glad the dyed blond turtle was escorted off the court. What a poser. Did anyone else catch her pregame sillyness and in game antics. She is a complete mess as a head coach and leader. Kara lawson just nailed it, she torpedoed her own team, the lead went from 9 to 13 and Duke got possession with 3:50 to play. Bad job on all fronts Miss Brenda. Double technical with 3:50 to play on a marginal call.

Not pretty..... but a win over a hated rival that pretty much cements the regular season title and the #1 seed in Greensboro... I'll take it

Huh? There is no regional in Greensboro, and I don't see how this win guarantees Duke a 1 seed anywhere.

Are you talking about the acc tourney? If so, ignore the above.

Yep.... So important to get the #1 Seed for the ACC tourney... A friday game @3pm and the 1pm game on Saturday.... vs a 6pm Friday night and 3:30 Sat afternoon game. With Maryland's short bench... not sure if they would have anything left in the tank if they advanced to Sunday's Title game. Though that #1 seed didnt help us any last year

?... It happened during a time-out, in the first half Frese was 8-10 feet on the court without a T

Jim Calhoun used to be on the court all the time, and he was never called.

It's up to the refs to warn the coach, and then T.

It's interesting that it was a point of emphasis a few years back under Mary Struckhoff. Some coaches felt like other coaches were getting away with murder because of who they were.

Brenda is probably on a short leash. She has always walked out into the court. I think she loses track of where she is.

What's her career average in steals?

This Clemson player, for example,
never saw her coming . . .

Thomas is such a great athlete...Brenda has tapped into about 30% of the young woman's potential...what a shame.

My thoughts exactly...Alyssa is as frustrated as they come because she just hasn't learned the technique to go along with her athleticism...she's a power rusher that just can't get around a savvy player...

Well this game was telling in many ways for both teams! Neither are close to competing regularly against the top 4. Both play sporadic defense. Both struggle to score when not running in transition and are forced to run a half court set. Chelsey gray is a joy to watch but is a pretty one dimensional player when forced to play D or run a half court set against a quality defense .See her stats against Uconn over her career and it becomes glaringly obvious she can be taken out of her game. The terps have not played effective defense for most of freses rein at Maryland and they were roundly spanked by Duke. When they were a contender for the N C they had the fire power to go toe to toe with almost anyone and did. Not so much now.

I agree about Thomas. She so needs to be surrounded by better players. But in fairness, they lost key players to ACL tears. I'm surprised she doesn't show more frustration out there with dropped and bad passes.

To be fair, she was. Hawkins is an amazing talent. The loss of MIncy is particularly devastating. There is talent on Maryland's roster; most of it is in street clothes.

Its not in the rules to warn coaches before a tech warnings are done out of courtesy.

Actually, I believe it IS in the rules. For instance, from Ohio (High School):
BASKETBALL OFFICIALS-COACHES-SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
COACHING BOX
In an effort to increase sporting conduct by basketball coaches this year, the OHSAA Board of Control adopted a new bench (Coaching Box) rule which created a 14' box. By now all schools - junior and senior high - should have marked the 14' box with tape or permanent markings.

Team benches shall be located on the scoring table side of the floor. The Coaching box is bounded by the sideline, the team bench, a line at the end of the bench nearest the scorer's table and another line 14' measured back toward the end line. Officials and Head Coaches have been instructed that failure to have a coaching box marked will create a situation where NO coach may stand during the game. School administrators and game site hosts are responsible for complying with this floor marking rule.

COACHING BEHAVIOR
Head Coaches and only Head Coaches are permitted to stand and coach. The Head Coach must remain in the coaching box. When the Head Coach is out of the box and "just coaching" the coaching box rule will be enforced as follows: First Offense - warning and return to box; Next Offense - technical foul.

b. Coaching box. Failure to comply with the rule results in a
distinct advantage that is not within the spirit and intent of the
rules. The rule is clear and concise. The head coach or any other
bench personnel may not be outside the prescribed coaching box
except when otherwise permitted by rule. After a warning, for
the first violation, a technical foul should be assessed for any
subsequent infr

Brenda coming out on the court had nothing to do with the ejection. Here is the Washington Post's account of the ejection.

With just less than four minutes to play and fifth-ranked Duke on a
two-on-one fast break, Alyssa Thomas was running back on defense for the
No. 7 Maryland women’s basketball team Monday night when Blue Devils
guard Chelsea Gray moved in front of the junior forward to shield her
from the play.

That tactic brought Terrapins Coach Brenda Frese off the bench in
outrage, and she voiced her displeasure to officials emphatically
heading into a stoppage in play with Maryland trailing, 59-50, following
Gray’s layup. The exchange led to a technical foul that meant Duke
would be shooting a pair of free throws immediately after the break.

But moments later during the timeout, referee Denise Brooks issued a second technical to the Maryland bench, and for the first time in her career, Frese was ejected, leaving associate head coach Tina Langley to take over on the way to a 71-56 loss at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Here is the intentional block that Gray threw into Thomas that got Brenda so upset and ejected. With 4 players on the bench with injuries, who can blame a coach for getting upset about Gray's actions.

Frese was acting hysterically the whole game, so don't tell us that Frese being on the court had nothing to do with the ejection. The officials were extremely tolerant of her behavior , and finally had enough. The notion Brenda was trying to protect her players is hysterical, she is always going crazy over every close call.

Incongruous, I know, but she does take low-hanging fruit.
That is too funny. Did you catch her rant before the game. She encouraged Maryland to run, run, run. Why, why, why?

Were you watching the game at all? Brenda was complaining about the same Duke's tactics and no call from the get go. this was a build up from the beginning of the game. This is Duke's MO, they are notorious for this type of play.

Not as notorious as Maryland. Go back and watch the hatchet job their players did to UCONN earlier this year. To equate the way they play to the way Duke play is a joke. I won't go so far as to call Maryland a dirty team, but they were way more hack and grab vs. UCONN than Duke was. So have you watched the games at all? Because we watched UCONN vs. Duke and UCONN vs. Maryland.

Its not a foul to run in front of someone on the break and slow down. She has no argument. it happens in many fast breaks especially for Uconn.
