Duke Post Game Thread

Anyone notice Luke Murray played hype man to a more chill Dan Hurley today? Murray was really giving it to the refs like I've never seen before.

Great call @upstater someone in my watch party called it out too and I'm finding obvious instances of it as I rewind the tape at home for the 100th time.

I love everything about it and in my mind it's part evil plan, part keeping Dan from getting T'd up, and part Coach Hurley giving Luke a taste of driving the bus. That last point might be a stretch in such an important game but we've all got massive superjohns right now so anything's possible.

He did.

Everything that happened there was brilliant. I've no idea why Scheyer wanted the ball pushed up court, but he did and his team tried. Silas's defense, Braylon grabbing it and getting it to Alex and then both of them being absolutely dead calm in the next two seconds. Braylon likely expects Alex to shoot but he still steps in to be available. Alex seeing Boozer and realizing that any shot will be heavily contested passes it back out.

Game was as slow for them there as it might have been in the opening minute.

I agree with Scheyer on burning the clock with passing. If we had gotten the quick foul, there would still be 8+ seconds left. He also risks a tie up by having a guard hold the ball especially against the baseline. UConn had the possession arrow. Those first two passes burned a lot of time. If Boozer got that ball over Demary, the game would have been over, Demary just made a great play..

Epic Tournament run by Tarris- Playing like a pro. Enjoy the W and get some rest Big Fella. Got a business trip to Indy.

Silas/AK with some huge threes during the comeback. Can't say enough about our two-headed PG. Silas/Malachi.. Taking care of the ball and getting ball to the shooters in their spots. And hustle plays on D.

Murphys Cromwell (formerly Rookies where myself and a few BYers started this championship journey in 1999):

Great set up by the cameraman perfection!
Nice! The New Mexico round of 32 game was my first meet up with ‘yarders there. What a blast. mau was very animated showing box out moves and such. Their star, Long scored one point total in a UConn route.

Can the damage that Uconn has done to Duke over the past however many years be quantified?

Can misery be measured?
I might be willing to go back to grad school at 63 y.o. to ponder this... at UConn of course.

Duke didn't made the FF in 2000 so AK has the more FF then Battier.

I got it from ChatGPT:

The last prominent player to reach at least three Final Fours was Shane Battier, who made them in:
• 1999
• 2000
• 2001 (won the title)

Them breaking into a UConn Huskies cheer is an all timer
Funny how we react to different things- many posters mentioned tearing up right at the moment of Mullin's kill-shot. I'll confess this one got me. In this mercenary age of college sports these scenes make the love of the institution and its culture palpable. Oh wait it was just dust in my eye...

Duke Fan here.

Actually born and raised in Scotland and GM came to US mid 90s when I worked at Duke. I got into basketball during that period. I remember Jim Calhoun's teams and was also impressed and, frankly, fond of his style. Reminded me of coaches from my youth; old grizzly "barstools". Loved it.

Of course, y'all broke my heart in 1999. Nonetheless I was always fond of UConn and, if Duke hadn't employed me and been my "Ellis Island", UConn felt like home to me.

That continued with Hurley. I'm devastated my last nights loss. Broke my heart again, but that's sports. Now I'm all in on UConn. I hope and want you guys to win it all.

All the best from a crying Scottish Duke fan.

I must admit sometimes I find Danny’s press conferences a bit tiresome during the season, especially after a loss . It’s a broken record. Praise the other team and coach and then talk about championship mentality and culture. Well, yesterday personified exactly what he means. The will to win, the never quit mentality, the overall belief that they are never out is unique to this program. It’s what he means in all those pressers during the year. It’s a championship culture.
