Duke Post Game Thread

In retrospect, Cayden made a mistake trying to pass the ball to the frontcourt. But if you look at the video of the Duke bench during that sequence, you see Scheyer pointing in that direction. So was the mistake Cayden's or was it Scheyer's?
If he puts a little more incline on that pass the games over. It wasn't a bad idea just bad execution. The game sped up for the freshmen and it caused him to rush and panic. I wouldn't blame Scheyer. Coaches can't make players execute. I supposed Scheyer could have called a time out just to give his players more time to think about how to approach that final possession. In hindsight that might have helped. Duke gifted us that opportunity but Mullins still had to hit the shot so I more credit UConn than blame Duke but definitely plenty praise and blame to go around. Just a remarkable sequence. I still can't believe what I saw.

It reminds me of the Giants helmet catch. Part one Eli escapes the rush (Demary deflects and Mullins steals the ball), Eli throws the ball downfield (Mullins throws the ball to Karaban and Karban throws it back to Mullins.) Tyree makes an incredible catch. Mullins makes an incredible shot.

Both plays had many moving parts, all of which had to happen for the play to succeed.

I think I finally believe it. We Won!!!! However, there still is one unanswered question I have. Did Hurley find his pin? I imagine it happened after the shot. Was it his lucky pin, and if he lost it before the shot, does he still wear it?

He cracked me up over that pin!!!

He's getting overshadowed because of the "shot". He is the only reason we didn't lose that game by double digits. He played so well, I'd call it Kemba level tourney impact. Easily the best of any UConn big in a tourney, move aside Emeka.

Was the difference in the game - I think we had like 13 points off TO's.
Francesca podcast “Reed was the best player on the floor by far and that’s including Boozer.” Can’t disagree.

Finally excised the ghost of the 1990 Laettner shot! We can all rest easy now!

What an incredible comeback! GO HUSKIES!
I thought winning the 99 championship exercised that ghost but I have to admit there was some poetic justice about this one being an Elite 8 game. But if anyone has ghosts at this point it is Duke. We have owned them. That is why I was glad when we drew Duke and not St. Johns. Was regretting that preference for about 39 minutes and 59.6 seconds last night and then not regretting it at all.

They gave up a 19 pt lead and were completely in the driver's seat.

They weren't in the driver seat once they started giving up the 19 point lead. UConn took over, it's not like Duke folded.

I've had the pleasure of bullying my own wife all morning long... 🤣 🤣 🤣

With 3 seconds left when Duke went up three she coldly says... "Well, I guess you gotta take the flag out of the front porch" (and she is the UConn alumnus)

I tell her "game is not over yet"...

And then we get one of the great finishes in history.

She'll hear it for the entire week! LOL

I don't know what's funnier; the guy that is convinced we have the devil on our side, or the fact that I read the other paragraph as "... if I had to pick my nose..." and I thought for a brief second that Boeheim was back...
Tha is some FUNNY s-h-i-t.

Speaking of flags... we had a lot of wind around here in Feb/Mar, so my flag looks like it's been through Gettysburg. My birthday is this week and I asked for a new flag.

So the question is, do I keep the ratty old one flying, which is at this point an embarrassment to our relatively well-heeled neighbors, or do I switch it out to a beautiful new one in time for Friday's game?

Water under the bridge but now I can complain about it, what the refs allowed Sarr to do on defense against Karaban last night was absurd (and he finished with ONE foul). He was basically bear hugging Karaban around every screen. When Karaban was able to break free, Sarr would grab one of his arms and just pull him to slow AK down. It was so blatant so often.

It stays up. You know this.

It isn't so much their true fans that will rip him, it is the gamblers that will blame him for losing their money.
I don't mean the on campus students & staff. They will support him. But it's such a small world with social media and it's hard not to hear/see all of it. Some were already posting some pretty disgusting things.

I've no idea why Scheyer wanted the ball pushed up court, but he did and his team tried.
This is a really good point I hadn't considered or heard raised. Everyone is talking about Boozer's pass, but if Scheyer doesn't plant two big guys deep then he doesn't even have that pass to make
