesitation and really isn't a threat to pass on the drive. Against teams he is more athletic than he will score points because he can shoot and drive, not so against more athletic teams.

DAMN YOU Wisconsin, you had that game in your hands, you should have won that title, leaving Duke a loser again with #4 and no hope this year to win anything. Duke looks overrated, over matched and soft. Allen is going to be a product of the hype machine, it's easy to come out of nowhere and make an impact as the 6# man of your team, it's different when the target is on your back

Couldn't agree with this more. Allen is a great guy to have as a second or third option on a team but:

Uncharacteristically, Duke was missing a lot of FT's, at least when I had the game tuned in. KY seemed to be hitting every one.

Don't worry, the could be a .500 team and ESPN will make sure Duke is still in the Top 10. As for me, a game between Duke and Kentucky is hard to watch, anyway they both could have lost?

On the other hand, Kentucky looks quite impressive, especially so early in the season. They also have good guard play, which makes them more dangerous than a lineup where most of the star power is on the front line.

I know you said this in the first sentence, but it really is all duke hype (coach K hype).

Duke has been in the tournament every year since 2000 (nine #1 seeds, four #2 seeds, two #3 seeds, one #6 seed).
It's hard to bet against that track record and while Duke may not be a top 5 team in the nation today, the polls and coaches are betting on the potential and coaching to become one.

Remember, UK was the preseason #1 team the year after AD and MKG too. Robert Morris may have something to say about that...

At this point, I see Duke as no higher than a borderline top 25 team.

I think we need to pump the brakes a little bit if we're writing Duke off after one game against an exceptionally talented Kentucky team (I know its only a couple posters doing that, but you're just begging to have some of these posts thrown back in your face if your posting something like 'they have no hope of winning anything this season'.

That said, I also think UConn is better.

Duke is going to be just fine, the team might be a bit flawed but they still have a ton of talent and it's Duke.
