oof, isnt the Cavs a dumpster fire right now? Probably not the place i'd want to go to.

Sucks for Andre. Looks like no contender wanted to take on his salary.

.-.
Great. Another player Kevin Love can fire a pass too.

He’s just gonna leave in 2 months. I’d assume he doesn’t get another max but he will get a big contract from (hopefully) a contender.

What's more interesting is whether this means that they have a trade to move Tristan Thompson.

That's as close to free as exists in the basketball world.

Salary to match and the swap rights to the worse of 2 2nd round picks.

Feel bad for Andre, he's clearly upset by this.

The Cavs are hopelessly bad. I guess this means they are bringing Tristan Thompson off the bench now? Between him, AD, Love, Larry Nance, and Zizic, they have way too many big men.

There was really no reason to trade for him if they didn’t trade away Thompson. Very odd, they’re the same player except Andre does everything better.

Drummond is $28m in useful center minutes/cap relief next deadline to another team. Smart move by the Cavs. Only gave up a second and are tanking for 3+ years anyhow.

Celts could have used him.

He's not really a Brad Stevens big. Unfortunately they also would have had to move a core player in order to fit him under the cap. I do think Boston was/is looking at Thompson though.

NBA people are just not high on Drummond at all, even when he goes for 20 and 20. If you watch his games, he is often maddening and "makes losing plays" in Hurley terms. However, he has never played with a good point guard. The best pg he's played with may be Pistons Derrick Rose on a minute limit.

He's a FA after this year. They won't have him next year

A center that isn't in the top 150 of defensive win share and only shoots 53% from the field despite having no offensive ability when hes more than 4 feet from the basket? Don't want that anywhere near my team. Kanter (the last time I checked) has much better per 48 numbers for a fraction of the cost.

The problem is the bigs aren't valued anymore. It is all pick and roll and 3 point shooting. He isn't a great outsider nor a good free throw shooter. He is really good and can be part of a winning team with the right parts.

Kanter wasn't exactly an analytics darling until recently. You don't think you're being a bit dismissive of someone who'd undoubtedly be adding a different dimension to the team? I can understand Boston not wanting to part with their other guys, but you make him sound like the Coronavirus when losing is all he's known.

You're technically correct, but he's opting out
If he opts out he'll lose $15 million or so. Dude is definitely going to opt in and try to prove his worth on the court, then hit free agency (with everyone else) in 2021.

I'm dying for him to end up on a team with a good PG that runs a spread pick-and-roll.
