In the history of sports has there ever been a more over-hyped match up than Duke/Cuse this past season?
ESPN, over marketing its new toy, had the country believing that this match mattered. In retrospect, ESPN
should have had Mercer vs UConn women.

In this day and age, any one program can ride the back of an insanely talented freshman and win a national championship. One, as in a singular title. My point is that until a program wins multiple titles, they are irrelevant to me. Syracuse is just that......irrelevant. The only thing more humorous than their lack of success as an athletic program is the entitlement and delusion of their fan base. To them, going undefeated vs Lemoyne, Colgate, and Siena makes them elite. To them, going 6-5 in football has them competing vs the likes of Alabama. Its a complete joke.

It was a great ploy for ESPN. They own the rights to the ACC. If Syracuse and Duke becomes a big national thing, it's a big revenue boon for them.

I will give Syracuse this..... they have the Carrier Dome..... probably the most exciting on-campus venue in the country..... in terms of gathering a frenzied hoops crowd ready to be the underscore for a big matchup..... Syracuse hit the jackpot there.... building it in 1980 with the heavy sponsorship of the local air conditioning corporation. It was 100% paid for upon completion..... . no financing at all.... pretty incredible. As for their basketball program.... well it was properly referred to with the Lemoyne comment. How can you get good when you refuse to play any OOC away games. I don't think they play outside of New York State until after the new year each season.

I have to say that Quse has replaced Dook as my least favorite team in the ACC. They will be a non factor next year.

At least Dook had the balls to schedule a game with us- Quse is too bitter or ashamed of their role in forcing us into our crappy conference to acknowledge the rivalry between us was good for both teams. Scared and bitter is no way to go through life- (in particular when Quse was one of the teams that initiated the break up of the BE and our eventual landing in the AAC).

At this moment I have only one thing to say- SCOREBOARD!!!!!! Pe-Toowey!! I spit on them.

Syracuse needs a rival, they lost Uconn and only dook and UNC fit the bill.

Yeah ask a UNCheat or Puke fan how they see "rivalry" between their respective team and Cuse, now or potential, you'd probably get laughed at. Hell the only reason Cuse could still be a "rivalry" game for UConn is the shared extended history in the BE.

Duke and Cuse are nice little programs.....next steps for them are to get to Final Fours and win NCs on a regular basis. In other words, aspire to be like UCONN.

Come on guys, without Syracuse paving the way with these big regular season match ups, there's no way we win a national championship this year. We might as well give the trophy to Syracuse.

Duke has been to 3 times the number of final fours (15) than we have (5), more than twice the national title games (10/4) and has the same number of titles. I dislike Duke as much as the next guy but to lump them in with Cuse is disingenuous

Yes another couple of thoughts on the Orange.....

For whatever reason, no matter that they worked together on some cancer charity events, Boeheim and Calhoun didn't really see eye to eye..... I do not know the reason for the enmity.... jealousy perhaps.... but there was no love lost there.....

Another thought is that which Syracuse has always placed themselves, not Rutgers, St Johns, Seton Hall or UConn, as the team of New York City..... always citing the active involvement of x number of alumni there.... They always had a good showing at the Garden for Big East tournament, but not the equivalent of UConn

And to think that Kevin Ollie is now even in # of NCAA titles with JB who has been at the helm since 1975..... Go Kevin! Go Huskies!

couldnt have put this better. keep in mind if we hand tbeaten them in 99 and 04 in the finals and semi finals, they are in a whole differnet category. duke is duke. and cuse is cuse. not to be confused with one another base don accomplishments. that being said, aside from Duke's one and dones, both schools produce nba duds!

Who was the rookie of the year?
Yea, as hard a time as we've given Cuse for producing NBA duds, they have been turning out some better players recently. Waiters, MCW, and maybe Ennis (I think Grant will be a dud)...obviously Fab Melo is a dud but I think we all saw that one coming.

how many games did he play for duke? 10? and i said aside from the one and dones. i dont give much credit to a program when a kid wins rookie of th eyear and he played 10 games for them in his only season. that was my point.

Who was the rookie of the year?

Any of the 5 top rookies would have won rookie of the year on that D-League caliber 76ers, where MCW was able to play a ton of minutes and be the marquee player.

realized you were referrgin to MCW and not Kyrie. I still stand by my statement about their players though in general in the NBA

Well, you've demonstrated your level of NBA knowledge, so I won't even bother arguing with you.

i have to apologize because living in the new york region, i dont get much coverage on cleveland and philadelphia when they are trying to get as many lottery balls as possible. would love nothing less than arguing about cuse and dook rookies of the year on teams that wouldnt have won the American this past season.

Right. But who won it?

Who cares tho?? He could still easily be a dud in the league. MCW winning rookie of a year (terrible rookie class btw) on a team where he was basically the only NBA player does not prove, in the slightest, that Syracuse doesn't produce duds. Let's see if he is still relevant in the league in 5 years. Even so thats still only 2 notable NBA players from a "premier" program, sounds like producing duds to me.
