IF we are victorious tonight against the Connecticut Q, what is your preference for our sweet 16 match-up?

You mean throw their game against Georgia? I don't know what other "steps" they could take at this point.

I too would like to see "Z vs. Duke", and see her dominate the paint against their post players. Not sure that JPM would like to see that, however.
 
Love to see a matchup vs JPM, and so far the vaunted SEC has looked pretty mediocre, except for MS St. I'm figuring that the Blue Devils eke out a win in Athens and then the Dukies get walloped by the Huskies with Z scoring 50.
 
Without hesitation... Georgia! UConn will demonstrate conclusively that generally the SEC is overrated an specifically that Georgia should never, ever have been a #4 seed. It was preposterous that 5 SEC teams were seeded #4 or better. Let's look at the results so far. Georgia barely survives on their home court against an undersized Mercer. LSU loses to CMU. Texas A&M escapes, with an assist from the officials, on their home court against DePaul. South Carolina, on their home floor, squeezes past both NC A&T and Virginia in totally unimpressive fashion. Only Mississippi St. has looked like a real contender, but even so, Nicholls had only 1 player over 6'. Even St. Francis had 5 players over 6'. It's also interesting that all 3 ratings outfits, Massey, Sagarin and RPIRatings had St. Francis substantially higher than Nicholls., although, to be fair, once you start getting in the 100's/200's it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference

If Duke wins, they can forfeit their game against UConn.
They can take a slow coach to Albany from Durham and get snowed under.
I do not have the key to JPM's brain.

They don't have to throw it the game against Georgia. Georgia is the higher seed and may win it.

Tennessee may have been overrated, but the conference isn't. Regardless if games were close or not, they'll likely have 4 teams in the Sweet 16. ACC should have 5, Pac 12 with 3, Big 12 with 2, AAC and Big Ten with 1.

Don't really care. We haven't played either for awhile (I enjoy when UCONN plays new teams - or at least ones they haven't played in awhile). However with more Duke fans on board here, they might make for more interesting banter here. Than of course the Steven's connection.

I have to respectfully disagree on the SEC. I won't rub salt in the wound relative to TN, other than to say that I felt OSU is a better team. Mizzou lost to a mid-major with no one on the team over 6'. LSU also lost to a mid-major. TXA&M had to engineer a furious comeback to win by 1 pt over another mid-major. GA barely got by yet another mid-major at home by 5 pts. We'll see how the Bulldogs do tonight vs Duke. SC has looked like anything but a defending national championship team with lackluster wins over NCA&T & UVA. So far, only MS St looks like a strong team, as far as the SEC is concerned.

Top to bottom the SEC may be the most balanced conference, but the conference is overrated. The only reason they're may get 4 teams in the sweet 16 is because the committee over-seeded the SEC. Every single team in the tournament seeded #4 or better (playing on home court) handily won their 1st round games, except the SEC teams. Only Tennessee and Miss. St. managed good 1st round wins. Every single team in the tournament that was seeded #4 or better that's played their 2nd round game has won handily, but none of the SEC teams that have so far played in the 2nd round have won easily and and 1 lost.

Huh...? My math might be a little off but....Wouldn't Duke beating Georgia ( 5 beating 4) demonstrate more conclusively that SEC was overrated than UCONN beating Georgia (1 beating 5)?

I'm actually delighted with the wins of teams like FGC, CMU, Quinnipiac, Creighton & Buffalo. But the discussion was about the strength of the SEC, a P5 conference that many pundits rate as the best in WBB. So far, the SEC appears to be struggling mightily in their matchups with various mid-major schools.

No. Georgia is playing at home and quite honestly, they shouldn't be, but this wasn't a prediction or even an assessment. I just want to see UConn destroy an SEC team.
 
I picked three of the lower seeds didn’t care what conference they came from
 
I was planning a more in-depth write up on this later, but the RPI is inherently biased toward the SEC and ACC because they only play 16 conference games. I don't know if this was the intent behind the reduced schedules, but it works. It provides a slight boost, and with the small margins in the middle of the RPI, it can move teams up a seed line or 2. Massey has the SEC 4th, and Sagarin 5th. I believe this is an accurate assessment.

Yes... I think that last sentence and desire might be warping your thinking just a bit. Georgia playing at home makes them a bigger favorite. UCONN beating Georgia is an expected outcome, Duke beating Georgia is not.

I think you miscalculated a bit. If today goes chalk, the PAC12 will have 4 in the Sweet 16, not 3 (Oregon St. and Oregon are already in, and UCLA and Stanford are favored). The ACC only gets 5 in the S16 if Duke beats Georgia tonight (Louisville, Notre Dame, NC State, Florida State, Duke). If that happens, SEC has only 3 (Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and NOT Georgia). Bolded teams already punched their S16 tickets.

Doesn't the Duke/Georgia winner present us with a WIN/WIN fulcrum? I mean if Duke wins, we get JPM vs. Geno with Z getting a change to play against her old mates. While if Georgia wins we get Lobo vs. Landers on National TV discussing the game-which I am sure Lobo will make some kind of bet proposal. I, personally want the JPM vs. Geno aspect as I think it will be great theatre, not that I think JPM will actually say anything, on contraire, I think she continues her best behavior and says all the right things, just the presser afterward with Z and Geno will be entertaining. Plus we get our colleague @triaddukefan to offer their perspective. Do we even have any Bulldog of the Georgia kind on this forum?
