1 - it is not a dumb question, it is a question posed to bring the discussion back on point.

2 - obviously you refuse to answer.
One guy (Newton) was highly successful at a lower level program, was an all-league performer and moved up to the highest level in the college game. He had a triple double in his third game at UConn. The other guy (Evers) never saw the field starting out at the highest level in the college game then moving down where he never saw the field and then moving down again to the lowest level of fbs.

I didn't love Mora's statement (he should not have brought it up in the presser), but I agreed with Diaz' instructions to his team. If you slide there, you guarantee a win. If you score, there's a small chance the other team can get the ball back, score, recover an onside kick, and score again.
I have to think zls is being sarcastic. I was surprised up front thinking that scoring was better but i forgot that at that point you just seal the win

I just don't get how some people don't think an experienced FCS QB can perform at the FBS level. And, Fagnano's stats at UConn show he is a capable QB and has played against NC State and Maryland. Look at Matt Sluka at UNLV. Transferred from FCS Holy Cross to FBS UNLV and UNLV is 3-0 with wins at Houston, at Kansas, and an FCS at home.

Right now, Fagnano is the better QB as he is more experienced and he sits in the pocket. Evers is inexperienced and tends to roll out of the pocket which decreases his passing accuracy. I'm sure Evers looks really good in practice as he is physically talented, but he needs to perform better during games and improve his feel for the game. I have to believe that the coaches think he will improve which is why he is starting.
Sure FCS qbs can play at the FBS level. Just like they can play in the NFL. the problem is that it is a minority who can make that jump. Stuka is a grad student. His 2 worst passing games were against Army and BC though in both he did a lot with his legs. I think a case could be made that he was a better quarterback than Fagnano, too

I agree with what Diaz did in that the game is over, but Mora saying that is so soft.

Jim, you’re glad he did it because the score looks better. We aren’t stupid.

Give it a rest. Mora's statement was just a public recognition of Diaz exhibiting good sportsmanship. Find something else to be outraged about.

I disagree. It takes self confidence to compliment the opposition after a loss. It is also good modeling for his players.
life is bigger than football. JM is a gentleman and knows how to apporach relationships. the only thing worse than being a loser (which we've been for a while) is a sore loser. Stand tall, take it on the chin, and represent the husky with pride. Respect to JM.

EDIT - i was just thinking - JM should always be networking with opposing P4 coaches as well, as perhaps those relationships can assist us in conference realignment? nothing helps more than winning, but ultimately JM is the face of our brand (football, that is) and this is ultimately a people business, W/L's aside. I would say it always benefits us to be utmost professional in front of the mic and at the 50 yard line post-game, no matter the result.

Always better to win than lose, but it really doesn't matter in this case. Neither team is good. Duke is probably the worst 3-0 team in the country. Watching other games on Saturday, this game looked different, and not in a good way. Starting to come around to the stick to basketball crowd if this is what we can expect Mora to come up with on Saturdays.

Old Guy walking down memory lane. Michign wins by 3 2913 UC up late in the game. I can't remember the coach but I think he got fired. would do cartwheels today if we lost to Michigan 24......21. Memory lane might make a good thread for some to post their favorite game.

There must be a soccer player on campus who can make 45 yard field goals...If not recruit a Rugby player from Australia who can. Unacceptable that UC does not have someone they can rely on to kick a FG. It is a crucial part of FB.
Its hard to find.

Instead of bemoaning a close game, maybe we should be celebrating UConn is on the path to returning to the quality of teams we saw a dozen years ago. It's likely the Huskies will make a bowl game this season
A bowl game…with an independent schedule that is downright putrid. I’m sorry, but I’m not, the let’s win some games and get to a bowl days are gone. Fix the football program and begin to build with that in mind or continue to get looked upon as a replacement player for the Big 12 Big 10 SEC and ACC. They will continue to toy with Uconn.

Moral victories will not get them a Conference Invitation!

What does that mean?
We are not a good football team. And if to become a mediocre football team requires we sacrifice an elite basketball program, I'm not on board with that.

Excellent post.

Any comment on some of our DBs? I thought 1 of them was a turnstile. Correctable?
mmm. not really. I really don't know a lot about the 3-3-5, but Moore and Pancol looked like tough assignments and the longer the QB has to sit in the pocket, the worse it's going to be for the secondary. I was expecting them to get tore up like in the Maryland game, and overall I think the defense and the secondary held their own pretty well except for the few big hitters. The last TD I was a little frustrated, as if Brinson had just turned his head or kept eyes on the backfield, he had an easy pick.. but I also understand that's not how players are taught to cover. I think if we can get a better pass rush, the pass coverage will improve, because if there is a timer on the QB, they've got to get rid of the ball and gives the secondary the opportunity to jump routes and make plays.

Everyone plays coverage like the QB's in college are putting all of their throws on dimes and it just seems like on so many throws these days, that DB's have a play on them, if they'd just turn their head and look.

Exactly. This is why arguing Evers or Fagnano is useless in the overall scope of Uconn Football. There are no wins that will by themselves get Uconn an Invite. The relevance within football circles as an intriguing and contributing member does not currently exist where Uconn is being viewed, football-wise.

UConn football has to re-earn respect and it has to do it one game at a time. If the past 10 years, UConn had been 2-10, 6-7, 3-9, 3-9, 1-11, 2-10, no football due to COVID, 1-11, 6-7, and 3-9. Does that show any commitment to football? Of course not and that perception needs to change.

We still have a better record the FSU and the same record as Houston. So season is already a success
My wife went to FSU. I have to say I've enjoyed how badly they are sucking right now. Do yourself a favor and never go to a game in Tallahassee. All the chanting and chopping will have you wanting to kill yourself before the end of the first quarter. The most annoying game experience ever.

Evers looked a good amount better than Maryland. I give zero credit for anything that happened against Merrimack. Let him start against FAU and then decide.

I agree. He's our NIL boy wonder. You have to let him go as long as he improves game over game.

What? It’s awesome. The only thing to rival it is the Chiefs. The chant is awesome. Coolest thing I’ve heard in a stadium. It’s a rush and I’m not a fan.
